I would love to see a comparison between this and Sigma 30mm f1.4

That is an excellent suggestion! For the money and auto focus convince I would certainly recommend the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens. I have used that lens for years to record my videos until I recently upgraded to the A7C and Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 lens. The Sigma lens performs awesome and it's very affordable. It does not have the same depth of field control, punchy colors/ contrast, lens flare, and focus breathing control though. It also does not have the incredible build quality the Laowa offers. Sharpness is very similar though on the Sigma lens.

Really nice video from an interesting lens, thanks! Btw. What I would really like to see from Venus Optics is a more compact, lightweight Laowa mirrorless 2x 100mm f/4 FF lens with weather sealing!

I mean when doing macro (handheld, with flash) with 100mm FF lens I never use faster than f/5,6 aperture (with 2:1 or less). So there's nothing to loose by having f/4 lens instead of f/2,8. And more compact size helps in handling with one hand (and weather sealing when it rains).

Yes, as far as sensor size light gathering goes you are correct thank you Hagen :)

But can you really say "only" when there isn't any faster options available on the market? Or is there?

I don't have it anymore, but I'm getting the Laowa 15mm f/2 and will certainly try some astro with that ;) Thank you for the kind words and all the best, Jay

looks like the sony version sharper than the fujifilm one.

I couldn't say I never used the Fuji version, but I would be a bit surprised if the lens optics were much different though honestly.

Hi Jay, what budget lens would you recommend for real estate video shoot with Sony a6600

I've shot a ton of RE videos on a 6300 and the Samyang/Rokinon12mm f/2
@Jason_Hermann

Something wide and fast for sure. The Samyang/ Rokinon 12mm f/2 is a very affordable manual focus lens option. I would also consider the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 Lens (amzn.to/2SniCyH), although that might not be wide enough. Another super wide option would be the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens (amzn.to/2TeNZft)

@@Jason_Hermann with the sigma 16mm is that going to stay 16mm on the a6600 or do I need to do a 1.5x?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 3 жыл бұрын
1.5x so about 24mm effective...

Are the rectangular bokeh balls at 0.95 due to lens hood? Do they become circular without the hood?
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, but now that you mention it, it's possible I suppose Adrian. I never saw that phenomenon with any other sample photos though, so I don't think the lens hood was the issue in that case.

I also suspected the square lens hood to be the cause. Have u tried it again without the lens hood? Btw nice review and photos. What picture profile are you using? The color is so nice
