I've gained some confidence with my scratch building over the past year. Decided to have a go at building something a bit more ambitious. I've planned to have some buildings like this on the layout for a long time.
It took a about 70 hours or so but I'm pleased with the results for my first attempt at a building of this size. In future I'll add some much needed detail to the building and perhaps add some interior details.
The Warley Model Railway Show is being held as a virtual event over the weekend 28/29 November. You can find more info on their KZfaq channel, link below.

"Quite pleased with how it turned out" - what an understatement it is incredible the colour of the doors is exactly what I remember from a block of flats I use to go to in Gravesend in the 1980's - fantastic well done.

I love the fact that there is more love and attention to detail going into your model flats than any town council ever put into building the real thing. Another great video as always.

House by a railway line, with plenty decent locos rolling by. I think if you advertised these flats in Rail Enthusiast (the Railway Magazine of that time period) the take up would've been massive.

You can get cheap effect LEDs, which already has a built in effect like candles or slow RGB changes or blinking. Just power and a current limiting resistor you need and you can imitate TVs in the tiny flats. In my country in the 80s, there was B/W televisions mostly, so the candle effect can be OK.

Put a cool white LED in series with the flickering LED for a nice TV effect. (Adjust brightness with the resistor and hide or paint the yellow LED.)

Great effort! For your information, floor to floor heights are usually about 2600mm in residential buildings. Floor to ceiling is usually 2300mm. The 2000mm dimension is the minimum height under beams etc. I hope that helps. Keep on doing what you’re doing. It’s amazing.

That's fantastic. As I've said before, I think the point which marks a really great layout, is - can I imagine myself being or working there - the answer is YES. Its interesting how you have reflected the way environments change in real life. And as you say, the flats will show the signs of people's homes, with individual points like curtains aeriels, dishes etc. Have you thought of being a Town Planner in the North - PLEASE! haha. BTW to those who clicked dislike , just because they can - your appointment card arrived.

Reminds me of Park Hill flats at Sheffield I used to go out with someone who lived their in the 1990s. The layout of Park Hill flats themselves were spacious the balcony area was the kitchen some of the balconies were enclosed with clear plastic done by the tenants . The reason was higher up you were the stronger the wind which used to bang the doors open and shut in the flat also if they had any children . The base of the flats used to have pubs (Park Hill had four) and service areas also had an nursery and play area and the rent office . Some of the tenants used to keep pigeons for racing on their balconies.

I think that building sums up nicely the era into which it belongs and the ethos behind high rise social housing at the time. It will be interesting to see how you develop its appearance. A development that worked will have mellowed. A development that failed would look a mess. Overall, what a really urban setting you have created. I grew up in an area of terraced houses, high rise buildings and railway infrastructure, there was even a scrapyard around the viaduct abutment! Felt strangely at home watching this! Well done indeed. Regards Stephen.

Looking great! Having grown up in London in the 80s and lived there until the early 2000s, this does look reminiscent, though definitely not for council tenants! Brickwork would never have been seen on council owned ones that I recall, but private builds certainly. Gives the opportunity of doing another dingy grimy 60s concrete building as the local eyesore though!

Don't put yourself down, its evident as to all the work thats gone into already. I drove trains for network southeast in the 1990s and went past buildings like this all the time. Peabody buildings was one that i recall. Also drove epb s 51s, 57s, and 63s. My main gripe with these models is the lack of passengers actually on trains and ghost trains with no drivers or guards.

That's a clever bit of kit Richard and, the more you learn about it, the more time it will save you. A scratchbuild of this size would have been an even more daunting prospect without some mechanical help. Being so big, there should be loads of opportunities for super-detailing, lightning conductors, aircraft warning beacons, topless sunbathers(it is summertime😁). Can you sharpen the cutter, or just replace it? How long does a blade last? Another thing that should improve with use: you should end up with a library of "bits", pretty much ready to print. The more things you build, the more components you'll have on file, ready to use on something else - maybe designed by the same council architect. 👌👍😁 It's looking great, should be fantastic when it's finished, and completely unique to Everard Jct. Cheers for now, Dougie.

I was living 18 floors up in a 20-storey council block above Leyton Orient football ground in the late 1980s. Rest assured that the panels didn't meet up properly on that either. Some of the gaps were quite alarming! Ouch. Your version looks pretty authentic to me, but rather better built. Nice size flats though, the real ones that is. Thanks goodness they were knocked down in the 90s and the inhabitants rehoused in low rise terraces on the same site.
