Any time you mess with concrete or demo material it will beat the hell out of equipment no matter how careful you are.

When we torn down our hog barns we used sledge hammers to break up the concrete. Younger then.

A hoe ram/jack hammer attachment on a skid steer might be a quicker, less fuel consuming option for you Chris, even if you have to rent one. its a shame its such a pain to move your dragline but this is actually a perfect job for the old machine. it could drop the ball all day with minimum wear on the machine while just sipping on the diesel

That ball is a lot more effective than last time when you had to keep picking up pieces and dropping them on bigger pieces.

Now Chris sees why so many machines are scratched/dented to hell. He's in a wide open field in the first bit of concrete and he's got a scratch. Imagine if you're working congested industrial sites all the time...

You may not see pigs, but the flies are set for life! I was in the masonry business and we did a big full veneer mansion and fireplaces with bricks out of a slaughter house. It was a horrible smell, but the people swore they could get the smell out. We washed the brick when we were done with muratic acid and it still stunk. Not sure how they fared.

Chris- you should be concerned about the potential for damage on your ring gear and the additional wear on it by abruptly stopping your rotation when the wrecking ball makes contact with the concrete. That will cause huge stresses on the gear's teeth and damage them and the drive pinion. It would be less taxing on the equipment if you didn't rotate the boom with the wrecking ball and simply raised and lowered your boom to demolish the concrete. I've learned this from experience.
