Brian is absolutely correct on the Chisel stock. Unfortunately there was a batch of about 30 stocks that went out after a fitment adjustment that did not include the machined chamfer on the bottom of the front tang. It has been corrected on current production and we are taking care of everyone that received one of those stocks.

I love the new Marlin 1895 SBL and hope to have one in my collection here in the near future. I think it is absolutely perfect the way it comes from the factory and would not change a thing. However if the shooter were to add an optic the FORM stock would make a nice addition with the adjustable wood stock. Great video by the way!!

I have several first quarter, gen 1 Rugers and only had an issue with fit and finish on one in 2005. They corrected it without issue or delay and sent some freebies for my trouble. Seems the one issue you had here is with the stock and not the firearm. This one is is still on my want list. Thanks for your reports, I like what I'm seeing. Smooth!

Ruger seems to have fixed a lot of the various issues with the 1895. It's nice that all the aftermarket parts fit... now we wait for them to be widely available and hopefully the return of the dark series.

I managed to snag one a few weeks ago at a local gun shop. I paid more than I'm willing to admit but it will be a long time before these are easily obtainable. I read that ruger is only making a limited amount this year, probably so they can focus on other models as well. I honestly didn't expect to see one in person for at least a year or more so I couldn't bring myself to pass it up. My only real complaint with it is that the ghost ring it comes with is rather large but you can get different sizes from XS for less than $15. But I guess it's meant to be a "guide gun" so it makes sense to use a larger aperture for close range.

I have one on order, Lord only knows when I’ll get it. I will probably put a Skinner peep sight on it. My friend and fellow Montanan will tell me if I’ll need a different front sight as well. That’s what I had to do with one of my Henrys. I’ll just keep the original laminated stock though I enjoyed seeing what options are available. Great video, thanks.

Brian, I put the Ranger Point Modular butt stock on my Remlin 336Y and it was a perfect fit no gaps at all. Was a little tight getting on but no persuading needed. Enjoy your videos.

I believe the best Marlin lever gun is the Remington made 2016 1895 CB 45-70. This beautiful Marlin lever gun made by Remington has Black American walnut forearm and buttstock, 18.5 “ octagonal barrel with Ballard rifling, the carrier is made from solid billet steel a first for Marlin, semi buckhorn rear, and gold bead front sights, 6+1 rounds, straight grip, trigger pull only 4 lbs. 6 oz. Compare that to the new Ruger made 1895’s with a trigger pull of over 7lbs.

I’m keeping mine as is , no custom or aftermarket anything … after I croak , it’ll be worth far more !!!

Love your whole series on levers. These stocks are very interesting, but will they work (do they have available) for us LEFTIES? I love lever guns (have four) because us left-eye dominant shooters (I shoot CAS) can use them easily.

I can’t seem to get the Midwest hand guard on. It seems like the nubs don’t match up with the receiver. Do you have to shave them down? Your other videos make it seem like it just slides in. But mine won’t go in to save my life lol

If you can find a Remington made SBL it looks and shoots and is the same quality as this Ruger made one here!! Don’t pay twice the price because of the JM and Ruger fans!! Remington does and always has made excellent firearms!! Sure this Ruger made Marlin is nice, but so aren’t the Remington made one’s as well!! I own a Remington 1895 CBA 45-70 18.5” octagonal barrel, 6+1, dark walnut buttstock and forearm, semi-buckhorn and gold bead front sights. This 1895 will handle +P whatever you want to use for ammo!! Just a wonderfully made lever gun!! Bullseye accurate right out the box, lever action smooth, just right!! The trigger pull is really nice too around 4lbs. 10 oz. It is a 2016 model.

Ruger misses the whole point of hunters and lever gun enthusiasts. They want a well made lever gun that is tough, runs and runs, and one that functions well and does what they want it to do. Remington made excellent Marlin lever guns. People remark about the checkering not being quite as good on the Remington made Marlin? This may be true but anyone who wants to pay over $2,000 for a lever gun should expect that kind of time and workmanship put into that firearm because they are surely paying up the YingYang for it!! The only Remington Marlins that were not so good between 2010 and 2015 were all made using former J.M. Marlin workers and J.M. Marlin lever gun parts only. When Remington started making everything themselves in 2016 Marlin lever guns were never so good as this, and at a price your average Joe could afford!!

It doesn’t want to go on cause the rifle isn’t an AR and wants it’s original wood!

Some of us like to put scopes on our lever guns. Unfortunately, that usually means removing the rear sight on this gun if you want the scope as low as possible. That Midwest rear looks huge and is even less likely to get low rings to fit without the scope tube hitting the sight. Something I would really like to put on my 1895SBL is QD rings combined with a flip up rear so I could use both irons and a low scope. Alas, the flip up rear does not exist. Something Midwest or someone with some engineering knowhow should come out with some day. A guy can dream, can't he.
