100% agree with being afraid to leave the house. My baby was also colicky and I was in total denial about it. We had to put in so much energy to keep him from crying … it made it not worth going out. It was also so annoying to hear other parents say “just do it” when their babies just chilled out all the time! Life is so much better now. We’re starting to venture out and have been pleasantly surprised at how good he’s been! Now he tolerates the car, the stroller, errands way better. ❤ now instead of purple crying we just have fussy grunts when he doesn’t like something. So much more manageable!!!!

Thank you so much, this was SO validating to read ❤️ I was also in total denial about her being colicky! I'd constantly google the criteria and talk myself out of believing she was haha. And then like you said, I'd see babies out all the time chilling in their stroller or in their parents' arms at a restaurant and was like HOW?! How old is your little one now? It gives me a glimpse that it won't be scary forever ❤️

For sure tell yourself ahead of time….if she cries/screams while you’re driving, just let her or pull into a parking lot. Don’t let her distract you, get that down and you’ll be fine. Worst that happens is you go somewhere, she won’t settle down then you can just go home. Truthfully what will happen is you will both do great and you won’t get anything done because you’ll be busy chatting with everyone who stops to tell you how adorable miss Annie is….those eyes♥♥♥♥you've got this…nothing wrong with using Jack as your anchor, you make a great team!!

I completely relate to being scared to leave the house alone with baby! My baby is 18 months old now & I’ve just started to get really comfortable taking him along with me to run errands & grocery shop alone. It really is the best feeling to accomplish things like that with your baby & prove to yourself that you can do it!

Mac, I appreciate the honesty in all your videos especially the most recent ones. I felt like I was the only mom with a colicky baby, and I was in such a sad sad place for a while. I’d see your ig photos of smiling annie and thought she was just one happy baby and you looked like one happy mama too like 100% of the time. I was beginning to think what was wrong with me. I wish more people shared about the reality of parenthood because all I see on socials is jusy everything rosy for the most part

I feel the exact same way when I saw babies online or chillin' out in public not crying, you're SO not alone ❤️ I just never went to grab my phone/camera whenever she was having a hard time, and that still applies to today as well! For example, Annie can last about 5 mins in her stroller before she's absolutely over it and it can be so discouraging when we're out for a walk. BUT any photo or video I get is when she's happy because those are the memories I want for myself. Plus, the camera immediately goes away when she gets fussy because I need to tend to her, but you just don't see that part! There are a bunch of happy and silly and loving moments, but the hard ones exist at the same time too ❤️

First time mom here too 👋. I’ve found warm weather clothes hard, because shorts are ideal temp wise, but I don’t like delicate baby knees on the hard floor when they’re crawling. I ’ve found a few zipper romper/sleeper/bodysuits that are long bottoms and tank tops that are perfect, but they’re not as easy to find as I’d like. If you or any other mamas have advice or recommendations, I’d love to hear ❤

This is actually really validating. Yesterday in a mom’s group, I mentioned not wanting to have my daughter in shorts too much right now because I’m worried about her knees, and about 25 women told me I was overreacting. I just worry about her finding that one random sharp crumb with her knee, or getting scars. I typically keep my daughter in sleepers or leggings for the most part.

Believe it or not I found my baby cried wayyy less in the car once I stopped riding in the back seat with him. I think seeing me sit next to him caused him to cry more because he thought getting out of the car seat was an option. Once I stopped doing that, the car crying stopped almost completely! Which made me realize solo car rides would be find. I do hold his hand while I drive still though at stop signs hehe.

Is it not a thing to wear bodysuits underneath the baby clothes in the US? Here in Germany we put them on like a type of underwear. That way the diaper always stays in place, even with 2 piece Sets, and you don’t have to worry about showing skin in case the shirt moves up 😅
@bmwdec301
@bmwdec301 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I treat them like a base layer. But what about a long-sleeved bodysuit, do you still put a short-sleeved bodysuit/onesie on under as well? Seems too tricky, esp so many snaps around diaper...
@itsmeninita
@itsmeninita 2 ай бұрын
@@bmwdec301 no I never put a short sleeved Bodysuit underneath a long sleeved one. If the long sleeve bodysuit is too cold to be worn on its own I just layer another piece of clothing on top. Here we basically use long sleeve bodysuits in the winter and short sleeve bodysuits in the spring/summer.

@itsmeninita

@@macdingle just make sure the bodysuit is made of 100% cotton. Cotton is breathable and tends to be cooler. The ones from H&M are usually made of 100% cotton 😊 but in case you’re on the go and think that your little girl might be to hot, just take the shirt off (or the pants - whatever you prefer)

Love convertible sleepers!! You have the option of footies and having feet out. Definitely look into little sleepies for longevity! I had similar fears about leaving the house on my own with babe- how to handle crying or mega poops on my own in public places. I also have chronic back pain so handling the car seat and having no one else to rely on physically is hard for me. (We got a Doona which I'm so grateful for, but lifting it is still hard.) I gave myself specific times to practice with it to start. Then moved on to every time we went somewhere as a family, I would be the one to get her in and out of the car to practice, and have dad double check my work. Then I ended up needed to take her for weekly chiropractor apts on my own, and that has been the most helpful for me getting used to it because it is a doable short apt not too far away, but I'm beholden to actually do it. It is definitely getting easier. Maybe schedule something you have to show up for together once a week when you're ready. It is stressful but you can do it :)

@@macdingle You are doing amazing! I see other moms out and about with multiple kids on their own and it literally blows my mind, that level of mom skills is far beyond me at this point. But I think we all get there by taking those baby steps like you said. I try to think of it as leveling up in a video game... and then each time we're dealing with something new, it's because baby wants to challenge me to level up. Maybe silly but it works for me. Thank YOU for being open and vulnerable about this stuff because I have felt like I must be the only person with these anxieties... It's really helpful to find out I'm not alone, and getting others' approach and solutions is so helpful and encouraging to see. Appreciate you!

Learning the baby terminology is a whole new world lol. As long as we know what we are doing, right?! I just figured out this weekend that the "body suit" is usually thicker to be worn more as a short sleeve top with pants, while a true "onesie" is usually more of a base layer. Cuffs and necklines are usually thicker, too in a bodysuit. I was calling the "footless sleepers/pajamas", rompers but realized a romper is more short bottoms lol. And I call everything footed "sleepers" even though I separate actual pajamas from day wear. I like Cloud Island jammies that are made of modal...soft and stretchy like the bamboo so they are nice for nighttime changes because they pull more easily. And lighter weight for transition weather and into summer. I've also found my least fav piece of clothing and most confusing, is a long sleeve onesie or bodysuit. In the smaller sizes (my baby boy is only 8 wks, so newborn/0-3, that in this cooler spring weather (we are in Montana) that by itself isn't enough up top but to layer with a onesie is too difficult and way too many snaps around the diaper... I had this realization while shopping a consignment sale this weekend that they will work well when a base layer isn't necessary paired with overalls! This made me really excited! Probably the next most challenging thing with baby clothes is the size fluctuations, even within the same brand, esp in buying used. We had organized by tag/label before baby came and then I've had to go back through all we had and pull based on actual size. Ended up moving some 12 months to 6 months and some 6 months to 9 or 12....I quickly realized this will be a constant battle...

If you’re still anxious about her crying and just generally acting like a baby in public, I wanted to recommend library story time! They’re usually separated by age group so everyone there is a new mom with a similar age baby that’s going to completely get it if she’s having a hard day. And it’s something super low key and low pressure to do out of the house that’s usually only like 30 minutes long. Just throwing it out there! Not being able to get out can be so isolating not being able to get out. I totally get it though and I was there too. Being able to get out regularly helped my mental health a ton

@@macdingle yeah exactly! And at that age it’s hard to find baby friendly things to do that are actually for babies and not for toddlers/big kids. I've just not had a ton of luck with online thrifting! It's hard to get a sense of the true size or quality of something that is second hand online. In-store I can feel the items, hold them up to get a sense of size, look for hidden stains, etc. ❤️
