With Sir Jim Ratcliffe considering building a ‘New’ Old Trafford or Redeveloping the current stadium, Andy Mitten has headed to Old Trafford to give his view. Let us know what you think in the comments below...
United We Stand: The Manchester United Fanzine:
First published in 1989 when Manchester United was very different to the corporate beast it has become, United We Stand is an independent voice of Manchester United supporters.
The majority of UWS writers watch Manchester United home and away and the mag has long been established as one of Britain's best selling football fanzines.
Influential, incisive, irreverent and proudly independent, UWS tells it like it is. You might not always agree with the opinions within, but you'll take note. #OldTrafford #ManUtd #ManchesterUnited

Agreed, maybe they could keep it and use it as a concert venue perhaps, and other types of money making ideas, maybe put a roof on it and use it for a ice hockey team, horse jumping area, Big Foot car events (or whatever they call it) lol, speedway maybe, just throwing ideas forward really so that we can still keep OT stadium, whilst still earning money to keep it going !

I have great memories of the old girl, one of the best being 26th April 1975, it was last game of the season and United were second division champs. The records show 58,000 plus attendance that day, 9:17 I’m sure the scoreboard said 62,000, but it felt like there was 70,000 in the stadium, we were all crammed in the United Road Stand like sardines and god knows how many fans had climbed on the roof and up the floodlights. Happy days. Love the show.

Man Utd's Old Trafford Stadium that a bit of TLC won't cure. All it needs is the Upgrade of the Sir Bobby Charlton's Stand with a 2nd tier to complete the original design & the removal of the 3rd tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson's Stand & replaced by TV Screens for all 4 corners. We also want a Levelled Retractable New Roof + modern refurbishment of the rest of the stadium to warrant a 90K capacity in comfort. SBCS 25K + SAFS 25K + SES 20K + ES 20K = 90K. Take Note: The Stadium Expansion should Not Exceed the rail track. Old Trafford Stadium known as 'The Theatre of Dreams' unique in style is the Super Bowl of stadiums & is potentially The best Stadium in the country, possibly the world.

It sounds like 150k should be a reasonable target then. We have to fill it otherwise the additional seats are pointless or will encourage more away fans (better atmosphere perhaps then however). 200k sounds ludicrous but if it's full then you do it. Look how big the nou camp looked when it was 120k. Logistically everyone actually has to be able to have a decent view as well.

Didn’t really like that stand at first, but it’s grown on me. You remember when they were giving away turf from the pitch that same summer btw? I got 2 big pieces in a couple of big bags. Lovely visual n update Andy I belive Sir Seb n team has to think out of the box as there is a 3rd option to built a new stadium n repurpose OT into a sports hub with various indoor/outdoor sports n related, Malls n Hotels, University, a Mass transit stop for train, metro, bus whilst maintaining the pitch for academy n women game and includes a running track around it with 10,000seatings. You have the option then of a few sky walk to link into the new stadium. My country has a unique stadium called My Tampines Hub and how it can incorporate so many things into it as land are extremly expensive in Singapore so it needs to be multipurpose yet serve the local community.

Nice video Andy. My opinion on this topic is that, Old Trafford needs to be refurbished to the levels of which Madrid did with the Bernabeu. Old Trafford is sacred ground. I feel like the right investment and technologies can be put into the re-development of old Trafford. Some investment can be put into Leigh Sports Village; which would benefit our women’s & U21 teams, as well as the rugby team that uses that ground. The main thing is keeping the spirit of Old Trafford, and finding ways to enhance it. A new stadium does sound nice and would be great, but some of that soul in the atmosphere of Old Trafford would be diminished,, up the reds ❤️👹

The cost of a new build of £90k+ to the spec United need will be closer to £3bn by the time there is a spade in the ground. Because they could do what Everton are doing and what Man City did years ago. Have the new stadium built, while continuing to use the old stadium. Only downside is that there won't be any parking. New stadium- -Retractable roof -NBA style scoreboards ( room for massive sponsors on it + can do fun things like celeb lookalikes with the crowd like NBA do) - 100,000 MINIMUM anything lower there is no point in building it. - have a section for cheaper tickets that goes to max age of 23 Fans with noise are younger... are youth will stick with us. Nothing crazy. Maybe 3k seats. Old stadium- - Don't knock it down !! - minimise capacity to maybe 25k even less if need be - women's games and academy games in there. Or use it for money generation....... For example: Keep the pitch and make the museum bigger and make OT a massive hotel. In connection with the marriot sponsorship. Could have charity games there. Top man Andy,I think we should downsize OT for the women’s stadium or even better, build a brand new stadium for the women’s team. That the men’s team could share, while OT is being refurbished or NT is being built, and we SJR/UTD should have the biggest stadium in Europe. 110,000( or to copy Howson 100,199 to commemorate the treble year, but theirs to many zeros 1999 )as the whole idea is for us to become the biggest club in Europe, if not the world again. So we should definitely have a stadium to back up our club as the biggest!! and Old Trafford downsized, maybe as a museum. But it should be kept as a part of the club in some way that doesn’t cost money but makes it in the long term for the people of Manchester and the fans of United as well as SJR to get his money back!! Man Utd's Old Trafford Stadium known as 'The Theatre of Dreams' unique in style is the Super Bowl of stadiums & is potentially The best Stadium in the country, possibly the world. The Owners were the ones who stop the Original project by using the excuse of the rail track complications. As stated previously, the design has already been laid out for completion of the stadium by original designers, to finish before the train track but the owners compromised by installed the 3rd tier cos the fans were complaining about the capacity at that time. Alls well we like to think that once the owners depart or bring in SJR and his team we can address the layout for the necessary expansion of the South stand, East & West quadrant issue ASAP because Wembley or Man City's Etihad is to far to deal with the fan base, we're sure that can be achieved with minimal fuss, going by our walk around the stadium experience by observation. Take Note: The Stadium Expansion should Not Exceed the rail track. We feel in 18 month to 2 years copying Real Madrid project with the right people it can be achieved in line with progress on the pitch! Worth a view, please share!

Great post. The Glazers also would never dip their hand into their pockets to fund it. No coincidence that the last significant work done was paid for & commissioned before they took charge. Also no coincidence that as soon as Sir Jim comes in that things are moving quickly. With modern engineering, the rail track would be a piece of piss to move underground under the stadium. If they do build a new stadium, I hope it looks just like Old Trafford but bigger & better, with a huge Sir Bobby Stand

@@robertmclellan3658At present The Old Trafford Stadium is still incomplete & needs is an upgrade of the SBC stand & East & West quadrant to be completed first before you can sort out the roof. This Stadium has a lot of potential & can be one of the best stadium in Europe if not the world with the original design cos it has authentic & character with the potential capacity of at least 90K, all it needs is an refurbished & some TLC. Take Note: The Stadium Expansion Must Not Exceed the rail way track! Man Utd 's Old Trafford 'The Super Bowl of Stadiums known as 'The Theatre of Dreams' is unique & a Colossal of a stadium.

Prefer a renovation but definitely not against a new stadium. But we HAVE to keep OT, its too valuable. Take it back to one tier (40k) or maybe a bit less, incorporate the museum into it and have the women and youth teams play there.

Dont think redevlop Old Trafford, but with the notice to all companies around the stadium to vacate means a new stadium will be build.

We could have a capacity of well over 100k and the season ticket waiting list will still be ridiculous

no-brainer - NEW getting Old Trafford up to the standard it needs to be wouldn't cost much less and with a new stadium, they could up their 50k season ticket holders as well as host other events earning the club more money

If it's a new stadium, I say call it "The Trinity Stadium." I've come around to the idea of a new stadium in recent times with the caveat that Old Trafford still be renovated as a youth and/or women's stadium.

I love the idea but for ineos and Glazers some of the attraction of a new build is selling the naming rights. They'd be looking for 80 to 100 a year for naming rights.
@jedsithor

@@pdfarrelly I certainly think the Glazers would want that but I think sponsored stadium names are pretty tacky. Frankly, if it hadn't been for the Glazer-imposed debt, United have made enough money that it could have paid for the stadium itself without the need to sell of naming rights.

We used to be Best in Class, we used to be debt free, the legacy of the Glazer Carpetbaggers is to leave us playing catch up after a fallow decade on the field and Grand Larceny off it. We will turn around very quickly

I can understand the appeal of a new stadium - if we truly rank ourselves as one of the biggest clubs in the world. (With Real Madrid and Barcelona) But…I still love Old Trafford. I agree that certain fans and “content creators” are always saying it’s falling down. It isn’t. It’s wildly exaggerated. And anyway, once you get in, who cares the atmosphere is amazing. On the subject of tickets, there needs to be more tickets for normal working people, not execs. I’m a member and have been for a long time, tickets are really hard to get at the standard price. Ballots are a joke! I think the club sells too many seats “with hospitality packages” costing upwards of £150 each!! It’s ridiculous. It’s an extortionate amount to pay for me and my son to watch United. I’m all for expanding old Trafford to 90,000+ but with more regular seats and less hospitality packages.
