New onX Hunt App - Fire & Timber Cut Layers with Forest Service Visitor Maps (Part 3 of 3)

Randy Newberg, Hunter is in the onX Bozeman office, where Matt Seidel, HUNT APP product manager is doing a walk through of the new features, layers, and user interface in the recently released onX Hunt App.

onX has asked Randy to product test and work with them on designing more layers, new layers, that will help make E-scouting easier and give greater utility in the field.
This video demonstrates the fire layer that shows old fires going back to 2000. These fires are more critical now than ever, providing the best forage in large undisturbed landscapes. This new layer shows those fires by size, year, and color.
Additionally, this video explains how old Forest Service timber cuts are now mapped, showing clear cuts and thinning projects. Somewhat like fire, those timber cuts will open the canopy and provide great forage for elk and other wildlife.

One thing I'd like to see added is a quick toggle button to turn off all my layers so I can clearly just see the Sat or Topo or hybrid to get a good look at the terrain. But then be able to quickly turn back on all my previous layers with one tap.

I think the property boundaries between public and private land layer should be free just so everybody knows where they can and cannot hunt but as far as the other layers, that could be a paid for option

heavyset0223 that's why 90% of people purchase the app, they wouldn't have a buisness if they did that.

It's up to the hunter to do his/her own due diligence to make sure they don't trespass on private property. Purchasing this app could be very cheap considering the other alternative is to be charged with trespassing.

Are these enhancements for just the smartphone app or will they be retroactive to the chips and garmin downloads that were purchased a couple years ago? If I upgrade my existing GPS chip/download will I get these changes?

These are only on the APP and the desktop WEBMAP product. The GPS units do not allow for all these layers.

Depends on many factors, but I usually focus on burns that are 1-10 years old.

Depends what tag I draw. I will be in Western WY this year for elk. No WY deer or antelope for me this season.

Your old account should work, so long as it was the correct level of service. If you upgrade to a higher version, use promo code RANDY and you will get 20% off the APP products.

On the lower left of the phone app (upper left on web map), tap Map Layers. Then tap Nationwide Layers, tap Historic Wildfires.

Jacob Tudor buy the California Premium map and you'll get a chip for your GPS and 1 year of full access to the map on your computer and phone app. Believe it's about $119.
