Interesting comment on the YT Decoy when the Decoy MX Core 4 is 21.7kg for a full fat ebike. Seeing how the new hydro stacks up against the rise and then the Decoy (if YT will lend you one) will be amazing, given the price range across the three. The Hydro looks the nuts though

Having spent two full big days on the carbon version, I can say this light weight ebike is the way to go hands down. The ep8 motor puts out just enough power at 65 watts where I think it’s powerfully enough in the profile 2 setting and the overall weight feels way better then a full fat ebike. This is a great big back county sled. Now they just need to make an enduro version. I love the kenevo SL but I think Specialized needs to up the power on that bike. Having owned the 2020 Spec Enduro, that frame is amazing. Now if they can just up the watts to 65 or more that would be the winning ticket for me.

No reason why this doesn't have the full power EP8. I have a 2018 Levo with the 504 battery and 97% of the time I never need more battery, riding mostly in trail, and a bit in turbo. Riding Innerleithen and the French Alps usually 18-26 miles and 2k' of elevation, I do ride minimum of 4 times a week, preferring more rides over 1 epic slog a week. Both look brilliant! I took delivery of an M10 about 8 weeks ago and am loving it. Once you spec them out similarly, their isn't much of a cost difference. My area isn't that mountainous and I've done some fairly epic rides without running afoul of battery restrictions. I like the modular battery setup on the M10. The smaller battery is sufficient for 99% of my riding and I only need to add the extender (and lug the additional weight) for the small percentage of rides that it is needed. People doing lots of climbing or spending more time in Boost mode may enjoy the bigger battery, though, and I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Cheers, All!

I don't understand how this can be 2kg lighter than a carbon frame YT Decoy? (19.8kg vs 22.9kg) Same weight motor, similar capacity battery. The forks would be a bit lighter on the M10 Hydro, as well as the 180mm rotors, but I'm not seeing what else is making it lighter. Then add in the extra weight of the aluminium frame, I'm really confused.

The EP8 RS is the exact same motor just with different firmware, so no weight difference there. Similar tyres and wheels as well. Maybe it's the frame like you said, it might be very thick carbon fibre while the Orbea might be very thin aluminium. Unless Orbea's battery weighs a lot less than YT's somehow 🤔
@viljosavolainen2286

@@brettmansfield Yeah. U are brobably right. Rs is just limited to extend battery live and also protect it. There is a reason why the engine is even more restricted when using that smaller extension battery. Theorerically they might have done small weight savings on the engine becouse lower power output and thermal load had allowed it. But then again differenses arent that big so might not be reasonable for cost increase to do so.

I don't get it, the weight thing. We have batteries and a motor. I weigh just over 100kg and I would take 2 litres of water on my back on a ride, another 2kg. Then I've got tools, a bit of food and a few spares, like an inner tube, a bit of extra clothing. I'd have the same extra kit on a bike with no power assistance, its just what you need to ride. The biggest difference I could make would be to loose 10kg in body weight. I've already done that in the last 3 years and feel much better for it. If I'd ridden my none powered bike as long and as far as I've done with my e-bike, I might have lost that weight. Realistically that wouldn't have happened as I wouldn't have the inclination or the willpower to do it. My guess is that these lightweight e-bikes are just to convert none powered mountain bikers to get into the e-bike scene with some credibility. If you have a rider that is super fit and competitive the weight difference may be slightly significant. My Orbea has a 625Wh battery and a Gen 4 CX motor, it just makes all my rides worry free.

Those tyres were great on my Rise when I got it last August, until the first day in the woods, absolutely shockingly bad - positively dangerous on anything wet..... Magic Mary and Big Betty straight on with Rimpacts!!! You can feel the drag but a lot less than the drag from a full body cast would be.... 🤣

does the motor still rattle? very curious if the allu frame hides the noise better

The rattling motor was fixed several months ago. My M20 which was delivered in July, doesn't rattle.

@@gsum1000 I hope this is true. Have h15 preordered yet the rattling ep8 is a major worry to me

@@In_dependent I can only speak for personal experience of my bike. BTW, the cables rattle against each other. This is easily fixed by taping the cables together.

Has anyone flashed the rs with the standard ep8 firmware. If this was even possible would the integrated batteys on theses light bikes be able to output enough current without overloading there BMS. It would be cool to be able to switch between motor settings and just add battery capacity or remove it depending on your ride that day Maybe in a year or two

I honestly think 99% of riders would not have the discipline to keep it out of full power mode (if you could do this) I know that I set off with the best of intentions to not use boost and I always do!! If this happens it kind of defeats the object of the bike.

All well and good .. but when are bike manufacturers going to address the elephant in the room...that being the massive unreliability of Shimano motors? With bikes costing upwards of £5k, and motor replacement (outside warranty, or original ownership) costing around £1k, they really need to do better.
