If you haven't done it already, try to find the 1981 and 1982 New Order Peel Sessions on vinyl or CD. Very good. And you haven't lived until you hear their cover of Turn The Heater On. New Order doing reggae!

New Order seemed to exorcise JD on this album. They had a lot of great albums but this has something that bridges the two bands so naturally.

In hindsight you are absolutely right, I don't think the JD fans of the time would have agreed! I didn't get into JD/NO until 1988, so the transition makes more sense to me as I didn't have any preference at the time. Two legendary band. Amazing.

Of all the demos dropped for the reissue, this is one the one with the most juice... and the one that makes you the most wistful for the Curtis vocals which would surely have floated across this landscape as they did on Heart and Soul...

Yeah Heart and Soul is very similar with the instrumentation. Ian would’ve done something different and more sophisticated than Barney managed

To take what the band come up with, arrange it, improve it and add a trademark sound. Just like Hannett did on the JD albums. His production didn’t work as well on Movement imo though
