Ill keep using my clipper card, thanks. Feel free to drop the program and focus your funds instead on things that matter like security, repairs and maintenance.

Cubic has been screwing up projects all over the world is the truth. I am not surprised this is delayed. Let's see other Cubic projects now: Bay Area- Delayed. London new validators- Delayed. New York Commuter Railroads- CANCELLED. Brisbane, Australia-Delayed. Sydney, Australia-Delayed. Boston-WHO THE HELL KNOWS at this point, but definitely delayed. Hmm....I dont know about you, but I see a common theme here with Cubic. DUMP THEM and go with another company!

if this was a private company, that group of employees would be laid off or terminated for failure to deliver product

Don’t be ridiculous. Private companies would milk that contract for years of additional payments while still failing to deliver anything. There have been many stories of Oracle, IBM, and other IT contractors bankrupting whole companies and governments with cost overruns on IT projects that get delivered years late if at all.

It literally is a private company that's building this system. It's called Cubic and it's the same company that built these systems for NY and London. They haven't fired anyone at all for this btw.

Just buy a clipper card from a ticket machine with cash if you don't want this?

This has already happened a few years back, dude. If you're not even from here why are you against "banning" paper tickets in the Bay Area? You can still pay for transit with cash or with Apple Pay.

Frankly, the fact that US public transport DOES NOT yet have contactless payment via debit/credit cards on buses, trains, etc. is ridiculous. Even poor countries in Europe have such systems and it's so convinent. What incompetence... Edit: clarified to indicate I meant contactless debit/credit cards!

The bay area has it, where this story is, it's called a Clipper card. You can tap a card, or tap your phone. This is about having a credit card reading device on every bus and transit station gate in the area, which I think is where the problem is.

@@Mike__B Yeah, I know. I have one myself. I've ridden on AC and Golden Gate transit and none of them have contactless payment systems. I believe BART, does. If no clipper, then you need cash. Clipper is nice for locals but terrible for visitors.

@@mrsleep0000 Not in my most recent experience as I just shared above. Even if some transit systems have it, it's obvious that not all do. Edit: the damn news report is about implementing the technology lol

@@wobblemind Maybe, we're misinterpreting what "contactless payment" means. I can get on any bus, train, or subway in the bay area and tap my card against a reader and I consider that "contactless payment". Now if you mean just getting one of said Clippercards then yeah BART has the ability to do that, but you can also download the app and just have it on your phone and pay via that. If anything the big problem with it is that the funds are not immediately available. Sure terrible for visitors... but 99.9999% of riders are not visitors so it's a trade off.

Clipper is by far the worst company ever their customer service is particularly horrid, oh and fun fact they tell you to move to virtual clipper card (then they charge you to move the money) and if you don't use it after 24 hours within a week your money gets pocketed by them.

So instead of having a single transaction fee that the credit card companies get for loading say $20 on a clipper card, they wanted to have a separate transaction fee for every time you use your card to ride a bus? Yeah... absolutely shocking that a government agency wouldn't see a potential problem with that. Clipper cards work, and they work for all transit in the area, and you can have it on your phone too, there's no reason to do credit card payments at a bus, you pay cash or you get a clipper card.
@fb39ca4
@fb39ca4 28 күн бұрын
In Vancouver there is a slightly higher fare for credit card tap to pay vs using the transit card. Good balance of convenience for visitors making a handful of trips and incentivizing getting a transit card if you are here to stay.

This needs to be upgraded TODAY. If the technology doesn’t work then they need to fix it TODAY or lose the contract forever. It was NOT successful in NYC and that transit agency discontinued the contract with Cubit who is the same company here that handles clipper. It’s a shit company of embezzling customers money.

Dude, what are you even talking about? What does this have to do with BART? This is the regional transit manager, the MTC, contracting a private company, Cubic, to install this new system. And what does this have to do with "incompetence"? They (MTC and Cubic) identified issues with the system and delayed the launch to deal with them. How is that "incompetence"? What are they supposed to do? Launch it anyway and then deal with transit meltdowns or complaints? SMH... Sheesh...
