Just sold my 1972 Honda 350 Scrambler. Rode it almost every day. Much fun but when I turned 70 it was time to say goodbye. My wife was shocked. She thought she would go first. Be safe and may Heaven’s Angels ride with you. Dan

Nothing better than seeing a long haired priest beaming while talking about his new motorcycle as Dancing Queen is playing in the back ground - LOL!!!.....I will give you my fathers advice when I was 17 and started learning to drive - "Drive like everyone is crazy"....It was good advice Father Dave!....God bless you, and keep you safe!

I started with small bikes also. 1975 Honda CB125 and 1978 CB400. Wet leaves and wet brick streets, sand and gravel got my respect real quick! Stress on neck and arms can be distracting and dangerous! 50 years of experience in two sentences! Be safe friend, your message is impactful for so many of us! Ken

Welcome to the cycling community!!! Got my cycle license at age 58. Took the MSF beginner and Intermediate classes. My first bike was a used Yamaha Virago 250. Now I own a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650. 12,000. miles later I have to say that the Kawasaki has been an excellent fit for my height as well as my riding ability. My husband has been riding for close to 50 years' he has a couple of Motoguzzis and a BMW. We enjoy taking extended day trips roughly 150 -200 miles round trip. Regarding your cramped throttle hand, purchase a 'Cramp Buster" it's a $12.00 item that easily slips over the throttle handle. Happy Riding!!!
@FatherDaveАй бұрын
Outstanding Holly. Thanks for the suggestion. Have an order for a pair. Sounds like I'm following in your (tire tacks?) footprints. the Vulcan is a cruiser style? Your husband may dig Nick Adams audiobooks if he's an audio guy. He loves old moto guzzis. Extended day trip later this month. Have to build up stamina in small muscles that haven't been worked like this before. Loving it

Father Dave, excellent choice in a starter bike, I state this with the background of 55+ years of writing 18 motorcycle later. One of the biggest thing I learned about riding motorcycles on the road because you’re always driving offensive and defensive at the same time. Stay safe God bless.
@FatherDaveАй бұрын
thanks Case. Would football be a good analogy then? you need to have a good offence and defense? Really enjoying riding back roads. no highway attempts yet -and meeting up at a diner with 2 priest friends who also ride ... priceless

He, in his younger years, raced motorcross,a susuki, in the desert ( we grew up in Southern California) and took his little sister sometimes, taught me a bit fun fun fun. He has always had a bike since then, 20's to now 75. He takes his Harley with friends and does the Run for the Wall in D.C. He is a Vietnam Veteran. Enjoy your bike for many years Father Dave! Video Popped out on KZfaq recommendation and happen to know this channel. I wish you a pleasant days with your Scrambler 400X. I wished to buy the same model for my first motobike, but the model is yet on sale for my country. So I decided to stay with Royal Enfield 350cc model. I'm satisfied with the model, but is looking forward to give it a try with Scrambler 400X. I'm wishing your safe journeys with the bike. Looking forward to your journeys on the bike (And also gone through some of your mass videos and they were nice! 🙏) - Dennis (Augustine of Hippo) from Far East Seoul, South Korea.

Hi Father Dave! I love watching your masses! I sold a Triumph Rocket 3....im 61 and been riding since my teens ..thats a great looking bike and excellent first choice! Ive been very lucky never to have been in an accident...i say a prayer every time and so far thats my REAL credit..to God! Be safe and enjoy! PS.. I personally amd proudly have NEVER owned a Harley...a LOT of owners look down on all non Harleys ..2 wheels is 2 wheels...that Triumph will ALWAYS be more dependable than anything out of Milwaukee!Be safe! 😎

Hello father Dave, such a good choice for your first bike, I have had so many bikes over the years but I can't wait to ride one of these, I'm leaning more towards the street single though, these bikes are awesome no matter how long we have been riding 👍😎😁

Thanks Randy. Do you mean the Triumph Street Triple? Or the Speed 400? I can see the helpfulness of fairings and automatic blinker shut offs. but there's a joy in this bike's simplicity too. Its fun to begin to wrench on it. something my fad started us on on cars back before they became so computerized

My first car was a 1988 Chevy Monty Carlo SS, I miss that car all the time! 2 finger breaking is a bad habitat, don't do that. All the fingers on or off. Otherwise you end up crushing your fingers, unable to fully break and reving the throttle all at the same time in a panic stop because of bad muscle memory. God bless enjoy, hope to join you for a ride some day

Way to go Father Dave !! You ROCK !! Love the motorcycle. Sounds like it runs & shifts smooth. I've been riding motorcycles since 1985. I own a 2010 GOLDWING. Excellent for long distance trips, only twice the weight. I'm sure you know this, but 2 things I've learned thru the years. When you ride on the streets, You have to make the "mentality" that: (1) Everybody NOT on 2-wheels is a 'Potential Assassin" (2) You ride as if you have 'NO RIGHTS' on the highways. These two attitudes will keep you safer when riding. One thing more, before taking on many "LONG" trips, you might want to consider a little sporty windscreen (windshield) to protect your upper body from kicked up road debris, small hailstorm, stinging rain drops when encountering those quick "ride through" rain showers. God Bless you and keep you safe out there. Maybe will see you on the ribbons of gray. Until then, "Two fingers down." Terry Follin, Sumter, SC '69 and still riding'

I'm gonna be 78 yrs old this summer.....been riding dirt/some street for 65 years. Learner bikes: 650 Triumph and YZ400....don't do that....pretty steep learning curve. Cruise control on bikes = organ donor. Good luck....get a dirt bike and it will teach you valuable lessons that will keep you alive. 400 cc does not keep up with highway traffic....watch for little old blue-haired ladies in Cadillacs at intersections...... Wear helmet always unless you're tighter with the Lord then I am...... I watch your Mass every week and also your channel. Good luck, Tom

Just bought the Speed 400 and love it. There's one major issue right now...these bikes are so new that Triumph dealers can't get the oil filter to perform the first 600 mile service.
@FatherDaveАй бұрын
Congratulations wh44! What color did you pick up? I found my dealer had them Xrreme Machines in Millstone NJ. so I picked up 2 for future use after the initial. Maybe you can ask them to send out a pair. Did you try Triumph Cleveland? they also had parts my dealer didn't (engine bars. luggage rack). But yes, their being so new is a problem atm. I couldn't get coolant (just wanted to have extra on hand). How do you like the Speed?
