I picked up a Trail Hunter after watching your video on the 6.5CM , and I picked it up in 6.5 PRC for antelope. Unfortunately it shot terribly out of the box, so it got returned to Savage. The barrel was bad, and for some reason the barrels were on (and still are) on backorder. They tried to talk me into a different caliber, but I ordered what I wanted and stuck with the PRC. After 5+ months they were tired of me calling every three weeks, and they offered me a free upgrade to something they had in stock, being a Proof Research barrel in 6.5 PRC. Today I got to break the barrel in and I'm ecstatic!! After 6 shots, with cleaning after each shot, the barrel settled in and shot a sub .400" three shot group, and repeated with another even smaller!! Savage customer service is second to none!!! (And now my trail hunter weighs less and shoots great!!)

I sight in all my rifles at 50 yards for a 50/200 Zero. Rounds will hit only 1 inch or so high at 100 yards. Works for me. The Zero at 200 yards will be .52" high for the ammo I use.

@JamesJones-cx5pk12 күн бұрын
@@shanevonharten3100Savage does it cheap by having a floating bolt head which won't bind. They also have a barrel nut which they can adjust for perfect head spacing. Others screw the barrel in tight but if the threads in the receiver or on the barrel are off even a fraction, they melt the barrel and start over. I have a Marlin X7S Savage clone. The Remington 783 is also a Savage clone.👍🤩

I have an old Savage 10 FCP in .308 that just hammers small groups. It's been to 1500 yards once, many many times to 1200 yards. Taken varmints to whitetail. I never kept a round count but it has pulled double duty as long range for fun and hunting for several year's. Some of my handloads have been HOT!! but after all that shooting, (lot's) it still hammers. The barrel longevity of the 308 is a real plus! The Speer 130 gr FBHP, (flying ash tray) running 3100 makes it hard on varmints. For long range I still run the old Sierra Matchking 175gr. One of those rifles that shoots most anything good and some excellent. Nice rig WTW. Great video and shooting!! ( With a busted hand no less!!) Keep'em coming!

Weird. Most of my hunting rifles over the years were Sakos, (.308, 30 06 and .300 Weatherby all loved 165 grain bullets, which I ended up using for deer, elk and black bear. Looking forward to seeing if the Savage likes them.

My Weatherby Vangard 308 likes the 168 grain ballistic tip. Consistent 1/2 -5/8 groups or there about. I’m happy. I’m not a big fan of ballistic tip bullets but it is what it is. I have taken 4 nice bucks with this ammo so it is working. If I can find some of the Remington 150 grain core-lok I may try them in the Weatherby. Been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Savage 308. Your videos are really helping me decide. Thanks for all the info you are putting out. All of us really appreciate it.

I've said it in your comments before, but my go to deer rifle is my Savage 10FXP in .308 It was a walmart special several years ago that came with Bushnell 3-9 x40 Mine isn't very picky at all about what ammo I use... From my experience, Savage rifles in general aren't that picky. I've owned a total of 4.. 3 I still own. For deer hunting I've been using the Hornady American Whitetail 150s. Anchored some big bucks with that setup.

I don't trust 100 yard groups anymore. I have a rifle that keeps em tight at 100, opens quite a bit at 200 and i cant even figure out where it's going at 300. I haven't seen any evidence of tumbling but that's really all i can figure. Im not suggesting that this rifle has a problem, im just saying that maybe you want to confirm at 300 or so yards if you think you'll need the longer range.
