A big improvement. I really wish that there was a simple "remove background" for easy shots. Modern AI can remove backgrounds from images, it's strange how on video it can't do the same thing (even frame by frame).

runway ai has done me miracles when roto scoping, use it more than ae roto brush 2.0, I honestly might make a comparison video

It's not strange at all. Even with images, removing a background isn't perfect. Now make those images move at 60 frames a second, and you'll see that it's a bigger challenge than you think it is. It's why filmmakers are so in love with green screen. They don't have to waste all that time in roto.

DaVinci's rotoscope is on another level. I tried rotoscoping a girl running with trees in the background, motion blur, and clothes moving around, and it rotoscoped her perfectly. Thirty seconds of running without losing her for even half a second. There was nothing to refine later, no pixels to clean, and no frame-by-frame work required. Plus, the rendering time was incredibly fast. I'm not sure what Adobe is doing. To me, it seems like the thing they were most concerned about was updating the subscription plan and its price. After that, they didn't do much. Premiere is still my favorite editing software, and After Effects is still my favorite for animation. However, the reasons why I like these software packages haven't changed in years. I still appreciate them for the features they had ten years ago. It feels like they haven't significantly evolved since then. I get the impression that Adobe may have been spoiled due to past success and is now just coasting. Meanwhile, a color grading software not only has become one of the best in its field but has also surpassed Adobe in some of its main features, features it has had for a long time already.

@@GoodyMorillasrunway ml, magic mask, boris fx roto tools, n new mask prompter with gpu is way faster ( its new tho, sad it doesnot able to store n retrive a alpha offline layer to correct n store n edit on later) but for most part to extract from a simple color bg mask prompter works great, nt with fingers , hairs n others tho)

unless i need very fine roto, ill be using mask prompter, which honestly still better than this. imo. much faster and cleaner. especially with the gpu advance mode.

Don't understand the hype about mask prompter. I tried it and got worse results than Roto 2.0. Plus it crashed AE multiple times.

Just saw the news some days ago... But as experienced user you know that in low contrast area or with hair you can use the "refine edge" brush... Should make this a perfect roto without phizzeling.

You need to export it as a QuickTime format and RGB +Alpha as channel. Should show you those option when you try to export it.

What's the benefit of the improvement if it's still not good enough to save you time? Still have to go in and fix all of the frames so doesn't seem like it does much for the end user.

One of the main problems i have is that when ever i double check my video clip (after doing rotobrush) and i see a frame (that needs to be fixed) i go back and fix it. However after fixing that one frame, the rest of clip changes and have to start over again. Any advice from all of you AE Masters?

Honestly, the only advice is learn to suffer. Because as of right now that's all you can do to painstakingly make your way through the process.

It is hard to give you exact advice as every scene will need to be roto-ed in a different way... typically on a professional set these are all factors taken into consideration by the VFX director but on the independent side the Ae Rotobrush is more of a shortcut and less of superior tactic... Enigmatic bypassed all of the advanced settings in the rotobrush too so best to seek out a tutorial specific on rotobrush that goes more in depth... overall roto in general can be a painful and patient process especially when using simple tools like this as opposed to more professional roto tools like Mocha Pro for example... but without explaining in more detail I advise finding a tutorial that covers all the ins and outs of rotobrush... Hopefully this helps a bit

Theres a button on the right side at the bottom of viewport called "freeze" when you use rotobrush. It freezes the roto and stops calculating when you add more lines to different frames. It is far from perfect and what we want, but I think its little bit better than letting it calculate all the time.

@@HamedEmine as a person using both AE for composite and animation and Davinci Resolve for Color staff. i would say rotoscope hasn't been catching up with Magic mask which is amazingly accurate and fast, it's like mask prompter but much faster and doesn't cost heavy on GPU like mask prompter

Meeehhhh it depends i use both alot and magic mask is alot faster but even in better sometimes it just doesnt get it no matter how much you sit there and dial it also no fine edge brush in magic mask but yeah its faster and more convenient than rotobrush just depends on what your doing. For clinical roto i.e vfx work id still pick rotobrush

Runway's rotobrush editor does it better than any other software and with much less clicks, Adobe feels like it's still way behind (even though I use it every day)

Magic Mask in Davinci Resolve is much better. But Adobe is in no hurry to introduce AI capabilities into its applications. Only in Photoshop they added a generative fill and stopped there. There are already a bunch of online services that separate vocals and music from a song and break it into separate tracks, but Adobe still hasn't added this feature to Audition.

In both examples, you're using "Best" quality for v3 and "Standard" quality for v2. I wonder how much of an effect this has but doesn't seem a fair comparison.

You're right, and that's why I just did a test right now to verify whether it made drastic change or not. The results weren't drastically different in best settings. It was still tracking people in the background and also losing track of the wrench. I would invite you to test it for yourself and let me know if you came to different conclusion.

Minor improvement to fluff the next Ae release since Adobe is too slow on implementing AI as they know it will also be their inevitable demise hahah... Most professionals only use Ae rotobrush for minor roto... Mocha Pro still top notch in this realm I think... Ae comes with a lite version... Rotobrush in Ae has always worked great on simple backgrounds though... anything mildly complicated can be frustrating but you also are not using all of the advanced features in rotobrush...

ill have to try mocha roto :) i been sampling all the rotos. I will say as am amature, roto 3 is frikken awesome!, but stoked to try more. i got mask prompter too but havent used it yet

@@P4TCH5S i mean it is what most people i have worked with used in the last decade for roto maybe longer... There are other softwares but in the age of AI i feel a lot of the AI base wants simplicity and speed... As AI will 100% do perfect rotos one day... and not sure if you work in film/video but rotoscoping is about as fun as rigging a 3D character... These are realms i am 100% ready for AI to take over haha...

@@AnotherRandomGurl luckily im sponsored so i havnt paid for it in years but if i didnt need Ae for my professional work i definitely don't see it an affordable option for hobbyists but I also dont know of many alternatives that are less expensive... As an Adobe user of 22 years now I think 100% AI apps will do most of what they offer within a few years... At least for content creators and independents... maybe a few more years thereafter where AI can do all the more professional aspects as well... but see what happens... I feel Adobe has a partial monopoly on creatives especially dinosaurs like me hahah... This old dog isnt about to try and learn any new software unless im forced too... haha

You're comparing 2.0 STANDAR to 3.0 BEST. Do a comparison against 2.0 BEST. The BEST quality in 2.0 is MUCH better than STANDARD. Still, 3.0 will be an improvement, just saying a more accurate comparison would be BEST to BEST.

@@enigmatic_e you mean not too significant between 2.0 Best and 3.0 Best or do you mean between 2.0 standard and 2.0 best? because between those two, it's a huge difference. I'm using 3.0 right now for the first time and it's better than 2.0 best but not as big of a difference from 2.0 standard to 2.0 best.

@@ROMTHIRTY i tried 2.0 best and it kept losing track of the wretch like 2.0 standard. For me 3.0 tracked things way much better especially when items and body parts come in and out of the frame. But use whatever works best for you.

you can't adjust it frame-by-frame, so it useless for production quality. it works good only on simple shots, that also easy for rotobrush

if you own Davinci then it’s better to use that. But if you only use AE, it’s good to at least get some improvements.

Yeah. I'll stick Mask Prompter. Rotobrush still has the archiac process of tracking. This propagation crap that only tracks forward, freezing and all that bull.. That needs chaning badly. AE is an archaic software.
