@@blaisemacpherson7637 what? You want to be told what to think by regulations controlled by corrupt (or corruptable ) political forces? When politics and governments in history were given th power to regulate and police the population’s speech, they usually started arresting and murdering them whenever they wanted. No thank you to your need to be protected like a child for having your feelings or opinions hurt. The answer to lack of love CAN BE more love. Lack of air should be more air. The virtue of a good thing can be the context on whether more of it is good.

Actually Blaise, more speech is exactly the kind of regulation you are talking about. Allowing people to be wrong, and talking about it without treating them like they are scum promotes understanding and reduces rigidness. It's not a quick fix, and you won't see results right away, but it does make a change. Who would you be more inclined to listen to and maybe change your behaviour? The teacher that throws you out of class and calls you a donkey when you are wrong, or the one that takes the time to listen, treats you with trust and respect and explains why you are mistaken?

The left should reject the language of cancel culture as a description. Don't even admit to the characterization. It means we've been mentally colonized into accepting the right's framing of us. Because, after all, cancelling is nothing if not first of all a conservative strategy. The RNC just cancelled Cheney and Kinzinger for pete's sake. ... Long before the left cancelled anyone, there was McCarthyism. There were burnings of Beatle albums. The left has been cancelled for its whole existence.
@joshbull623

@@dieterheinrich8377 Minus a split 2 years twice, democrats controlled the house for pretty much 58 consecutive years from the mid 30's to the late 90's, of that time 44 near consecutive years they controlled all of congress, and again of that time from the start they held the presidency for 14 consecutive years then sporadically another 20 years. Reject the rights framing of us? Who is the right? The far left considers everyone to the right of them 'the right' including old school progressives, liberals, and moderates. 1. You are confusing 'The left' with left leaning. 2. The right too often confuses 'The left' better called far left with anyone in the Democrat party yes, but make no mistake, it originated within the Democrat party. It is the liberal strategy for generations now to state it is in fact a conservative strategy. 3. A basic understanding of which party held power and when would help you as well as on its own destroy the narrative you clearly have. It is public knowledge and written history not my opinion, Democrats since the 1930's have run this country 'almost' unimpeded. They could have fixed x,y,and z at any time in the last 3 generations but then they lose their favorite narrative and campaigning tool "If not for republicans" "you can blame republicans". McCarthyism was from 1950-54 and you think it was solely the RNC?! From 49-53 The dems controlled congress and the presidency. Nothing happened in that era without the Democrats tolerating it and allowing it. Republicans didn't take power until the final year of the McCarthyism era where it suddenly came to an end which only lasted 2 years then dems took over congress for 26 consecutive years and but held the house 40 consecutive years and even took back the presidency after Eisenhower post 61 for a full 8 year term. The ring leader Senator McCarthy only lasted from 47-57 with 90% of that decade the dems holding the power and a majority of congress, that obvious includes a considerable number of democrats, shared the belief CPUSA constituted active conspiracy.

@@joshbull623 OK. Thanks for the information and your views. I don't really have a reply except to venture that the left is widely heterogenous, and not historically represented by the Democratic Party. ... I'm just saying we should not submissively accept the framing from the right that cancelling is something endemic to the left. We have been cancelled against much more than we have cancelled. The right are the actual historical architects of cancelling, and censorship, and repression and are still flagrantly guilty of it on a daily operational basis. The RNC just cancelled Cheney and Kinzinger. If you don't believe in the Big Lie, you're cancelled by Trumpoids. They're banning books. They're cancelling history. ... We need to turn the frame around to cast them as the cancellers until cancel finally loses all rhetorical power as a left stigma. ... It's about escaping the right's framing while also reclaiming our vocabulary. It is the left that is actually pro life for its support of the living. We are the patriots, not the insurrectionists. We are the real voices of freedom and liberty, not those who suppress voting. Etc.
@joshbull623
@joshbull623 2 жыл бұрын
@@dieterheinrich8377 If your firs statement is true, the Democrat party has made it very clear and campaign vigorously for generations now that they are in fact synonymous with the left. Whether a traditionalist like Nancy Pelosi or a more radical left compared to traditionalists, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, such claims would appear to be true. There certainly isn't any entertainment of such mindsets in the Republican party. So I would have to ask, what do think the left is? Your last statements on suppressing votes, pro life, insurrection of the 6th, these are widely Democrat party stated topics and campaigning subjects. I also have yet to hear any Republican party members claim to be for them either. Very confused. You also separate the left from the Democrats, yet consistently bring up the Republican party as if the ideologies that make them up are not also heterogenous with the party as there are more than just conservatives there. Seems like a pretty clear cop out to not take responsibility for clear flaws and mistakes to me since I have seen plenty of examples of the Dems doing exactly what Reps do so it would be a advantageous strategy in discussions, arguments, and politics to say your ideals are not represented by Democrats, but grrr, those darn Republicans, no excuses for them! Just not buying it. Actions speak louder than words and unfortunately they are louder than your words. You don't get to cherry pick.

We can all agree on wanting better schools for our kids, or better healthcare, childcare, affordable housing, jobs and thoughts on the climate. But the fight is how we get there, but I do not think the differences are all that great, and I wish more people could see that. It's how we feel we should get there and tackle the problems is the issue. There is a popular meme floating around recently, if the COVID shot is free, why can't other more serious medical solutions at least be more affordable and that is something worth asking. Why should people go bankrupt to stay healthy? The money is there to help, but we don't seriously demand the help collectively, because we have this US against THEM attitude towards one another and it has to stop. For, the simple truth is that karma is nothing more than yet another superstition based fallacious theory on how morality will ultimately be balanced out in the end by some cosmic/universal scaled ultimately powerful deity/entity... this belief/faith in: "Evil shall reap what it has sown; and the meek shall inherit the Earth."... Well even Mr. Bill Mehar is not able to explain what exactly is Karma. 😂😂😂 Yes Karma is a Sanskrit word for action and deeds. It is simply a word. Karma is used in all Indic religious philosophies not just Buddhism. It is extensively defined in Hindu scriptures. Now, what people try to understand across the world are known as philosophies of karma. 😂😂😂 1) The striaght forward and simple philosophy: For a particular result or objective you have to take action in that direction. Inaction won't help you to achieve objective. For example: If you want to go to destination 'A' from your place, 'B' you have to travel to destination A. If you don't move from your place or move to wrong destination C, you will not reach A. That's it. Right Action in Right direction. 2) The second karma philosophy about reaction and consequences: Your actions will always have reactions and consequences. Nothing goes one way. For example: If you do bad to people people will do bad with you when they will get chance. Add to it if you do good with people in general but remain careless about reality then the evil people will look for opportunity to harm you. So be good but realist and pragmatic. 3) The spritual philosophy of karma: All your actions and deeds in this life will have affect on your next life. This was not only to encourage people to do good deeds but to also give people some moral support that why certain unexplainable unfortunate things are happening to them. #Lastly Regarding reincarnation: So their many cases claimed reincarnation where no scientific, skeptic and legal investigation was able to explain the cases where a kid is able to tell so much details about his past life. Note: This is when two families were completely unrelated. Also, no economic, property or revenge or any such angle was involved. One such famous case happened when Mahatma Gandhi was alive and he also sent a investigation team comprising of researchers,etc. It is sad and tragic story. Yes one this often found common in these cases is sudden or violent death in past life. Hope these cases will be solved and some explaination will come out.

Notice how he was able to maintain respect and deference to Whoopi even though it would have been so easy for him to kick her while she's down for a cheap laugh. No, I don't have to admit it, because it's utter nonsense. In fact, having watched Maher go from crappy comic doing an eternally awful George Carlin impersonation in the 80s, to a LOLbertarian during his time on ABC in the 90s, to his commiecrat turn over the past decade and a half, I know that he's nothing more than an easily pliable, self-serving sack of dog shit. This is what keeps him "relevant", though his relevancy is non-existent beyond his leftist echo chamber. He and Rogan are nothing more than an illusory and perfunctory "alternative media", who both, in reality, merely parrot and support the politically correct/Maoist dogma prescribed to both sides of our "Less Filling, TASTES GREAT!!!" political show pony arena. This delusional notion that civility can be present in dialogue, when one side is too pussy to protect their voter base, while the other side is too useless and mentally ill not to abuse theirs, is called "avoiding reality". Hence why we're so easily played with the same hand over and over again. I don't give a shit about left and right, I give a shit about the hundreds of trillions of dollars in wealth that has been eroded and stolen from us over the past 15 years and the fact that your children and mine have been guaranteed a borderline 3rd world existence just a few short decades down the road, all for the sake of billionaire trust fund babies feeling like "the world is a better place", as they play three-card monte with 3rd world despots against us all. When Maher, Rogan, Tim Pool, and all of the other controlled opposition muppets start talking about that, I will gladly admit that they are people to admire. @@lizsalazar8808 My impression was he ridiculed the concept of karma, which he doesn't understand. He especially ridiculed the way Americans talk about karma, but it's clear to me from watching his shows for several years that he thinks karma is a just woo. He is a staunch materialist, but materialism can't explain the behaviors of living beings. It just piles one incomplete theory onto another without a substantial foundation or real connections between them. The semantic theory given by the Vedas, which includes karma, is superior because it explains everything holistically. You misquoted me. I said "Karma is literally all material experience." Everything you experience materially is your karma. Otherwise there's no coherent explanation for why we have different experiences. Science doesn't say how a supposed probabiliy becomes a definite event. They are actually possibilities selected by karma, which depends on choices. The concept of choices is incompatible with physical laws, but the law of karma is a semantic law.

As an Indian who lives in India, I have grown up listening to the idea of 'karma'. Bill is right when he says 'karma' means 'actions'. Another closely associated concept is that of 'dharma'. This is a very complex word with myriad meanings, but in this context, we can translate it as 'duty'. Everyone has a 'dharma', and the idea is that karma should follow dharma, that is actions should follow duty conscientiously. So far, so good. Where the ideas diverge is in the consequences of those actions. Indian philosophy broadly accepts that actions or karma has consequences. However, different schools of thought exist on whether those consequences can be accurately predicted by karma. While it is desirable for karma to follow dharma, the overlap (sanyoga) is often seen as more of a coincidence, since it is not easy for a human to ascertain their exact role in the grand scheme of things. Thus, the bhagwad gita says that while one's actions (karma) are in one's control, the consequences (karmaphal or literally the 'fruits of action') are not. This is to say that while personal responsibility is an important aspect of outcomes, there are other parameters that are not within one's control. This does not absolve one from personal responsibility, but tries to answer why, even after doing everything asked of them, one might not reach the desired outcome.

As a Christian I've had discussions with Hindus and Buddhists on spiritual belief. To me, and this is just my assertion, the concept of karma seems to be a process of lifelong learning. I cringe when I see someone say 'karma' so loosely and with such a caustic and disingenuous intent. There are plenty of caustic Christians who love pointing their fingers and dispensing judgement. They do so with their own sense of self-righteousness rather than the example of Christ. I tell people who love using the term 'karma' at the drop of a hat that they are no different from the people that they would bemoan as self-righteous Christians. What they really do not appreciate is the shattering of their belief that they are not being judgemental simply because they invoke karma rather than God.

The people here are nice, we just make a point of not talking about religion and politics with folks. When you eliminate that part of the conversation, it's pretty easy to see that as Americans we agree on about 95% of everything. It's our current political parties and profiteering opportunists in media that push us to hate each other over the 5% that when it really comes down to it doesn't actually matter to us that much. My parents generation hardly ever talked about politics with their friends and family, nobody cared. And it's not just in America that has happened. If the voters are asleep at the wheel or listen to television channels or read newspapers owned by right wing billionaires, before they know it, the rich get richer, even the middle class struggle and there's division and lack of tolerance. @Ryooken
@Ryooken 2 жыл бұрын
The problem with Bill Maher is he is wrong about the meaning of Karma. The monologue is fine as long as it is accurate and I get his message on cancel culture but, as usual, he doesn't know what he is talking about. For example, there are 3 types of Karma. You have Karma that visits you in the next life that means the decisions and actions you make will affect you in the cosmic scale in the next life. Then there is Karma that affects you in this life, thus, the decisions and actions have consequences both good and bad. In other words you reap what you sow. The final Karma is a specific action will bear fruit and cause good or bad depending on what you did in the fullness of time within this life. He is right not everything is karma and just because bad stuff happens doesn't mean it came from fate. However, he should know better to half-ass his way through misusing a religious context when he doesn't understand it himself. For everyone's information: Sanchita: is the accumulated karma. It would be impossible to experience and endure all karmas in one lifetime. From this stock of sanchita karma, a handful is taken out to serve one lifetime and this handful of actions, which have begun to bear fruit and which will be exhausted only on their fruit being enjoyed and not otherwise, is known as prarabdha karma. Prarabdha: Fruit-bearing karma is the portion of accumulated karma that has "ripened" and appears as a particular problem in the present life. Kriyamana: is everything that we produce in the current life. All kriyamana karmas flow in to sanchita karma and consequently shape our future. Only in human life we can change our future destiny. After death we lose Kriya Shakti (ability to act) and do (kriyamana) karma until we are born again in another human body.

@@viking4086 where do people come from? Claiming that Newton's Law doesn't apply is rather silly. Newton's law applies in any and every situation that it fits into. Like I said if you guys spent more time, understanding the applications of the real world instead of this pseudo-intellectual BS, then you guys will have a credible argument. It's funny how you're claiming that Newton's Law doesn't work but Bill Maher's statement based on the scientific principle that correlation does not equate to causality applies. Do you see how silly you sound? You probably don't but it is funny to say the least. Now back to my original statement, if you're going to talk about Karma then you should be accurate instead of trying to fit abs anti-religion stance into a monologue. If he had said she got quite stood on her own petard, that might have had some relevance, the problem is, that wasn't true either. If you want to make a free speech argument, make it about free speech. I don't disagree with him saying that Whoopi should not have been punished. I do disagree with the way he presented it.

@@Ryooken First of all, there is no single authority as to the meaning of the word Karma. There is the Buddhist viewpoint, and then Hindu, and they differ. Then there is the Tibetan Buddhist variant, which is infused with the native Bon religious viewpoint. Americans have boiled Karma down to "you reap what you sow", because that resonates with themes from the Bible. However the truth is that mostly the wicked go unpunished, and therein lies a major problem with your society, where cheaters prosper. In a just society cheaters are caught and punished, and the virtuous are rewarded. How long did it take to bring down Avenatti for example? He operated for years at the highest levels of the law industry before a humble woman brought him down.
