New RYOBI 120W Car Inverter Review 12V or 18V One+ Battery RYi120AVNM

While I'm waiting for the new RYOBI 150W 18V Inverter with Solar Charging that was announced 9/2021 to come out, I thought I'd look at the new RYOBI 120W Modified Sine Wave Car Inverter. It's only $50 at Home Depot and works with a 12V Cigarette socket or a RYOBI 18V One+ Battery! It has a single 120V AC socket and two 2.4A USB A ports. I ran load and capacity tests. It beat its specs, but is not super efficient (70%). It's a shame that it doesn't have a USB C port. It would be even better if it had a bi-directional USB C PD port that could be used to charge the 18V battery from Solar.

You seem like the man for this question.... I have tons of ryobi 120v chargers. I'd like to convert one to hardwire into my crv for on the go charging. what kind of component do I need between the 14v car DC and 120v ac input? Id like to REMOVE the 120v hot side from the home charger and insgtall a DC-DC converter in its' place and connect the output directly to the battery terminals. So maybe there's a discreet 14v to 20v lithium DCDC charger out there.

Hi Chris thanks for the video. Would your 100w Foldable solar panel with a 12 V socket and a Ryobi In vehicle charger(12 V DC) work to charge 18v Ryobi batteries off solar. I was just wondering I have the older version of the 150 W inverter we’re waiting for and the main reason I want The newer model is for the type C charging off of my solar panel. Thanks for another great video and thanks for the answer to my question if you have time👍 I would try it but there’s a snowbank where my solar panel should be and the temperature is 50° colder than it should be for charging a battery 😁

Nice review. Those P194 9Ah batteries do come in handy. Unfortunately I have heard that Ryobi in no longer making them and their new line of batteries use Chinese cells. The Chinese cells may not be as good, but who knows, time will tell. DTO has the 9Ah on sale for $80 with free shipping this weekend, so I caved and bought a couple more for my collection.

It may be a rumor or COVID supply chain issues, but I don't see either the 6Ah or 9Ah batteries in the new style of batteries(PBP###). The new batteries don't have the rubber edges on the bottoms and use Chinese sourced cells. I have heard that the date codes on the 9Ah batteries shipping are old stock which may indicate they are no longer being made.

You can buy a 9 ah battery all day everyday on ebay for 45$

@@chezeface1142 Knock offs maybe, not genuine Ryobi P194's. Different internals, definitely not the same, but may fit ones needs for the price....then again, it might cause a fire and burn your house down, IDK.😄

to power this device on you need to press and hold the power indicator switch for about 4 seconds.

Can you power one of your tools off this thing? I have one of your tire inflators, and I was thinking it would be nice if I could do this in a pinch, in case I don't have a Ryobi battery in the car, or if the one I have runs out. Thanks in advance!

Minimum voltage for USB is 4.75V. Does not meet spec. Might be the output or might be the cable.

guessing it's the cable. Voltage dropped as we increased the load

So when you said it’s running at .70% efficiency does that mean it’s only 30. % efficient? So instead of many hours of use we only get 1 hour?

your getting 70% of the stated battery capacity. A 100 watt battery will give you 70 watts of use.

Should have actually tested that battery capacity instead of just relying on on the label. My guess is this inverter is more like 80% efficient.
