Apparently Fire and Flee was in 5th as a special rule for high elf fast cav. I'm intrigued by the mention of skirmish cavalry, perhaps the replacement for fast cav and they can skirmish, which would be what the units would do in practice.

@@NineInchCharge apparently it was something Ellyrian Reavers had. it's great in WAP, it makes pistoliers even more awesome.

All sounds great, I'm glad they are making it impossible to hit or wound hard targets or high toughness. magic sound like it could be going back to third with battle, daemonic, and then maybe illusionist, elemental and necromantic. Is fire and flee not in one of the later editions? It's in WAP so I was assuming it was taken from 8th? the only thing i'm not sure about is dropping firing in two ranks, but it does stop people being over reliant on gun lines, and like you said, if it makes hills and terrain more important, that's a good thing.

The reason for the BS not being a fixed roll to hit is models with a high BS would need a lot of negative modifiers before their shooting is effected. Eg BS 6 hirs on 2+ normally but would need to be at -2 to hit before being negatively effected, I really prefer this way for me this represents expert missile troops who are great a firing under pressure

I’ll admit to being, initially, a little disappointed with the reversion back to a single rank to fire but then came to the same conclusion it was due to the potential of shooting to be more impactful due to smaller charge ranges. I also feel the shooting might be a bit overly complicated and then wondered if BS in general might increase or else how often will the rerolls come up? The only T10 I could think of was the dwarf armour Rune that gave you T10. It was a common sight in earlier editions as many things couldn’t would him but not in 8th as 6’s would still hurt! The steam tank at one point was also a very high toughness (maybe initially in 6th) but got changed. The change in detaching AP from Str is a great change as before the higher Str items often became the auto choice. I have a small concern that Cav could now be the stronger choice with increased chg range and generally high armour but hopefully the combat article will shed some light on this and how it will practically be balanced. The magic really is toned down a lot in this edition. I suspect this is to appease many of the 6th fans but I like the lore reason they gave to explain it with the winds having waned. I’ll also be the first to admit that some of the spells in 8th were obscene (mainly purple sun). Overall I’m getting quite excited for this edition (though not enough to rebase 😂). I’m also tempering my thoughts as we are still only getting snippets and until we see the full rules it’s not worth getting worked up about changes.

I might be remembering things wrong, but I think you needed to check morale if shooting killed 25% of the ORIGINAL figures in the unit in a single phase. The bit in the video just states 25% of figures, so this seems to be a significant change...

I’m not sure which demographic is up in arms I see absolutely nothing but positive in this article and I am an old-school player sixth and seventh. So I assume you’re talking about age of Sigmar players?

As a 5th-8th Ed. player, I’m “up in arms” not because anything is terrible on its own but because GW is stuck in the past with this game. I understand part of that is appealing to old WHFB gamers, but tabletop games (and board games for that matter) have advanced a lot since WHFB was around. Kings of War has nothing on GW in terms of models/lore, but they’ve moved the needle significantly in terms of rules. There are many others as well! New players (especially the younger ones) aren’t looking for the old crunchy rules that we were 30 years ago. While we want substance to this game and not making it dumbed down, it needed a LOT of streamlining that didn’t happen. What does that mean? Realistically this game is primarily only going to appeal to old WHFB gamers and maybe their immediate gamer friends. It won’t catch on as a major game and will stay a niche GW project. That means it’s kinda dead on arrival in terms of making a significant comeback. And THAT makes me sad and “up in arms”. GW could have done better.

@@toddjohnson1728 OK so the demographics you’re saying is people that wanted a lot of new and innovative game mechanics I understand. I guess the most important thing to me and the players that I know is that there are no massive mistakes and that the game is just above average because they’re much more likely to screw up if they do a bunch of new things, especially when the game literally has a one person development team with some assistance.

While I’m not up in arms about this article it does raise some concerns for me. I for one (and I think I’m the only one?) did not want to templates to return. However I am slightly hopeful that there’s a compromise in using the scatter die and having to actually tell how many units are under it. The bs chart is unnecessarily complicated and the super high bs chart is also unnecessary for how little it’s probably ever going to come up. Having the gamut of -1 bs conditions back in the game was also disappointing I hope that stays cannot be manipulated +\- 1 but I doubt it. However I do like the magic we got to saw. I must admit to be being a little traumatized by 8th Ed magic and this seems like a nice change. I also like that ap is it’s own stat too. Couple red flags but no deal breakers imo

I hope the rules are NOT gonna be 200 pages. Part of why WFB had so long rules, and AoS is much condensed is because what language was used when describing rules in WFB rulebooks, it was "banter" type of writing which: A - made it much, MUCH longer, and B - made it much harder to grasp. Since then GW went long way in better describing rules and condensing them and i hope new rulebook will keep it that way. Also what you said about "complexity". Making everything convoluted is not equal to making it more complex or "tactical" or w/e. Its just convoluted aka. written or designed in a bad way :)

I don't want 200 pages of rules either, but I do want a rulebook that is 200 pages filled with lore and artwork as well as rules
