nice shubhunkin! in my pond i have 2 shubhunkin, 2 canary goldfish , one goldfish and one sarrasa comet :) i love shubhunkins because there colours are so cool! :)

Just getting started with raising goldfish, began with my first Rubbermaid tank in early spring with 4 fish. now, they are nearing 6 in. and doing very well. I decided to subscribe to your channel because now I've purchased ALL needed for a 150 tank, and need to follow you closely. Easier to do with a subscription so I can receive the notices when you post. I'll be setting everything up in October, but not purchase my desired Shubunkins until spring, '24.

Shubunkins are by far some of the best gold hybrids around! Because they are hybrids(mixed with koi) they will grow faster and slightly bigger than the other goldfish. ADVICE!!!!!! Get a better filtration system and aeration throughout that pond asap! You should also have a fountain in the center. Filtration, aeration and fountain will clear that water up. Those fish are living in bad conditions right now! I've had my intex pool pond for two years now outdoors. 500 gallons and the water is very clean and clear. I use the 3 above mentioned solutions to keep it that way. I use the intex pool pump. Buy some half inch thick filter pad material. Cut it to the diameter of the inside pump. You will need about 4 circles cut for this. Place all 4 pieces inside firmly to the bottom. Fill the rest of the container with clean river pebbles. Good to go!

Shubunkins are a mix of Telescope Eye, Comet and Common Goldfish, they haven't been mixed with Koi

Have you tried a UV sterilizer for the big pond? If not, would love to see a before and after video.

Sorry for my extremely late response, but I just noticed I never responded to your comment 😅 I ended up getting a UV clarifier. It totally cleared up my water, but the UV clarifier ended up breaking after about 1 and a half years. Right now I don't have a working UV clarifier, but I have a much bigger DIY filter (in addition to the water fall filter I already had) and it seemed to fix my issue with green water and algae

Great video! I just dug a 9’x11’ - 4’ deep pond on my property. Will Shubunkin survive winters in my pond in zone 7a? Our coldest temperatures last year were in the 30’s.

Hi Elizabeth, congratulations on the pond! is that typically your coldest temperature? I could be wrong, but I thought 7a got much colder. However if it does get down to the 30s you may just need to worry about the surface freezing over and possibly get a pond de-icer to allow gas exchange with the water

Hey i have a question: Can i have shubunkin goldfish in my fishpond in the winter? I live in the Netherlands and its pretty cold here.

Hi David, does the pond get ice over it in the winter? They will most likely be ok, but they will probably go into hibernation and if there is ice over your pond you will need a pond de icer to create a hole in the ice so the fish can still receive oxygen

I've had Shubunkins outside all year round in England and the pond has frozen over and they've all been fine, at the end of the day it comes down to how deep your pond is, the deeper the better if you get ice in the winter

They just eat regular goldfish flakes and yes they definitely need a filter

Hey I have a quick question in my pond I have comet goldfish about some about 2 feet but anyway could I keep oranda goldfish I live in the uk and is very hot at the moment

Hi Lainy, are you saying the pond is 2 ft deep? Do you have a thermometer you could put in the pond? As long as the temp doesn't get above 74ºF 23ºC it should be fine. Some people will say that you shouldn't keep fancy goldfish with comet goldfish because there will be too much competition for food for the fancy goldfish, but I keep an oranda in my pond and it doesn't seem to have a problem getting food

How many shubunkins and ghost shrimp could I permanently house in a 165 gal, 24-inch deep pond if I could even house the two species together?

I think you could probably have about 6 Shubunkins. As for the ghost shrimp. I don't think they are really suitable for a pond. They are kind of like tropical fish and need a water temperature of at least 72º fahrenheit

I wanted some ghost shrimp to pick up any excess food, but I would want to give them the best environment possible, so if they wouldn't fair well in a pond, its best not to have them. Would you recommend any other scavenger type invertebrates that would be happier in a pond?

@@brejager2541 I would maybe suggest Crayfish, they will kind of scavenge, but the only thing is a crayfish can possibly nip at your fish. Personally I'm not sure if I would do it, but I'm sure there are people out there who do this successfully

Dude, you need to add some air and a filter to your pond. You don’t have to quarantine new fish putting them in that small tub cats and other critters will have them. You really need to step up your game on fish keeping before you start telling others how to keep pond fish properly. Good look to you all the same. Ps. and your 🐠. 🇬🇧

There is a filter in there, but looking back on this I admit I could have done with a bigger filter, but you 100% need to quarantine new fish. If you don't quarantine new fish you are putting all of your other fish at risk
