The only benefit to the assisted knives is that some states still restrict autos. People want what they cant have and assisted gives a legal substitute. Thankfully, my state got rid of those laws not too long ago. After actually getting what I wanted (an auto for EDC), the novelty wore off and now I carry a manual ball bearing. Funny how that works.

They make their money through a thing called excessive markup. That $300 "premium" knife in the beginning is made up of mediocre materials but demanding a premium price point. When you look at it from a materials standpoint, there's less than $70 in materials. For that price I expect Ti handles, Skiff bearings and Elmax or Magnacut.

@@davidgarrett5671 Hate to break it to you bud, but real knife enthusiasts, aka the target audience that SOG is attempting to cater too, do not mess with anything assisted. That's the truth, assisted died back in 2015 after the community realized that company's have finally perfected their detents on manual knives. Then throw in the fact that ball bearing pivots added a whole new dimension to the closing action with free falling blades, and assisted knives became as sought after as HIV in the 90's. Gerber, Kershaw and CRKT literally come out with 100's of new assisted knives each year; more then enough for the like 8 assisted die hards that are left. SOG dug themselves outta that niche over a long period, only to revert back to the same designs that killed their brand reputation to begin with. Hence why they went bankrupt and got bought out by the brand on this guys shirt.

@hunterglaspell
@hunterglaspell Жыл бұрын
@@wes.killed.it.5511 you have no idea what you are talking about. I have contacts with a few companies in the industry, and the reason they still make assisted knives is because they don’t cater to the “knife community” as much as they do the average person. The knife community makes up maybe 20% or sales. All the complaining from the knife bros falls on deaf ears until a company will occasionally throw a bone to the 20%

They lost their way when they quit building quality knives and started building cheap trash that was barely a step above gas station knives. At least now they have discovered that people will also pay money for knives with good steel. They sat on the success of their name for a long, long time and made nothing really new or innovative. Only when people quit buying their cheap, garbage tacticool knives did they realize they wouldn’t be around very long if they didn’t take steps to save their company.
