I still remember when the Slingshot channel tested an allegedly knife-resistant vest with a homemade dagger (so nobody could imitate him at home) and the Daily Mail wrote an article titled something like: An angry German teaches terrorists how to kill police officers. And they linked this poor guy testing fraudulent Amazon products with a murdered English police officer. Who wore a vest (not iprorted from amazon) but got killed because the attackers were stabbing the officer's uncovered skin. So it was the opposite of the video in every possible way.

Lol, they cherry picked the mock meats that were high in saturated fat. Most of them are low in saturated fat. Morning star chicken nuggets, 1.5 grams of sat. fat. Tofurky chik'n, 1 grams of saturated fat. Abbot chorizo, 1 grams of saturated fat. Plant boss taco meat zero saturated fat. Most of the plant based meat I buy is low in saturated fat. And that's not because I'm looking for ones low in sat. fat, it's because most mock meats are low in it usually. The only ones I know high in saturated fat are beyond and impossible meats, because they use coconut oil. Most mock meats contain no palm nor coconut oil.

Absolutely, as the study chart I covered in the video clearly shows, the saturated fat intake for the plant meat group was higher than both groups at baseline on their normal meat diets. That is despite a typical 40-50% drop in saturated fat intake that we see for vegans.

@@jenniferlittle9038 If you are replacing processed meat with processed mock meats that is low in saturated fat, it's a better choice is what I am saying. Tofurky chik'n doesn't contain a bunch of chemicals, you could make this at home, same with a lot of field roast products.

I've been a vegan for 10 years, and a vegetarian for 20 years before that. It's true that 'ultra-processed fake vegan meat' is much less healthy than unprocessed natural foods. The issue is with all of the chemical additives in all processed foods. I always avoid that stuff and get my protein from unprocessed nuts, legumes, and soy. I didn't became a vegan because I wanted 'fake' meat options. So the headlines quoted here are misleading, but it's also true that most consumers of vegan meat are omnivores looking for a 'healthier' option, and those people might find the articles useful.

Even if plant faux products were more unhealthy I wouldn't eat dead animals because health isn't why people are vegan. People are vegan to avoid harming animals where it's most practical and direct. I don't eat faux plant products daily. Maybe 2-3 meals a week at most in small amounts. Like, maybe 4 tenders in my Soul Bowl recipe or a Gardein Meatball in my pasta sauce. Also, I typically pick Gardein's more healthy version faux product with less saturated fat. Most meals are beans, tofu, rice, veggies, whole fruit, salads, whole grains and occasional flour tortillas or wheat bread. I eat fairly healthy most days but a few times a week I have some amounts of vegan chocolate or baked sweet potato chips.

The reason is not at all about the fact that it's a hard diet to maintain. I'm emotionally connected to it because it essentially saved my life. And if you go to other people and how they speak of it. It's an incredibly common aspect of carnivore. Having mental and physical disabilities be entirely nullified and then being told it's unhealthy by someone is particularly irksome. And frankly. If it was somehow less healthy for me. I'd easily be willing to die at 50 to have this life quality. I don't think I wanted to make it to 30 with how things were before my diet.

@@maverick5335That's exactly how everyone that gets involved in a new diatary trend behaves in beggining- a bit of fanatism. Been there, donne that with keto, macrobiotic and so on - people had the same "miracle" cures despite doing completely opposite diets (think carnivore keto vs strict frutarians). The reason behind this paradox: all kinds of diatary restriction are very healthy in our currently overfed society and caloric reduction, reguardless of form, is profoundly terapeutic. People get the insane benefits of some/intense caloric restriction and atribute it to their "ideal" diets.
@maverick5335

@@stefanisilva2493 Well I was never like this in my Mediterranean diet, nor my general low carb, nor keto. But keto was harder to stick to for me, and I doubt I was in ketosis much until carnivore. More restriction actually curved cravings in me for some reason. Where as with keto, my lack of will caused me to cheat sometimes like a dunce. I don't believe in miracle cures though. I'm trying to figure out why exactly my issues have gone away for me and many others, when it also don't do anything for plenty more. Clearly something here for me is doing better. And it clearly ain't universal as most people seem like they can be healthy without restriction. I think a big reason I'm probably doing better than the carnivores which complain though, is due to consistent beef liver being a part of my diet. And the incorporation of the centrum men's vitamin that ive been taking since even before my diet began. I want to slowly start adding things to it again though which I never made clear in my last post. From what I've seen from all sides of the spectrum, including some of the biggest carnivores, is that fruits into my diet would be good. Only issue is deciding which ones to do it with and at what level. As the worrisome thing for me is just how high modern fruits are with sugars, and my issues seem to be perpetuated mostly by even low sugar levels.

Could we not add IGF1 levels to the differences / advantages not explored also? (I remember watching the SBS cancer doco series How Not to Get Cancer and nz host Richard Babor is surprised at how healthy he is but still had a 50/50 risk of getting cancer indicated by his blood IGF1 levels - pretty eye opening that even the healthiest of exercising omnivores can have the flip of a coin when it comes to getting cancer or not.

It would be nice to see more epidemiology on this but this study shows that grill workers have increased polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure markers in their pee when they work vs not working: www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/18/1/230 Also, that people living near these restaurants have twice the markers: "The median concentration of urinary PAHs was 1196.70 and 627.54 ng/g creatinine in the people living near restaurants and the control group, respectively." www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-12040-8

This one too shows a relationship for lung cancer but it was significant in men only, though trended higher in both sexes: "Overall, we observed a statistically significantly increased risk of lung cancer in male cooks (OR1 = 1.27; 95% CI, 1.09 to 1.49) but not in female cooks (OR1 = 1.16; 95% CI, 0.96 to 1.40), before adjustment for smoking." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7508228/

@MictheVegan the first link: "Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of chemicals that occur naturally in coal, crude oil, and gasoline. They result from burning coal, oil, gas, wood, garbage, and tobacco" This does not say anything about meat specifically, rather it is the cooking process that causes these health effects. Meat could easily be removed or replaced with anything else and it will still cause said effects. www.cdc.gov/biomonitoring/PAHs_FactSheet.html Second link: The Nature website limits the ability for publications unless there is a ton of funding behind it: "Publishing options... ... Gold open access ... ... The final version of the published article is then free to read for everyone. The APC to publish Gold Open Access in Nature is £8890.00/$12290.00/€10290.00. " www.nature.com/nature/for-authors/publishing-options A few issues I have also found in this "study" article: does not take into account what people eat while being around such restaurants cross-sectional study, in which people are interviewed and asked for anecdotal evidence, without any follow-ups. This conclusion is based on nothing else but correlation and no plausible causes can be drawn from it.
@dimseablue136
@dimseablue136 Ай бұрын
My first reply here got held for review for the links so to summarize what I said, the first link provided here does not make any connections or direct claims that meat will cause health risks The second link:the issue with the nature website is that it requires you to pay a huge fee to post a public "article", does not have to be a valid study but most importantly needs a lot of funding for the information to be public. But regardless, it's cross-sectional which means at one point in time, people around said unknown restaurants have been interviewed so the evidence provided is anecdotal at best. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons come from burning of fuel such as oils coal wood etc, yet again they have no direct link to meat so the conclusion that meat causes these health effects are correlational not causational, or the links are irrelevant to the commenter's request. And as for the third link, just like the first one, does not seem to attribute inhalation of meat vapor directly to any negative health effects, or attributing meat to them whatsoever, if anything this only highlights issues regarding the food processing industries and working environments for humans, but that's another story

To add to this, and I know there is no way to quantify this in any study, is the behavioral differences in meat eaters and those that are not. Meat eaters tend to consume it in some form between 5 to 7 days a week (according to my nutritionist - who actually ate meat but in small quantities). Most vegans will dabble in the plant based meats, have it once a week or less, not depend on it for every meal.

One would think that when addressing such issues as FULL BLOWN DIABETES a diet change of more than two months should be considered. How could anyone take any data from this experiment seriously when the participants were likely meat eaters before eating vegan food, thus tainting any results within such a small window of time. Someone could have done enough damage through a lifetime of poor diet choices including meat and dairy consumption and be bordering on FULL BLOWN DIABETES before switching for a paltry sixty days. Can sixty days on a vegan diet help someone? Of course it can. One would need to eat a much healthier diet over a longer period of time to observe and record any reliable data. Perhaps if they were to test people who were health-oriented vegans for at least a year and then have them eat plant based meat alternatives for two months the results would be more reliable or even usable. They would never do that because their goal is obvious...TO PUSH MEAT!

The simplest and probably the more health conscious thing would be to not buy the Impossible Burger meats and instead make your own burgers at home using beans and other vegetables without the preservatives and additives and its cheaper on the wallet. But honestly what is even more frustrating is seeing just how divided we are as a nation that something like food preference can divide people and make them not like each other, it's 2024 and we're still divided now more than ever over our race, ethnicity; our social status, Man vs Woman. Eat what you like and be satisfied with that, it doesn't matter what other people's food preferences are. If they want to be unhealthy then let them be unhealthy, if they want to be healthy let them be healthy. I went vegetarian 6 years ago and it's funny seeing how differently people I know treat me because of it especially family members. They think that I'm being held hostage or something because I eat vegetarian or in some kind of cult. I eat vegetarian because I like how it makes me feel, it's cheaper; and you feel more satiated when you eat whole foods. There is a larger variety of foods that isn't just vegan alternative meats, you just have to be willing to try new foods and look more into it and put some effort into what you cook.

I would say ribwort plantain is a proper substitute for meat, if you are after texture. Mind you eat too much of it and the toxicity of vitamin c isn't healthy. What's best for the planet is how the food is grown, and getting people to be less picky. There is food everywhere, people are like, I'm not eating that. It's hard to look at studies where all the participants eat like 0.1% of all available whole foods

I dont wanna eat anything processed if I can help it. Our bodies don’t know how to digest these made up chemistry compounds and it turns to waste- and when I say this most people would say “yes great who cares just eat waste and then poop it out 😃💩” But actually if your body can’t understand what it is it glitches your system and some of the ways get stuck inside your body/intestines/cells/pushed into certain areas as waste that can cause tumors and cancer. Cancer is actually our bodies way of saying “this is waste I didn’t know what to do with it so I put it (here)” and so cancer is your body’s way of trying to survive…. Processed food = no thank you.

Believe what you want to believe. I was years on a vegetarian and then vegan diet convinced it was best for me and the planet, and indeed we find plenty of studies showing this to be the case. However it is easy to find innumerable studies "proving" the opposite. So...long story made short...through chronic ill health and awful depression from pain and the sleeplessness it caused and having read "The Vegetarian Myth" by Lierre Keith in desperation I started a 98% meat and eggs diet, and 27 months later I can say in all honesty that I have never felt more whole or stable and happy than I do now. Quite literally everything about my physical and mental health has improved in a way that is almost miraculous to me. My meat comes from a regenerative farm with a certificate of animal welfare...yes, I am still concerned about that...indeed, I applaud the motivation behind veganism etc...but with respect I would suggest you just haven't thought it through in terms of the health of the individual and that of the planet.

The study was "meh," and the reporting was trash. A typical win for antiquated industry, and a loss for the planet and those who dwell here. Good news is that as long as the government, industry, and media continues to shove garbage food into people for profit with no regard to human or environmental health outcomes, the supply and demand for whole plant foods will remain very even, and those of us following a WFBP dietary pattern won't be suffering the same inflation pressures that the SAD consumer does. Get the wins where we can...

Looks like a 'study' that was done to 'prove' that meat is better, so the actual results of this so-called study will be tailored to fit the 'proof' and of course the daily mail just laps up this stuff. There used to be a program on British TV called "Food and Drink" and one year the food guy was making all vegetarian/vegan meals. Funnily enough, the next season he was very much promoting meat.... I had the distinct impression that someone had told him meat or else..... One has to keep in mind that the meat and dairy industries are huge in most Western countries. They will do anything and everything to keep people eating meat.
