My husband and brother started eating the Impossible Whopper vs. the "real" thing even though they both love meat, and they choose it for the taste now. They have brought friends to try it, too, who are far from vegan, and they all like it, some even saying they would start to choose it simply because the wrapper isn't dripping with grease/fat like the actual Whopper. However, they put actual Mayo on it, so you gotta ask them to omit it if you want it to be vegan.

Peregrine Moss My man, first off I want to say that what you’re doing isn’t insignificant in the least bit, look at this videos view count, you are part of that, there’s are hundreds of millions of us individually, that make a collective. If it wasn’t for you there would be so many 10’s of thousands of gallons of water wasted, thousands of animals killed and tortured etc. You are greatly helping the industry, albeit a vegetarian, you’re doing the best you can, if I were you I’d go on reddit and try to connect a bit. You have a whole community of millions next to you. Vegans/Vegetarians make up 13~ of world pop. @@VivaLaRaw Exactly, it's worse than even feedlot beef for that and other reasons. It's ironic because vegans like to blow out of proportion the cancer risk of conventional animal foods, and act like it somehow applies to all animal foods. It blows my mind how vegans can say 5 eggs equals 1 cigarette and act like ANY animal foods are even in the same realm, and wonder why people don't take that seriously. Same goes for ethics and the environment, when the best pasture-raised beef is arguably more beneficial to the environment than harmful, and the cows are hardly suffering their whole lives, but just because they MUST be killed, it's 'murder'. It amazes me how much animal death and actual suffering happens just to save ONE pasture-raised cow, 1 million calories in one cow, 1 million calories of crops even if there's zero deaths somehow, it'll starve out countless animals that manage to survive the harvesting and agrochemicals. Then there's IGF-1, which increases risk of tumor growth, but vegans don't realize it's because it increases growth of everything, which isn't a bad thing. Spiking it too much too often is bad, that's why following a keto/carnivore diet it's a good idea to do 1-2 meals, and not at all difficult anyway. Eating only 1-2x a day is foreign to vegans, they eat almost as many times a day as they shit. Vegan athletes get injured and don't heal like they should for a reason, maybe they should spike their IGF-1 more and get over the fear of increasing risk of tumor growth, and get over the fat/cholesterol phobia while they're at it.

@@MictheVegan I appreciate the research you did on this, but you forgot one critical piece of evidence. Impossible Burger tested positive for cancer-causing glyphosate herbicide, thus making red meat less threatening, rendering this video misleading. Sorry Mike, neither can be called "healthy." www.momsacrossamerica.com/gmo_impossible_burger_positive_for_carcinogenic_glyphosate I planted this comment in a few places to stir a real dialogue between a lot of meat eaters who viewed your video, and as you can read, I stirred up a lot of minds to investigate the WFPB approach. I hope to hear how you'd respond to this new evidence. As I posted to a person here, so you know where I stand on meat vs. WFPB, "I support freedom to choose all the way. At the same time, we all have the right to seek the truth as deep as we find sensible and lawful, resulting in pleasantness for us and planet. Our choices should be informed from reality truth, rather than uninformed or bent truth in favor of the seller. Sadhguru has good advice, in order for humanity to come to terms with ourselves, the goodness of the planet, etc, we must have freedom of choice, but we dont have to respect each other's choices, in fact the choice to "eat whatever you want" under the flag of "freedom of choice" is an illusion in your mind because every choice affects everything else around you, either making pleasantness or unpleasantness for people and planet, Isnt that so?" @@VivaLaRaw, well, breathless and overblown pearl-clutching is good for trolling, so congratulations on that, but the only "discussion" I saw from meat-eaters was the usual "hurr durr, grassfed tho, hurr durr... hurrrrr..." that they would have posted anyway. And for the record: The association between exposure to glyphosate and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was enough for the WHO's cancer research division to place it in the category of "probably carcinogenic", the same as red meat. What's more, the LD50 for glyphosate ingestion in rats is more than 20x that of caffeine, so it possible that ingestion isn't even the vector by which glyphosate causes cancer, if in fact it does. All of the successful lawsuits where plaintiffs claimed Round-up gave them cancer were farmers who had used it on crops for many years, and therefore would have been exposed by skin contact, breathing fumes, and possibly by contact with breakdown products or products of reactions with other chemicals it might have come in contact with. There are a lot of legitimate reasons to deplore Monsanto and to be concerned about the overuse of glyphosate, but the breathless pearl-clutching over foods containing miniscule amounts is probably misplaced.

Hey Mic. Informative as always but I do have one issue with the terminology you used in the title. Asking which is healthier implies they are both healthy but one is healthier. I would think the question should have been more like 'Which one is less damaging'. That implies that neither are healthy but if you were to eat one of them then eating X is the least damaging.
@MictheVegan

I see where you are coming from but I think it's valid to compare any two substances in terms of which is healthier from the angle of: "Which would yield a healthier outcome?" Also just in terms of searches no one is searching for "which one sucks more" :)

I tried the beyond burger the other day here in Norway as soon as I found it, as I have read a lot of good things about the taste. I have never eaten meat. Well, I didn't like it very much.. I asked others, and they all said it tasted creepily like meat. So turns out I don't even like burgers that mimick meat. I literally only like things that taste plant. But for people who think plant foods just taste like grass, it's a good thing that these burgers can disprove them. If you want to be unhealthy, at least only harm yourself doing it, you know.

When it comes to selenium, I thought I was getting plenty on my diet as well. I was using Cronometer, and I always got well above 100%. But then I used a different program, which bases nutritional value on the content of local food. I live in Sweden, and our soil is depleted of selenium. So I had to get it from some other source. Luckily, a single brazil nut has about 100% of the daily requirement, so now I make sure to eat a couple of those every week.

hey Mic! Amazing video comparing nutritional values... I would like to see a follow-up (if possible) discussing the processing though... by no means is the processing for beef burgers healthy or optimal, but I am unfamiliar with this process. Impossible patties, on the other hand, have protein powders (which is most likely separated with hexane and high heat), coconut oil, and a bunch of different additives and preservatives that won't show in nutritional values BUT will have an impact in your health such as xanthan gum.
