Disney's Contemporary Resort has been a jewel of Walt Disney World since opening in October of 1971. In 2021 Disney undertook a project to remodel the hotel, and theme it after Pixar's "The Incredibles". We decided to book a stay to see if it's worth the money.

This is so bad… this doesn’t feel like a deluxe resort. It’s one thing to have a few rooms like this but to make every room this way is awful! The lobby looks really good. I don’t get why they couldn’t have brought that look into the rooms. This is a major disappointment

It makes you wonder why not make the garden wing exclusive to Incredibles themed rooms, and make the main tower rooms themed the same as the lobby. Definitely a missed opportunity.

I came to that conclusion as well. I kind of feel like they could have done that with all the recent IP overlays in the hotels. Make special categories for them like Port Orleans with the Princess rooms. It would be a win win situation. If they think these are more “family friendly” with the character themed rooms then families with young children can book them. And the other rooms have a true high end deluxe refinish for those of us that want to feel like we are staying in a room worthy of the high price tag. Smh

Ordinarily I'm not for ruining classic Disney hotels with these IP overlays but the Incredibles does make sense. It was the 60's version of "tomorrow" and so is the Contemporary. This isn't a bad idea of redefining something old as something new by referencing it to an IP that did the same thing. That having been said, I'm glad I stayed here in 2019 when the rooms were darker and felt more comfortable. This looks like.... A hospital. A mental asylum. Akrham? The vinyl graphics inside each room are a nice touch, the suits hanging in the closet, the liquor bottles, the artwork, etc, but it's just polishing a turd that's antiseptic white.

No desk? It does look like a value resort. The lack of storage is my biggest issue; where on earth would a family put their clothing with no dresser or chest of drawers? For a deluxe price, no desk or drawer space is inexcusable. I would never stay in that room.

If I was paying $120/night for this at a value, fine. But $750 minimum at a top tier deluxe? Hard pass. I hated the concept art and I hate the finished room even more. Shame as their lobby refurb was spot on. At least the bathroom is decent so they can soft refurb this pretty quickly.

I’m always shocked by the price of Disney Hotels. I understand that it’s a location thing, but I’ve stayed at $150 hotels with just as nice rooms, free breakfast, and parking. I feel like a more abstract reference to the The Incredibles could have fit the theme though. It’s the right era.

For one of the premiere, top tier hotels on property, this room is both tacky and unfunctional. I don't expect a deluxe hotel to be a cartoon. The Poly isn't as fully Moana-fied, and less offensive. But the sterile over-modernization, and odd angles make this simply uncomfortable and uninviting. Hey--the sofa faces AWAY from the television. Seriously? You have to be in bed to watch? No armchair. No desk. One oval table too close to the bed. One misjudgement after another. Having seen previous iterations of the Contemporary rooms, I always wanted to stay there. I suppose I'll have to wait another 20 years until they decide to take another swing with a designer who isn't working so hard to redesign the wheel to impress. The view is the one redeeming feature. Too bad it's hampered by this kid's room at IKEA.

I really really don’t like these rooms. It doesn’t look deluxe at all. Beyond the shoddy work, it just isn’t high end, or special enough to tell you you’re staying at one of the nicest (most expensive!) resorts on property. Wall decals? Like what I’d get off amazon for my kid’s room and put up myself so I can take down in a year or two when he’s not interested anymore. And a couple pillows and a curtain is just not deluxe. They missed the mark big time and I hope this isn’t how they’re going to handle future updates.

At least at value resorts, the screaming is outside. At deluxe resorts, the hallways are indoors, so the screams are even louder, as they echo down the halls. And look... ...I get that it’s New Years, but 2am is not an appropriate time to go up and down the halls blowing those stupid whistles Disney gives out. Tweens? I know perfectly well it’s some drunk adult, because what tween is up that late without an adult? ...if they are, then clearly that adult is just as obnoxious to allow such behavior. And we’re not talking about one time offenders here. This behavior goes on for hours. It’s not just one person. And lord help you if you have a room next to an elevator!

The Contemporary is our choice hotel. We stayed this past March and enjoyed it as usual. It was no secret that the rooms needed updating. Our bathroom had 2 leaks, the sinks were terrible (as you mentioned) the wallpaper was peeling, it was a pandemic stay so when we got into the room everything was damp with "cleaner" or whatever and it took 2 days for the carpets to dry. But this was not the answer for the living area, the bathroom I like. A great feature of the old living area was the surfaces. The "L" shaped desk area that was by the beds was perfect for bringing back takeout and a place to sit and eat in the room. It was also nice to put souvenir bags on it, now there is nothing. The counter area when you walked in was great to keep the snacks we had brought and a case of water, it was a large area. Now there is a tiny corner space mostly taken up by the coffee pot and ice bucket (that you can move I suppose) and there is a higher shelf, but the kids probably cant reach up that high, so not too practical. The old TV wall unit was also perfect with a little shelf for watches and sunglasses and magic bands, etc. Even with some space underneath for souvenir bags and the like. Now is just a slightly larger couch with no storage at all and 2 small surfaces on each side. I guess by and large my biggest problem would be the lack of surfaces, people need surfaces and this doesn't cut it. Though I understand they don't want you hanging out in your room the whole time, the room still needs to be practical and useful. I don't mind theming the rooms, but for the price per night, this was a giant swing and miss.

@@sharkrc3438 It was pretty mixed. Being my first time at the Contemporary, the theme park view and balcony were wonderful...but the room design was cheap and bad. I always loved the art style of the incredibles. A sort of Art Deco meets Minimalist design of the era the movie took place in; so some weird choices make sense (like the bit behind the sofa) because the minimalist art style often had stuff for no reason that to just look nice. However despite me loving the movies and the direction they went with the room; it doesn't feel like an expensive room. The "Travel Lodge" we have in england looks more fancy and goes for a similar style for cheaper. For a disneyland room it sure doesn't look like it and I feel they could of added more fancy stuff to make it look worth the price. Throw some lava lamps for a The Incredibles 1 reference or if it's strictly the sequel, some waterfeatures like a mini waterfall. The room is nice but imo not for the price.

Everyone saying the bathroom is nice but they expanded it and now the room is smaller. The size of the Contemporary rooms was part of the deluxe feel. What a travesty.

I'm not happy with this current trend of having larger bathrooms at the expense of more usable living space. I know a lot of people who love huge bathrooms, but it never made much sense to me.

Tom thanks for the honest review looks More like a Motel 6 room at best a Hampton Inn with the orange couch. What a disgrace I would never stay there. Keep up the honest reviews we all appreciate it!

Wow I'm staying at the Contemporary in a few weeks and it looks like I'm going to be staying in a motel room. Where is the desks/chair? Where is the nice sofa where the family could watch the tv? Where are the USB charging ports? Where are chairs for a meal in the room? You can't even use the ironing board trick to turn that into a desk since there isn't an ironing board. I'm hoping it is better in real life.

I have stayed there many times - how did they manage to make the room look smaller? Plus - they eliminated a lot of the horizontal spaces - which we always every bit of. I miss the warmth of the faux fireplace/mosaic light feature. The rolling table and desk area were so useful. All gone... for the look of a Japanese pod hotel. God - I hate the exposed undersides of the beds. Even the old space looking purple and green rooms were better.

I can say I absolutely loved the rooms at the contemporary the way they were. I'm not credible's and this look is not becoming of a deluxe resort. It looks more like something you would find at a value resort. I'm glad I got to stay at the contemporary when I did I don't see myself returning to this resort in the future.

It seems like they went in reverse almost, the carpet and wallpaper looks like something from the grand opening of the contemporary

This looks like a 90€ a night room we stayed at in the Nuremberg historical center, only that one offered free breakfast.

So they cut the perks of staying on property and jacked up the prices to ridiculous levels so can someone remind me why I should stay at a Disney resort on our next trip? Please don't reply"Disney magic" because they are killing it little by slow.

I do like the update. I never stayed here, but I agree that the quality doesn’t seem to be there for the price. I also think that only some rooms should be IP. The rest should be real MCM styled. I also like that it sleeps 5, since my adult daughter is 5’, she always gets the pull down.

the old rooms were so nostalgic man. it's sad to see what they've done to them. the moana rooms at the polynesian are nice, but i can't say the same for these rooms

We used to stay at the Contemporary for the Disneyanne Convention. What a change and not for the better. We had 4 grown people in the room comfortable. The rooms look so much smaller than they were before. We’re they 2 Queen beds? They look like full beds. Absolutely no storage for a weeks worth of clothes. No table and regular chairs to sit on if you have to eat in your room. Why does Disney have to theme the rooms after a movie? What a waste.

Everyone is saying this is an expensive room for a cheap experience, but personally I think it breaks the theming of the overall resort. Incredibles takes place in the 1960's. Does anything about that sound "contemporary"? Also, the Contemporary Resort was supposed to reflect Walt's vision of EPCOT. This does nothing for that. If this is what the parks are going to end up like with Bob Chapek reigning over Disney, count me out.

The Incredibles and most of the Pixar IP's don't have that timeless quality regular Disney stuff has.

Its odd that the sofa faces away from the TV. So if you wanted to watch TV during the day and not want to sit on the bed, you would have no choice but to sit on the bed. It renders the seating area useless, unless you want to just stare at whomever is on the bed. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

The endless summer resort at Universal that I just stayed at had about the same level of features and value, minus the bathroom which is much better but I also paid 950 less a night so bathroom isn’t worth that lol. Universal runs circles around Disney on hotels they need to learn a thing or two
