New Vs Old Army Painter Washes Featuring Napoleonic Miniatures

2 ай бұрынThe Army Painter has brought out their new range of washes, and I was keen to see if there are many differences between the old and the new range. This review compares the existing colours with their like for like replacements, as well as looking at the new Sepia and Rust Tones. I also dilute the washes with equal parts Wash Medium to see how it measures up to the old Quickshade Mixing Medium.

There wasn't much song and dance about them being included with the launch of the Fanatic paint range. Guess they were focussing on the paints and not the washes.

I have old bottles of shade so i think i might get some new ones to see,it certainly looked like a difference on your models,new dark tone looked crisper.Not sure about the newer coloured tones havent tried any yet.

I haven't got any of the blue/magenta/not a shade of brown washes yet. I don't often have a use for them. I am impressed by the new Dark Tone.

Looking to do the same thing, my old tones are getting on a bit now. With the old tones I just used matt medium from Hobbycraft, along with a little water. It worked fine, likely to do the same with the new tones

Thanks for this! Apparently, Army Painter keeps insisting that they've made no changes to their formular for the washes... even though they do behave different now, as you said at the end.

The one thing I can't be sure is the effect of use and time on the pigments and medium in the old bottles. But, the new Sepia and Rust tones provide much more of an overall tint than any of the others. Seems a different formula with those for sure.

I felt they were different as well, but chalked it up to the likely massive difference in age of the bottles. I have no idea when my old tones were made while the fanatics are likely less than a year out of the factory.

Yeah, that's something I can't be sure of with the test. Maybe I should re-test with the "new" ones in a couple of years and compare to see if there is degradation.

AP: Our washes are excatcly the same formula as before Every youyuber i follow: Tests and discovers a difference between them...

The one caveat to the whole test is that the wash in my older bottles will not have the exact balance of pigment and medium that they did when factory fresh. I might keep an eye on the results with the "new" bottles and report back if things get blotchier with age.
