To me a one piece takeaway is the start to the swing. Get this wrong and you may not be able to set the top of the backswing or develop an effortless golf swing.
Most golfers I see take the club back with their hands. In doing so, this tightens them up and can cause them to change the relationship between the clubface and the grip. Now as this golfer nears the top the club face can be open or closed as well as the hands and arms being too tight.
I teach a powerful, effortless pain free golf swing. A big part of that is to keep your arms turned off. This is a new way you can work on a one piece takeaway so you don't tighten up in the early stages of the backswing.
Give this one a try. You can literally do this anywhere and you can check to see exactly how you should be doing a one piece takeaway so you can learn how to master it.

This tip and also the one on hinging wrists have gotten my game back on track after several months of inconsistent play. Recently I've had an even par round, one under par, and last night I got in 11 holes and was even par. Yep, we golf here in Western WA. year 'round. Very playable here lately, though a little wet. Thanks Paul, you are a great teacher and I think good at spotting common ways we get off track!!!

I am a newbie to golf and have been struggling big time. I’ve watch countless KZfaq videos and even taken some lesson but still struggle to hit the ball clean. I stumble on your channel the other day and started watching all your videos. Today I watched the your lag video series and this help me so much. I went to the range today and I was able to hit my 7 iron so much more purer with minimum effort. Thank you much for all your videos! Please keep it up!

Yesterday I went to the driving range and I used the drill about the one piece takeaway. I focused on the the Y. It was really helpful, especially in getting me to keep my head down on the downswing. I hit a lot shots right down the middle and had good distance. Thank you for showing this drill.

Hello everyone! Vic here with a long story I have to share with everyone. Two months ago I lost my swing..Driver, Irons, you name it...for two months I dissected Paul's videos and practiced and practiced along with some fundamentals I learned after taking lessons, nothing extensive, enough to brake 90 for the first time and develop a base. I also build myself a hitting net in my backyard . Then came my slump 🤦🏽‍♂️ Well today I actually went to play for the first time in two month..I was playing with a gentleman, really nice fella, he would hit his driver with what looked like all his might and send it sailing through the air. Then came my turn to hit driver. Here's what happened pretty much the rest of the round. I started playing from the whites, he hit from the Blues. To be considerate I went to blues... I noticed that I was pretty much matching his distance, but with half the effort. Holy shit! Paul knows what he is talking about😁 From the first shot to the last all I can say was WTF! This works..so thank you Pual. Hope you enjoyed this story, sorry it was so long. I just had to share. Keep the faith and trust in the system. 👍🏽

I'm here because I prefer Couples' swing to DeChambeau's. 1:31 This is so true for me as well, the way I initiate my backswing is ultimately the way I'll initiate my downswing. For years I tried to start the swing with my wrist but it was impossible to deactivate them at the top and start the downswing with my legs. At the moment my takeaway is a little loose, unlike a firmer wrist action, but it has helped tremendously with the outcome of my swing - ball flight - shich is really all that matters. Less strain and fatigue as well, great advice Paul.

Good choice. The takeaway is where it all starts. Glad you see that and are loosening up. Yes, great feeling not to be in pain when you play. Great feeling when people tell you that you have a smooth, effortless swing too.

@@paulwilsongolf The body swing benefits all other aspects as well: ball striking feels more pure, tempo, rhythm, balance. Pros didn't kill the ball back in the day when you go and look film. It seems to be a "new" phenomenon and while Bryson is posting impressive numbers it'll be interesting to follow his longevity. Is there a chance you'll do some playing vlogs at some point? I'd love to see you playing some holes and giving some playing tips along the way.

Yes, Bryson is great for business. 99% of golfers will get worse trying to hit it longer because they are just hitting harder with their arms. This will never work. Bryson is using his whole body.

Really great. So much power is lost by early wrist set because all you’ve done is radically shorten the lever that is your arms and club in one piece. It’s basic physics: longer levers produce larger forces.

Exactly. Got to take it back right. See so many people breaking the wrists immediately. Shortens levers but also activates the arms.

Paul love the arms raised above the ground tip. The next step regarding the hinge and angle wrist and or butt of club direction would be a great next video. We can’t see the club so knowing if we are too steep or too inside ect ect would be great, especially with irons v. driver hinges. Thanks!

Confucius who didn’t know a thing about golf, told one of his students while walking along a country dusty road, to think only about one thing at a time. Answer: You are not Justin Leonard. Is your speed that fast? Do you make great contact? Right launch angle? Spin rate? etc. A slow swing speed doesn't mean you are going to hit it short. Lots of factors.

I like maintaining the Y but you are saying the arms and wrists are the trouble makers. The hands and wrists are what makes the 2 peice action not the arms. If you take the club straight back the target line with the arms maintaining the Y, your shoulders will engage automatically and it will look exactly like you are demonstrating. No need to intentionally turn anything.
