Almost a good tutorial on how not clean a bike! Even if the bike was really dirty, used an old mit or something… not the same brush that was just used to clean the drivetrain

I caused a crash on my very first team ride when I was 13 or 14 years old newbie. Nobody said anything spicy to me, nobody got angry, everybody had road rash but they were all cool about it and nobody made me feel worse than I already was. It was more than 30 years ago but I am still grateful for that. It wasn't an ideal start, but some of them later became my friends.

Bro… Your mechanic needs more than one cleaning brush to do it right. One for the drive train and another for frame and wheels!! Otherwise he’s spreading chain lube grime all over your wheels and frame.

Hope both you and Jordan heal well. Watching Austin clean and prep your bike it’s not how if do it but there is always more than one way to skin a cat. EJ, you should be washing your own bike more often. Just a bucket with warm sudsy water and a soft cloth will help a lot. It’s also a good time to spot small issues before they become big issues. Again heal well guys.

You have a great attitude and could have been a lot worse. I’m recovering from a gnarly wreck in a gravel race right now concussion, subdermal morel leision on my leg and everything. Make sure you give yourself time to recover I took 3 weeks off and just started riding zwift again this week. Coming back too soon can be worse than the crash. Stay positive!

Sorry about your crash. Might I suggest getting some surgical scrub brushes for that exhilarating post crash shower. Get the ones with the Povidone Iodine. They will clean and disinfect that road rash. Use the bristles to get all the little rocks out while you are screaming. You can get a box of 30 for about 50 bucks. They make great stocking stuffers for your cycling friends!

Wow that coulda' really sucked a LOT more than it did. Glad everyone's okay. Sad to see that new wheel destroyed but it's awesome you have VIP support from Reserve and your LBS! fwiw I did almost the same on a shake-out ride years back with my TT bike on a riverside bike path. Shouted on your left to a runner as he crossed from off the the right side of the path -- without ever looking behind. He turned around -- and went right! Hooking my bars and I went down @ 30mph on my face wasn't pleasant! Thankfully my new Zipp 808s were fine but my fork, face and helmet was destroyed! I can't blame anyone but lesson learned in my case - always be aware of the unawares and their tendency toward unpredictability. (and maybe don't do 30mph on a bike path!)

I've stopped saying "on your left" for this very reason. People sometimes just get confused. Now I just yell "I'm coming up behind ya!" with enough lead time for them do whatever they're gonna do.
@obikedog

@@raymondrichardson538 100% - I slow WAAY down around pedestrians, dogs, kids, cars near any turn they can make lol. They all posess a sixth sense for finding my path even without looking or consciously aware of my approach. This particular runner was way off the pavement to the right, jogging in the dirt when I first saw him. I wasn't going to say anything and stayed in the drops too long (ignoring that little voice) and sure enough, at the last minute, in those 2.5 seconds where it was too late to do anything - that's when he decided to glide over into my path.

Crashing with friends is a lot easier to 'put to rest' in your head then a crash in a race where you don't know the intent of people around you. I've still have scars on both wrists from crashing on gravel as a kid, won't ever go away since I'm mid 40's now and it's still here. But I don't mind some scars, I have lots more from other things, road rash is a sign of passage imo if you're serious about riding anything on two wheels. What scares me the most in a high speed crash is potential head impacts. Scratching the outside of my nugget won't matter to much, but I rather the inside don't get any more scrambled than it already is.
@Shadowboost

I had a crash just like this on a fun ride and got scraped up, my knee has the equivalent of burn scars on it. Destroyed my Oakley's, scraped up my frame, bars. Destroyed my Garmin, etc. And the guy who took out my front wheel was like huh? Are you ok? Then went on his merry way Pretty much didn't ride in any group for a year because of that bullshit

Sorry about the crappy new tire day and road rash - been there, done that. It sucks horribly. Asphalt is incredibly unforgiving when you're wearing nothing but Lycra and Styrofoam. But, I have to say, it truly blows my mind how someone who races bicycles is unable swap out their own tires and cassette....I can understand taking it back to the shop after the accident for a good once over but, to change tires?
