In oct of 1973 when the 1974 ford LTD Brougham first were shipped to the dealerships I bought one. I bought it right out of the show room. It was loaded. The only option it didn’t have was a sunroof. It had a 460 cu. Engine 😱 and also went ahead and put on some spoke rims which gave it more of that luxury look. I really miss my 1974 LTD Brougham 😢

Tony, I'm loving these videos you've been posting! I found your channel right around the time you were at Motor Muster a couple weekends ago. Thanks for not buying the NOS grill for your LTD...I ended up buying it for my 1974 Country Squire I'm fixing up. It's not as nice as your wagon, but it presents pretty well once it's cleaned up. I've had it to a handful of shows. This video is helpful because I also have a newer one year '74 hood ornament to install when I swap out the grill on mine. Thank you!

Absolutely perfect! Absolutely perfect. I agree the 30 spoke is a Houston TX Lake Charles LA look or atleast that’s the region that gives it most publicity. I like that 50 spoke look a lot. I would put the exact same wheel on my 83 Electra Limited 2 door. Thanks for the information about reproductions. I’d settle for a 30 spoke factory offset and dimensions. The 4.5x5 GM Buick Road Wheel famous on Electras and Rivieras of the 70s are almost impossible to find presentable or without severe damage.

My great uncle bought D series trucks in the 80s he traded in a truck I want to say it was 88 they deleted the hood ornament and it was a dealer installed accessory, it’s a family legend how he forced them to remove the hood ornament from the trade in and he would pay 1 hr labor for it to be installed or he wouldn’t buy the new truck. I think it looks fantastic! Personally I would have preferred OEM polished aluminum as came on the Lincolns/Mercurys with the red center caps but as you say, it's your car and to each their own. :) I am so jealous of your collection as I have many of these cars in my 20s and 30s, kicking myself for selling many of my cars of the past. Even though not a FoMoCo product I miss my "Smokey and the Bandit Edition" Trans Am the most. I'd be happy with any one of your collection. As we said in the 70s, "Keep on keepin' on!

I think the wire wheels look good on the car. They are period correct so as they say in the collector car market, "No harm no foul!" 🤣🤣🤣. Personally i always loved the 1975-1978 Ford LTD's more because of the hidden headlights on the upper trim models but luckily at least the 1974 had the stand up hood ornament. Didn't know it was a one year only with the silver. Our 1978 was black as noted. The 1973 had the badge in the grill but it just didn't look as elegant to me as the 1974-1978 stand up units. Thank you Tony for always showing detailed videos of EVERYTHING about these cars. Trust me many people will use these videos for references on their own cars in the future. Seeing first hand in a video is so informative even if it's just changing out the hood ornament. No job is to small because as a passionate person with these cars, i don't have all the knowledge you do so passing it on to others is really really awesome.

Those wheels are a good look for your car. I remember them well! I’m still looking for a nice set of stock rims for my Marquis that are in excellent condition before I can get some nice whitewalls to replace the ugly black sidewalls. The finish on the original aluminum turbine wheels is shot. It’s fun having something familiar again. I’m sure you feel the same way. Have fun and be safe! Mike

I have moved to the pro landau bars contingency on this LTDbird. The wire wheels feel like they have company with the bars, it's like they've hung out together before. White walls are the nicest thing that could be done for that car. I'd probably get the drill out and use the stone guards too. It looks like they saved the paint pretty well.

I love the 70’s Fords! My dad was a body man at Costello Ford back then and I remember those wheel lip moldings being all over the place in the shop and coming in the white paper wrapping. wow Tony, you never fail to surprise and deliver at the same time! I was not expecting wire wheels, but hey they are period correct and I do like the whitewalls much better as well. Don't recall seeing these Cragar wire wheels growing up in the 1970s. The landau bars actually don't look too bad with the wires on now. Oh and if all else fails, you can add the deluxe wheel covers... :)

I have new top part for the hood ornaments, I'm always buying the base mounts for bad condition ones like that you removed take them apart polish all the pieces and replace the ornament top that way I have a complete unit and then I put it away in the collection. To resell some day for people to put on their big pickup trucks. Send it along to me and I'll reconstruct a new unit out of that old one.

The tall black Landau ornament was used on the ‘75’s there was a tall clear Landau ornament used in ‘76 and the had the chrome strips on ‘5 and ‘6’s

Really about the 1976 Landaus??? I thought the taller Landau ornament was only used in 1975? The clear unit wasn't that used on the Ford Elites??? I'm not 100% sure but i think the 1976-1978 were the one Tony showed in the video.

I think these wheels look great on this LTD! The old Cragars had Dexter-brand tires, which I've never heard of. Were they old, or just an off-brand? And, I had to laugh -- when you took out the grille to replace the hood ornament and the weel opening moldings, you cleaned all the dirt off and polished. Exactly what I would do!

Tony, the wires look fine, and for me are a big improvement over the Cragar SS, which I’ve never liked and which to me don’t belong on a full-size car ever. The whitewalls make a world of difference too.

Those wire wheels really give that car what it needs, the black walls that were on it previously were hideous, the car looks so much better, it’s almost like A woman wearing a diamond ring on her hand? Really dresses the car up!

Tony you are an amazing Ford fan you do great work if I weren’t bog down on disability With Multiple Sclerosis I would be doing what your doing and I would be back to work driving Semi for some company or maybe become an Owner Operator anyway I would love to see a restored 75 - 78 LTD Country Squire fully equipped with the extra exterior moldings and the Brougham Vynyl roof option Leather or Velour interior 460 with the HD trailer tow package and I do mean everything delete void the exterior simulated Wood Grain appliqué’ but the wagon would have to have a custom over the top Paint job tu - tone the hood and all the pillars would be Raven Black the the premium Vynyl roof would be a padded deep grained Crinkle texture Black simulated leather the top side portion of the fenders & doors and along the top of the quarter panels down to the top half of the fuel filler door then the rest of the car rite down to the rocker moldings would be Peterbilt trucks Black Cherry then the simulated wood moldings surrounding where the simulated wood applique’ would have been wood be brushed bright aluminum I have it visualized in my mind see what you think about your Visualization of the theme tell me what your thoughts are Thank You Tony

Thank you, Sir! Thank is a whole lot of customization right there! I don't know about a vinyl top on a wagon. I've always thought it looked too much like a hearse, like with the Landau bars. 😁

They look nice. I'm glad they are real wire wheels and not just covers.I like the 1973-74 Ford deluxe wheel covers best myself. But you're right, what you like and prefer is all that matters.

As someone who strictly does OEM I would have used the deluxe wheel covers from the wagon and not made an extra expense but it’s his car and he should do what he likes even if we don’t agree. I have to admit those new Cragars don’t look half bad though and they really make the landau bars pop (even though he insists on taking them off and repairing holes). They kind of remind me of the Lacey style wire rims that Ford offered on the late 70’s Granada.

I promise you will like the car when I'm done with it. And the wheel covers on the wagon are NOT in good condition at all. I think you should know by now that I'm pretty much a purist, but I've never cared for those wheel covers. I've had people tell me to get those original GT wheel covers off of the XL and put wheels on it, and I would never do that.

@@tonyscarcare5657 Yes, I know you are a purist. That is why I was really surprised when you were considering keeping the old Cragars with white letter tires. With the wheels and tires it had on it looked like something you would see in a trailer park in the early 90s. Even though I would not have chosen the wheels you did, I have to admit they do look very nice on the car. They are a definite improvement.

@@tonyscarcare5657 I guess I just never liked those plain and flat looking base wheel covers on the '73-74 big Ford's and sort of liked the deluxe ones. But that's just me. The neat thing about the collector car hobby is people can change and customize things to their liking. And, for the record, I like almost any Ford LTD unless it has been ridiculously customized or changed. For example addition of a Lincoln style grille or spare tire trunk lid. One of my aunts had a '73 or '74 blue Ford LTD 4 door with those landau irons on the rear pillar. I can still picture it parked in front of my grandmother's home. Sort of a rare option even then.

When you have the time & resources would you consider installing a Overdrive Gear on the Reborn gorgeous LTD Country Squire I sure wish Ford would have done that way back in the 60s instead of waiting until 1979 the fuel savings would be excellent

That car is 50 years old, previous owners took relatively good care of it, with your new tires I believe you could get in the car and drive it to California and back, the car is just about as good as today as it was 50 years ago, well engineered, excellent body fit( probably better than todays cars) reliable engine, more comfortable ride, they really over engineered and over built cars back then at Ford

A definite improvement Tony. Those Cragar mag wheels and blackwall tires did not look good on that car. The spoke wheels and white walls was the way to go. They are harder to keep clean but I am sure this car is not a daily driver. I recently had purchased four new tires ( Uniroyal Tiger Paws ) for my 1987 Crown Victoria wagon on the stock Aluminum Turbine wheels. I firmly believe that these full size Fords or Mercury's must have white wall tires !

That's correct, but you do know that those first wheels and black wall tires were not my choice? They were on the car when I bought it, and I knew what I wanted all along.

@@tonyscarcare5657 Hi Tony, I was unaware that your 1974 came with those tires and wheels. I am glad you were able to get your wheel and tire combo as they look great. Getting white wall tires nowadays is difficult as I have found out last year for my Grand Marquis and this year for my 1987 Crown Victoria. Thanks for the video.

funny thing about this car and wheels..years back a guy few yeaRS OLDER THEN ME HAD A 73/74 LTD like this but it was blue..he also had the same wheels and white walls.i always thought it looked good like that

Hey Tony, I was not a fan of the black walls whatsoever and not crazy about the craters either. The whitewalls and wire wheels do look soooooo much better. Very sharp! I have to say that I’m not a fan of the landau bars…I did not know that they were actually factory, I thought they were after market.

My dad bought a brand new for 74 LTD Brougham 4 door with the 460 c.i. & ocean liner steering😂 - not the easiest car for learning how to drive! The new wheels are a huge improvement over the old ones, which just don't fit the car.
