I have the exact same desk, but I got mine years ago, and unfortunately never got to unpack it, as my dad was doing renovations in our basement but then tore his achilles halfway trough. When I got mine they only had it in white (and possibly black), but omg am I jealous of Kents desk! That is the perfect colors for me and our new apartment, might have to go buy a new one :P

This was really interesting :) tY for sharing. You have done a wonderful job organizing and decorating! I was thinking it would be super minimalist which I do love but it is workable with a lot of stuff, surprisingly. Are there built-in window treatments for privacy and glare, etc? P.S. I would miss trees...but not the allergies, haha

Thank you so much!!! That compliment means the world to me because we worked really hard to get it to feel spacious, yet homey. 😁 YES! We have cream colored shades that roll down. They semi-sheer, so they let in light during the day and block most of it at night. Haha yes there are some places with trees, but it's not quite the same. We're planning to take lots of mini trips out of the city to get fresh air!

KZfaqr @flywithstella did an apartment tour a few years ago and her apartment was almost the exact floorplan and I fell IN LOVE with that apartment....it almost made me move to NYC!! Your tour reignited that desire!!!! Awesome!! The views are amazing!

Thank you so much! We wanted an adventure and felt like it was the right time to jump on the reduced prices in NYC. Kent already worked remotely and I work for myself now! I haven't done anything with my teaching yet. I really don't plan to return, but you never know!

That sofa looks incredibly comfortable, and its design and color perfectly match the environment. I've never really had a sofa with similar characteristics because I really never have much time to spend in my living room (I wish it was different). My current sofa is a Togo sofa from Manhattan Home Design and I love it, for its design, but I haven't gotten to use it as much as I'd like :S . Thanks for the tour! It's a divine apartment.

What part of Manhattan do you live in? How did you get all that Ikea furniture to your apt since there is no Idkea store in Manhattan? Did you have it delivered or did you to go to a store, buy it and bring it to your home? If you went to the store, did you rent a truck to bring it to your apt?

Midtown! We bought some of the furniture before we moved and brought it in the moving truck. Then we went to the Ikea in Brooklyn for the other things. We took the train there and an Uber home!

Nice tour. Just curious as a Houstonian…what made you guys go from Texas to NYC? Most people are doing the opposite. You can get a nice luxury downtown apartment with floor to ceiling windows and all lots of amenities in Dallas or Houston, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms for half the price of a one bedroom in NYC. Also how is it walking the dogs?

Most of the ones we looked at did! Central air is really rare though. Usually it's a wall or window unit. It's hot some days, but nowhere as hot as Texas!

Think you got ripped off paying that much for a small apartment. You are better off renting a small room and invest the rest of the money in an index fund or a down payment for a house. If you are renting an apartment like that, you are just throwing money away and making some else rich. I used to rent also but realize I was just wasting money. I work in tech and I bought my house in late 2019 for 800K. Now it is worth $1.2M. House was old and needed some repairs but I learned to fix a lot of it myself by watching how-to videos on KZfaq. The best investment I every made was buying a house in San Jose. No apartment living will ever beat having a full front yard , garage, and back yard along with a driveway and your own property separated by a fence. I was able to put down 20 percent down for my house by living really cheap and investing in Vanguard index funds. Good luck to you.
