It would be interesting if you or anyone else captured and contrasted how people in the Bay Area speak since I lived there for most of my 20's, and people up there, including my ex I lived with for most of those years, thought my accent was weird compared to the bay which always baffled me in amusement. I thought it was just a slang thing but she insisted it was the way my friends and I spoke when we both stayed in Long Beach with my people over a few days on New Years.

Most of us in our 30’s right now are only 3rd generation here.. grandparents came from southern or midwestern states and had our parents here in the 60’s & 70’s.. our parents accents were shaped heavily by our grandparents accents and trickled down to us .. the southern accent is really the basis for the “LA accent” associated with the urban areas.. and being that Watts & South Central neighborhoods were the only ones who would rent to blacks when they arrived, most of the descendants with the heaviest accents are concentrated in those areas to this day.. my grandparents are from Kansas City (moms side) and Louisiana (dads side) and I’m always told I have a “REAL LA ACCENT” 😅
