Pretty cool to get some insights on your day to day. Most NZ Police videos here on YT are really quite old so great to see. Awesome that they are piloting a Auckland wing for college here too!

Any particular reason they switch around your shifts like that? I worked different shifts in Los Angeles, but each one lasted for maybe 6 months or more. That way, you get accustomed to it and the rhythm of activity on your beat.
@newzealandpolice5 жыл бұрын
We do a rolling roster two earlies, lates and nights then days off and repeat. So your shift times slide later and later as the week progresses. I find it really natural as long as you slide backwards towards waking up for day shift as you go through your days off. - Constable Hurn.
@unitedauzzie32076 жыл бұрын
on a serious note. i know you blokes and sheilas arent in it for revenues and that. im sure you have maybe seen some horrific crashes and you just want to help the community. i get it. so i raise a glass to you.

I am from the states and was a police officer for a few years. It is totally understandable to ticket people when they put others in harms way, but the stuff that I do not understand is why officers enforce seat belt fines or expired plate sticker fines. At the end of the stay the expired plate is nothing but a tax by making you pay for a silly sticker on your plate each year and when it comes to seat belts, of course it is always smart to wear one, but it is nothing but a money grab when you think of it. Motorcyclists are not fined for not having a seatbelt so why fine those in a car? The only time it makes sense to do that is if the driver has children not buckled in properly because they can't fend for themselves in my opinion. Ticketing people for silly offenses such as expired plate stickers and seatbelt stuff only begins to make good/decent people dislike police from my experience.

Just wondering about shift ends and overtime and all that. Are you free to stay on longer or is it generally only if your current job requires it eg that drug bust. Cheers
@newzealandpolice6 жыл бұрын
Overtime happens, basically if the job requires it. The next shift will be there to take over the new jobs coming in so it's usually not a long time, Constable Hurn.
