Newcastle upon Tyne. My brother took these photos for me in early 1981. I moved away from Newcastle in 1971 and wanted to see what some of the area was like at the time. They were taken on slide film, and I've just digitized them.

I can't get over how dated these pics look . I lived through those years in Newcastle , those landmarks are familiar to me , yet they somehow feel like a window into history (not literally) . The one thing it shows is a mans life , lived, is punctuated by images of his past and the world turns onwards relentlessly changing before our eyes without us even noticing ....thanks for the upload .

@DavidGarside 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham. I find the scanned quality is quite good but never as good as the original slide. The digital image is a better copy than the old film slide copier I had used yo give me. The Veho has a small amount of light adjustment on it which gives a bit of scope as you save the image, but as I said, not as good as the original. I think they copy quite well onto KZfaq, although generally the scanned image is a little better in my opinion, depending of course on the original slide quality. I hope that all makes sense !

I just thank God you haven't got the picture of me in 1980. Sitting on a swing in the summertime in leopard skin trunks, 😂 That's probably a good idea not to have photos like that. 🤣 Innocent times as a child from the wst end.. 👍 (west Denton swimming pool was amazing when growing up)

@@DavidGarside It is, it's always going to resonate with some, and some more than others... It does me! Akin to pathe news films etc minus being narrated by a 'posh' bloke, historical and informative.. 👍 Great to see people have this stuff still...

I went to Montague baths quite a few times.....took some courage to go off that top board ! We mostly used Northumberland baths though as we lived near the town and it was nearer there....having said that...the no 2 bus went along Westmorland Road and terminated at the baths.....

They ruined central station by making it a pedestrian only accessible it was much better when you could drive right up to the entrance

It was better but there was always tons taxi's blocking everywhere. Now the toon is a one way system with stupid bus lanes which you don't realise until you get round the corner and they have bus lane cameras rigged up too, ready to send you a nasty surprise in the post.

Although I don't live up there now, I still come up now and again, and also watch TTTV at home. I know what you mean about the Bus Lane leading down to the m/way and also the no-car lanes. When I lived there you could drive both ways in Northumberland St....how things change eh? Thank you for watching.

No, my brother took the photos that were relevant to my memories. If there'd been graffiti etc, I'm sure he'd have included it for me! 👍☺️
