And at any given time there would be would be a breakdancing or rap battle going on. Back in those days kids like me ran the streets from dawn to dusk. We were all up in the mix.

Alot of young people today see all the divisiveness in the world today and think that its always been that way. Today people say i dont see color, but back then we saw color and appreciated what everyone brought to the table and were down with it. As much as we make fun of the 80s, it was the greatest time for creative expression. Didnt matter who you were or what you did, it was the original real recognize real era.

Nah lemme give some facts on this song. You gon trip on some of this. Nucleus was a one hit wonder. Never heard nothing after this. No lie, this may be the first rap song using the still new 808 drum machine! Only pop and RnB used it and NO SONG programmed it better than this song! (Trap kicks, low end boom and bass lines and definitely snares all come from this same drum machine! Wait I’m wrong… Planet Rock used it before this! But it just looped with no change. Plus they just remade a record by Kraftwerk. This was an original composition! Anyway… can’t have trap without this machine. Especially the snare! True NY hip hop heads and street cats hated this song! For about a week then loved it on the low! It played 1000 times a day on the radio! Break dancing was on the way out (or reached it’s peak) till they dropped this record. Then break dancing became an American institution. Blacks created break dancing! We did it for about 6 months and then the Puerto Ricans made it famous! That’s right! Big up to the Puerto Ricans! (That’s why you see very few blacks breaking in the old 80s videos. We was done wit that!) But break dancing is hip hop to this day! So yes, Bronx Puerto Ricans are are a big part of the story of hip hop! Rappin on a mic wasn’t their initial contribution but they had hip hop breakdancing on lock! I was there! This song was like another rapper’s delight. They just found some No named ngas and had them copy styles from the real rappers of the day. Who were only hood famous because ngas didn’t have record deals yet. (The ones that did used bands that played what DJs chopped up!) Hip hop has an incredibly beautiful timeline. Nobody cares now but that’s the streets. This song counts! Why? Record labels still wasn’t moved by hip hop record sales! They was still dissin hip hop in the 90s. They thought it would die and couldn’t wait till it did so they could get back to “real music “. But when A&Rs went to the clubs and saw ngas going bananas over songs like this they convinced the check writers to sign hip hop. So yeah, in 2023 ngas need to honor this song. It got hip hop heard. I may be off on small details bet I’m right about the general idea. After that hip hop lit -ter -ral -ly changed the world! Blacks and whites and Latinos and whoever… Never had a musical genre that they all shared! NEVER! NEVER BEFORE THIS THING CALLED HIP HOP! For an OG like me to see y’all still loving hip hop, the music me and my rejected street ngas made, gives me goose bumps. If some other group in the future tries to steal y’all legacy by saying we didn’t make this, Holla at me! Unk gon set em straight! I know the entire step by step history of our multi trillion dollar invention.

How big was this song? I was 13 when it dropped and it was everywhere. It was all so new back then...and dope. Recently someone asked me my top hip hop songs of all time and I named this one as of them. And honestly I never looked at Newcleus as mcs. They were more of an electrofunk group. That bassline is everything. The drums, keyboards, All of it. I love how animated Cozmo D is with his voice. The emotion. Chilly B was nice too. RIP Chilly B....

What an amazing song. Yes, it was pretty popular at the time... probably one of the best breakdance songs ever. There are a few lyric mistakes in this video. Superman cools his AMPS not his ASS with his super breath. The ladies seen thru his X-Ray Vision were LOOKING SWEET... they didn't THINK ITS SWEET. But yeah, the beat and all the layered chords and vocals really sets a mood on this song.

I'm a 52 yo white male and this song first came across my radar back in the 80s when I was in my teens. I have been playing it ever since. Most of my high school friends from back then are well versed in it and probably can rap every lyric throughout the song. As well as "The Show" by Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys. Great times back then and I miss intelligent lyrics opposed to the garbage that most are putting out these days. Go back to school, start reading and learn how to write poetry before you pick up a mic! Record companies take notice!

This is the lowdown for this song as I remember. Newcleus first track was a song called Jam on Revenge (the Wikki Wikki Wikki song). It was massive, the go to body popping song back in the early 80s. When it came on everybody hit the dancefloor body popping. You must listen to Wikki Wikki Wikki song to get context for Jam on It as their 2nd release. Newcleus released an LP & Jam on It was released as a single at the same time & that ended up being a hit for Newcleus too. Although the LP was good it had lots of storm noises at the start of each track making it difficult for DJ’s to mix. Newcleus disappeared after their first album.
