In this channel we will be uploading videos with travel tips and suggestions for visitors who want to come to Sydney and its surroundings, from a local’s perspective.
This video is the 1st of 3 in our Newtown videos. In it, we explore the stretch of King Street that goes from Newtown station towards Broadway. Newtown is one of the most hip and alternative neighbourhoods in Sydney, and one of the most fun as well! In this video you can find many recommendations for good food, drink and gift shopping. I lived in Newtown for 8 year and some of what you said is true. The true Newtown local pub though is the Carlisle Castle which is two blocks behind The Courthouse. Places like The Marlborough and The Newtown Hotel are not pubs for locals, you mainly get outsiders and troublemakers in there. I used to train at Newtown Gym. Back many decades ago it was a department store, that whole block was. I forget the name of it but it's similar to what Myer and David Jones are now.

Oh we agree! Def the Marly and Newtown hotel are not local places, but for those coming from outside the inner west, they will definitely enjoy themselves there!

I hope the coronavirus pandemic won't affect the little shops and restaurants in Newtown too much, they're what make this place interesting

Definitely a lot of changes in Newtown since I stayed there 20 odd year ago lol is the billabong hostel still there just off king st ? ✌️

You should have shown the night life on weekends, the people in the streets instead of just promoting shops, which it's fine, but makes the video boring for those who might see it overseas while thinking about coming to Australia You show pubs and restaurants but without any human life in it !!

A bit disappointed.. the biggest vegan community, with 100% vegan restaurants that include vegan pizzeria, thai, japanese, vietnamese, mexican, queseria, indian, patisserie etc etc and it is only said one line about it. And recommending/showing the non-vegan ones..
