Everything YOU need to know before you go to Sydney Australia. Located on Australia’s southeastern coast, Sydney is Australia's largest and oldest city with a population of 5.2M Sydneysiders. Sydney is considered one of the most diverse cities in the world, with more than 40% of the population originally hailing from outside Australia. While originally Sydney started life as a British prison colony, it’s now most well known for it’s amazing harbor, magnificent beaches, delicious cuisine, all wrapped up in a modern city with classic British roots, that remains distinctly Australian. All these things combined make Sydney one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

I’ve lived in Sydney for more than 40 years. Never heard of anything called the “Bay Bridge” I think you mean the Harbour Bridge, sometimes called “the Coathanger” You also didn’t mention that tipping is not required because business owners pay their staff and dont force employees to extract more money from customers. For that reason Australian restaurant meals are not as expensive as you might think. You can still tip if you want to but it’s not required as it is in the USA the price on the menu is, like all retail prices in Australia, inclusive of any taxes. It is illegal to quote a price then add tax.

This is an excellent video on Sydney. I now live in San Francisco but as an ex Manly Beach resident I strongly urge visitors to catch the ferry out to Manly, grab some fish and chips and just sit on the beach. Vastly superior experience to Bondi Beach.

If anyone wants to see just how jam-packed and insane Bondi is in the summer, watch some episodes of Bondi Rescue on KZfaq. It's like the Freemont Experience, but on a beach. My favourite thing in Manley was hiking the paths between Manley and Shelly Beach. Used to be excellent nightlife there as well, but I wouldn't know now as that was 10 years ago for me.

Starbucks is too sweet and has too much extra stuff. I don’t understand why Americans can’t just have a normal coffee.

The opal card used for all public transport around Sydney has a daily cap of 16.8 AUD and weekly cap of 50 AUD, so just used them and do not worry about the high price single trips.

Really good review to this wonderful city that I know well. The Opal Card also works on the train out to Katoomba for the Blue Mountains. One criticism, nobody calls it the Bay Bridge - it’s the Harbour Bridge.
@susie9893
@susie9893 Жыл бұрын
Or just "the bridge" (as opposed to taking the tunnel). Opal card also works for all the public buses in the blue mountains I've encountered and many on the central coast. Sydney is mostly cashless but get out into more rural areas you MUST have cash, including coins

Thanks for this! I found you through your Vegas vids. As a local Sydney-sider, this is absolutely one of the best vids I’ve ever seen for orienting visitors to the city. I feel like you’ve given a great sense of how to get around the city and I love that you highlighted the diversity of the city.

@@omegammasi8204 June is our winter, but Sydney winter is generally regarded as mild. Usually at least 10 degrees Celsius during the day.
