Im a Mexican who was brought to America when I was 6 years old. I am 26 now, and my heart is split in two. Some Americans and their laws tell me I’m not from here, and some of my people tell me I’m too Americanized to be Mexican. Growing up I learned about US history and I couldn’t help but feel pride of what this country I call home has accomplished. I’m proud to live here and maybe one day I’ll be able to call myself an American but for now I’ll just shed a tear every time I hear Chris and his guitar singing an anthem about the sons of immigrants fighting for their FREEDOM. Thank you for this comment. So many people sing the songs with no true idea of where this country stood when it was written. A young country that was facing another attack by the British wanting their colonies back. Nothing was guaranteed at that time due to the strength of the British empire and could we prevail in the War of 1812. Our White House had been burned down, harbors and borders crossed. When the lyrics “oh say does that star spangled banner still wave” has meaning behind it. People too often sing it with a sense of arrogance and often over the top singing completely missing the mark behind the significance of the words in those lyrics. There was a sense of fear and trepidation. My favorite rendition is Marvin Gaye singing the song in 1983 at the NBA all star game.

The poem that later became the U.S. national anthem was written about the famous Battle of Baltimore during the British-American War of 1812. At one point during this battle, Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland, was bombed for 25 hours straight. I like the fact that you enjoy the American national anthem even though it’s written about the battle between your country and our newly formed country at the time. Chris Stapleton isn't just country. He's in a very elite class of artists who are a genre all their own. He can't be compared to or put in a labeled box. His talent is immeasurable. He sang that from his heart. He gave it a piece of his heart and shared it with us.

This was one of my favorite renditions of the National Anthem. But I am sure Chris Stapleton respects the "over the top" performances with "flashy notes" just as much as his own. They are artists. Artists are not supposed to sound alike. MOST people like to experience different entertainment. Whitney and Jennifer Hudson's rendition with the flashy notes was just as beautiful as Chris with the humble voice and a guitar. 🇺🇲

As a Frenchman, honestly, when I hear that anthem, I feel it just as strongly as if it were my own country. I'm in love with the American anthem. I find it so powerful and beautiful. Through this anthem, we all feel the love of Americans. The effort and work of immigrants from the 1800s, this anthem is magnificent. And when I see black, white, Latino, it doesn't matter, crying during the anthem, or seeing these players, muscles tense like ancient Greek athletes, shedding tears while listening to their American anthem, whoa, it's great. It shows the strength, the respect for this NATION. I love you, the United States of America.

Don't praise america too much. This country is one of the most evil countries in the world nowadays. Its still freer then some other countries but if things don't change ittl be another communist country. A darn shame.

Same. A Canadian citizen living in the US for decades, I'm about to take my U.S. citizenship. In a few months I'll be proud to say, "I am an American" and claim this national anthem as my own.

Normally I don’t enjoy a more interpretive style of singing this song; usually I’m the guy saying “sing the song as it was written.” But this? This was spectacular. Genuinely one of the best I’ve ever heard.

I agree. Most of the time it's self-serving indulgence. But this was pride and emotion pouring out of a human. He kept an artful pace, and he hit every note. Well done rendition that really had me feeling something.

I was really gonna say that. It seems people are glossing over how truly extraordinary her rendition was. Perhaps it's simply youth. C.S did amazing though, so much soul.
