@KX5Kat
@KX5Kat 2 жыл бұрын
Good luck, I'd say it's probably easier to get a great 40 time with age than a great 100m time. Unless you're unfit, you aren't going to hit your top speed in a 40yd dash meaning the 40 is mostly about explosiveness and acceleration and these are skills that can be maintained and trained with age.
@Stallagmite
@Stallagmite 2 жыл бұрын
@@KX5Kat my daughter timed me doing a 5 sec flat and a couple low 5s a couple of years ago at the local football field and I do love to sprint so at least I'm close 😁
@KX5Kat
@KX5Kat 2 жыл бұрын
@@Stallagmite That's impressive, but remember, hand-times are WAY off. You're adding your daughters' reaction time, which is around 0.2sec for both the start and finish, so a 5 flat is easily going to be a 5.4sec FAT. If you're not willing to invest in something like a Freelap system (what I use), then the next best thing would be a smartphone app with a good slow motion function. Start the timer after your first movement and have your daughter hold the camera and keep it in line with the finish line so you can time exactly when you cross it.
@Stallagmite
@Stallagmite 2 жыл бұрын
@@KX5Kat 😁 I had a similar idea- An iphone at the start and one of my video cameras at the finish line. Set them rolling, clap loud at the 20 yard. Line up the audio clap for the cameras on the video timeline (any sound delay would be equal if the clap is in the middle I'm guessing) then I can just figure out the time in the video track. I'm guessing it should work with decent accuracy. 😄 I have a purple toe from skateboarding at the moment though.

While the 40 yard dash is important and a good judge of overall athleticism, how often do the athletes have the exact right form (video states inches matter) during a play that is required to run their fastest speed......it doesn't make sense.
