Salt Lake City gets a bad rep for being in Utah. Beautiful city and one that has a historic winter sports legacy. Very likely they host the Winter Olympics again soon. Would be a massive boom for the region, balancing conferences vs. time zones, and would have a great fan base.

@@dsarmy1 they're getting expansion not relocation but Quebecor for Quebec City bid is postponed not rejected but NHL said they want to expand and looking at other cities besides Seattle before expanded to Las Vegas

We deserve an NHL team finally! We are a winter sports state, not to take away from Houston and Atlanta but we actually have snow and ice here. Kids are actually playing hockey outdoors on ponds and lakes. We have a great hockey history with the Golden Eagles from 1969-1994, Grizzlies from 1995-present and not to mention really good college and high school teams and youth participation numbers that keep climbing each year. We've seen a huge boost in hockey since the 2002 Winter Games and we're actually overdue for an NHL team, especially if the Coyotes relocate because of their financial woes, and stadium deal issues.

That all sounds awesome. I don't know why decent sized colder cities like SLC, Milwaukee, and Kansas City don't have NHL teams. At the end of the day, the League wants teams in the biggest markets, but it just doesn't seem natural to me to have teams in hotter climates. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn't

How about the NHL focuses on fixing their god damn rules and reffing before they try to expand again. You fix those so that fans can understand the game more easily and you'll get more fans than an expansion team will generate

You do know the League is not behind this push to bring an NHL team to SLC. If you can understand football and basketball, then hockey is not difficult. Took just a couple of games and I had it figured out. Your comment says more about your mindset than the game.

32 teams is enough 16 teams make the playoffs and 16 teams don’t. All that needs to be done is relocate the Coyotes to Québec City.

Hey, fellow Habs fans. The NHL had every opportunity (not to mention grounds) for moving the Coyotes to Seattle; but those underprivileged owners just had to have that extra dose of expansion money.

I live in KC area and been a life-long hockey fan. Problem with KC is that there is no corporate or group of investors interested. The ECHL KC Mavericks were a pretty solid franchise until Lamar Hunt (yes that Hunt family) bought the team, it's been downhill ever since.

@@GeorgeDubya43 And? Colorado lost the Rockies, got the Avalanche. Minnesota lost the North Stars, got the Wild. Bay Area lost the Seals, got the Sharks. Winnipeg lost the Jets, then got another version. Atlanta lost the Flames, got the Thrashers. Nice observation there Einstein.

Utah is better than Atlanta...but places like Quebec City & Houston are more deserving of teams..

I'm in Houston (originally from NY) and would love a team here, but not sure how hockey would do re: fan enthusiasm. Is the sheer population of the city enough for a proper fan base? Quebec City is the opposite... very small population, but absolutely rabid fan base.

@@GeorgeDubya43 It'd be higher in Houston...they care more about pro sports there whereas in Atlanta, it's predominantly UGA (and SEC) football which is way more popular than say their #1 actual pro sports team being the Braves.

@@benyang2427 Houston has approximately the same enthusiasm about pro sports as Atlanta does. The Houston area up until about 10 years ago hardly supported the Texans, rockets, and especially Astros.

Expansion is the future not relocation the league makes more money with expansion than relocation plus the own of the team must request expansion first then they must vote on relocation and the owners of the Coyotes are Hispanics so they won't move the team to a non predominantly Hispanic market but i see expansion later on but not immediately same goes for Quebec City Houston Atlanta

I didn't realize until this year how critical the water problem in SLC is. Looks like the drying up of the Great Salt Lake could cause a horrible toxic air crisis in the very near future. Scary.

Salt Lake City is an NBA city. The NHL tends to avoid those markets.

It was never a NBA market man also there is no jazz in Utah historically New Orleans is which is why you have them them there due to relocation to a non traditional market just as New Orleans before they received a second team

@@lanevalhalla9344 Ridiculous, huh? Explain Anaheim, Nashville, Columbus, Las Vegas and Seattle. The NHL expanded to these cities because the NBA is absent from all of them. The further South you go, the more basketball replaces hockey for popularity within the market.
