NHL GOALIE COACH: HOW TO GET SCOUTED AND GOALIE TERMS PART 1:
We all need to speak the same language when it comes to goaltending.
BTW Please subscribe as over 50% of my viewers aren't subscribed. It makes producing these videos possible. Much appreciated.
In Part 1 of goaltending terminology, I break down 15 key goalie terms so coaches, parents and goalies are all speaking the same language. From Aerial angle to the Y Theory.
Cole Sheffield and Spronse deliver the Give n' Go Drill off the goal line, this time from the Glove Side. We learn how you decide on whether you use RVH or VH here.
Scouting is not some mystical science. It is actually quite simple. Dominate your current level and you move up. Spronse and Keeks discuss the key things you MUST do to get scouted.

I’m not a goalie, just a beer league full in from a past life, slow d man from actual playing career. I just love the videos and technical details. I always wanted to be a tendy, just no skill or parents who wanted to spend the money on the gear.

Do you have to be a big goalie to get scouted or if it just more preferred? Also what age do you start to get scouted

For the NHL, Major Junior you need to be well north of 6’. All other levels may vary. But don’t take my word for it. Google the height of all NHL goalies and the goalies in the farm system. Even Nashville who has the last of the small goalies, (Juuse Saros) ALL other goalies behind him in the organization are 6’2” or taller. If even, Nashville is done with small goalies you know the answer. And….. many NHL teams do not permit their scouts to submit scouting reports into their organization less than 6’2”

Do they look at performance? Say a goalie is not winning a lot but is seeing 45-50 shots a game and losing 3-1 or 4-0 etc…. Is that noticed? If the team isn’t producing do the goalies saves come into play?
@FutureProGoaltending
@FutureProGoaltending 9 ай бұрын
Of course we do. At the NHL, junior and D1 levels we first look at height. North of 6’ is the benchmark. Sub 6’ aren’t looked at regardless of ability and performance. Secondly we look at subjective and objective dominance. Objectively, we look at stats ONLY if they are officially done at a significant level. Ie/ stats from a goalie playing aaa midget aren’t reliable. (Of course, and stats generated by a relative e would be wholeheartedly ignored for obvious reasons) So if a goalie isn’t winning because of his teams play in front of him we are smart enough to know the quality of the goalie. But, even if your team is legitimately getting 45-50 shots but has a sub 900 sv% then they wouldn’t be looked at, unless they were 6’2” 😎 So in a nutshell, of course a scout would look at performance delivery as a key indicator. Let me ask you this as a goalie mom. Would you and anyone we ask who watches all your son’s games, say he he is CLEARLY one of the top goalies in the league?
