Here’s a thought…how about throwing a bone to the faithful that lost their team to bad management. Considering the scenery in Salt Lake, the Utah Coyotes has a great ring to it?! Logos easily adapted, and an instant mascot appears? Cmon Utah, you know it is the right thing to do! For the record I have no Salt Lake connection and I’m Canadian. Just sayin.

There's a possibility the Coyotes could get rebooted within the next 5 years, so not using the Coyotes name gives Arizona a chance to get their team back again in the future.

Spin this anyway you want to bettman. This was 'contraction' disguised as 'de-activation'. I said that all along-nhl should just 'contract' az. and start up with a new franchise in slc. meulo got a $ billion to go away with 'deactivated' status. smith slc get new team out of deal-plus az. players, coaches, etc. Then when 5 year 'deactive' status runs out when merulo does nothing az. will cease to exist or be defunct. Bettman just couldn't admit az. was done. And didn't want to use wording like 'contract' to keep nhlpa happy jobs are kept and glad to be out of mullett.
