I think my favorite commentary on Mrazek's performance in that game against the Kraken came from The Hockey Guy: "Here's where Mrazek made his save of the night. I don't mean like a big save like HIS SAVE OF THE NIGHT. I mean just his save. For the night"

that falcon punch ... as a Hurricanes fan I think about how Rod has repeatedly complained about officials and believes an official should come off the ice and instead be in the stands or watching the live TV feed, because the game is too fast. That being said, there's a point where an official is standing right there and staring at someone getting punched in the face a foot away ... that's not a miss ... that's a deliberate decision to not make a call to influence the game. We'll never know if the official gets reprimanded, but I hope he did.

@@LiqdPT According to the unwritten rules of the NHL, if it happens in the last 2 minutes of the 3rd period and they don't want to influence the outcome of the game by making a penalty call ... what ever that means. ugh! The glove save isn’t as stupid as you say Steve….a baseball player can catch the ball if it goes over the outfield wall, even if his glove is over and outside the wall too as long as his glove’s still on his hand. Steve's right, a fine - especially the paltry maximum they are allowed to be fined - is no punishment at all. Especially since a fine does the Canucks no good in that instance. They were down by one and should have gone to the PP to try and tie it.
@bryanlane679

@@LiqdPT they were already on the PP too. This would have allowed them to go 6 on 3 with the net empty. 6 on 4 they almost managed, but they had Lazar on the ice instead of Garland because Garland's helmet was busted after that punch, and Lazar couldn't lift it over Vasi's pad. I'm fairly convinced the Canucks tie that up if they call a penalty. Now, do they win it in OT? Who knows. Is losing in regulation better for them given the season they're having? Yeah, probably. Still though, that's a dang-it.

Thanks for bringing up the common "soft" rebuttal. I'm in Europe and as such probably look at it with much "softer" eyes than most, but it blows my mind that some fans expect players to fight now and then if they play physical hockey, that players are "enforcers" on the ice, that players are celebrated for being rats when it's for *your* team. It's like there's a subset of fans that watch hockey like some fans watch NASCAR-they're there to see blood, not great feats of sport. Surely, the referees are there to adjudicate the game, the teams are not supposed to police eachother-and if they do, something has gone very very wrong .. . right?
@Hackattack7
@Hackattack7 Жыл бұрын
I'd say your both right and wrong in your assesment, are the refs there to make sure the game is clean, yes, but there is a lot of gray area in sports, especially in fast sports. Look at any professional field and its the 'job' of your peers to police up stupid things that go on. Do people take it too far, absolutely, especially when emotions run hot and its a team/player you particularly hate.

At this point, I don't know how the players don't just revolt until the officiating is acknowledged and improvement is at least worked on. You forgot that in the Oilers v Kraken game the first goal was a Darnel Nurse own goal on the penalty kill less than 4 minutes in.

The Dang-It on Talbot should also be on Chabot for stopping and letting Acciari walk in to pressure the goalie. I know he probably thought Talbot would play it cleanly, but he looks like he just gave up way too soon.

4:48 looking at the overhead I don't tgink Midelstat put it in, but it's a technicality because the stick motion says he would have. The dangit is he was close enough to clear and didn't.

19:30 first game of the 2021-22 season for the red wings Larkin gets hit into the boards with the intent of hitting his upper body, larkin then threw a punch toward the Lightning player which resulted in a 5 minute major being assesed to the wings and larkin being ejected. This lead to 2 tampa goals and for the wings to fall 6-7 in OT after previously being up 2 goals

To be fair, in Talbots defense Chabot did kinda just stop skating and let Acciari skate right by him. I feel like if Chabot keeps skating and takes away Acciaris angle to the puck and keep him to the outside that goal doesn’t happen.

Freddie Anderson tried to channel his inner Mike Smith. Unfortunately, he didnt get the "amazing pass to connor mcdavid for the game winning overtime goal", he just got regular mike smith. Oof

Memory refresh for Steve. Larkin punched Mathieu Joseph of the Lightning (at the time) in the Detroit home opener last year after Joseph boarded him (fresh off a neck surgery).

From that first Kraken-Oilers game, Jones also left the puck right behind him in the crease and Derek Ryan poked it home because nobody else saw it.

Apparently you're allowed to slew foot a goal tender as long as his foot is just outside the blue paint, and have it result in a goal immediately following, and not have the goal waived off for ANY sort of interference or trip. Nope, according to the NHL, it's a totally legal play to take the goalie out as long as he's playing his position properly to take away the angle of a shot.

I feel for Mrazek - I had a first period like that last game, and I'll bet I woulda gotten pulled if there was another goalie on the bench. Dang-it indeed, but with sympathy.
