However, please keep in mind I began my love of hockey playing on the rink in my backyard 60 years ago, until hockey eliminates fighting from the game they will continue to have these type of issues. When fans cheer louder for the fight than the goal scored how can we expect the league to take steps to discipline plays like Benn made the other night. Hard physical hits BELONG in the game but plays like Benn makes with regularity do not. The league has boasted its concussion protocols but does nothing to correct the behavior of those players hitting after whistles, checks from behind, spearing players in the groin (Benn twice) and lastly that a penalty in the second period of an Oct 31st game is still a penalty in the 2nd overtime of game six of any playoff game you will continue to see this nonsense. “Do something before something worse happens.” Steve, I’ve never loved you more than I do right now. The department of player safety ( buttman’s excuse dept) is a freaking JOKE! I’ve read all the books about Montador, Boogaard and the others. This whole “playoff hockey is different” must end NOW! I propose this….if a player is penalized for an intentional infraction that injures another player, the suspension should at least equal the time the injured player is out. Steve Moore/Todd Bertuzzi as an example.

People were tweeting screenshots and screen-captures of times when the boards glitched out or completely hid a play. That’s a double Dang-It at list, but maybe even a Hat Trick of a Dang-IT: one for the stupidity of giving that the award and one for tweeting about it then deleting it, but I kind of feel the whole digital boards fail is a dang-it in itself.

Progressive fines starting at 5% to 20% a players salary and incremental suspensions. Certain offenses should supersecede that rule and go straight to ineligible player for the rest of the season/off-season. Especially if you can clearly see malace and intent to injury a player. I get it. Hockey is a rough sport. It is why I love it. What I don't love is when players can't play anymore because you have actual running around merking players from being able to play for the rest of a series or playoffs.

Here's how you stop behavior like Benn's. When a player enters pro hockey, they have 20 points. For egregious penalties, they (NHL Player Safety) takes points away, one to ten points, depending on the level of the intent to injure. When a player is out of points, they're out of the league. I don't think they care about fines. They do care about their career - more than anything. These kinds of incidents will be almost eliminated. The worst offenders will have short stint in the pros (this should begin when they are in the minors and continue into the NHL).

Question for you Steve: you say to look at the reply to make sure the stick hit the player in the face and not the visor. Does that mean that if it hits the visor, it's not a high stick? Does that mean that if every player were to wear a cage, high stick penalties would be eliminated from the game?
@connorboyle2585
@connorboyle2585 11 ай бұрын
I think he means that if it hit the visor then it'd be a blatant dive. Idk if Steve's arguing that a dive there means no high stick but imo I think in that case it should be a 2 min high stick with a 2 min embellishment penalty, as opposed to a 4 min high stick if it did contact skin and cause that injury.

Judgement calls are a pox on sports. I understand sometimes there's no alternative, but I think as much as possible they should be eliminated in favor of black and white rules. Like for example instead of judgement on goalie interference make it "If an offensive player initiates contact with the goaltender while in the crease it's goalie interference." Straight, to the point, no room for different people to make different interpretations.

I was going to say that it will take someone literally dying for player safety to do their jobs, but then I remembered that the league still doesn't care about CTE or suicide or any of that, so uh clearly it still wouldn't matter

Great job calling out Jamie Benn and the DoPS for being dirty as hell and incompetent as hell, respectively. Still waiting for you to call out the NHL for handing Chicago a generational talent as punishment for enabling and covering up sexual assault, though.

i will say this about the first ot goal that was called back in the carolina florida series and the matthew thachuk final series winning goal, freddie anderson seems to try to sell any possible goalie interference he can, like bro you can 100 percent do a pushoff as one the better lateral movement goalie in the league with a stick between the legs. and having a goalie that tries to sell that will cost you in the playoffs. like the goal called back and the series winning goal he has the same flopping around behavior trying to sell the interference call

if he cant do a push off agaisnt a backwards skating bennett's stick then he needs to gain some leg strength. fr though i having seen a goalie flop around acting like its an interference like that before

The Panthers incredible run starts with your goalie, when the goalie makes saves to start a game, the more saved he makes the more relaxed and confident the team gets, this has gained momentum every game, their playing what I call free hockey, their not tight or afraid to make mistakes, their having fun and their all feeding off this amazing run, it all starts with the goalie, his great play gives him confidence then it effects the players to be more confident, the Panthers have a serious chip on their shoulders and it's infectious, that locker room is smoking hot.

It's my belief that goaltender interference is totally up to someone's discretion and their mood that day. I just don't know who that someone is.

Its 2023, why don't we have a ref off ice with both a live view of the ice AND every camera angle currently recording with the ability to rewind live, just like any youtube broadcast or even modern cable. My father can figure out how to rewind live TV and he bought his first car in the 60s. Add in the ability for that ref to talk to the guys on ice for any missed call or do super fast reviews like that. We have this cool ability for live conversation with people that aren't directly next to each other, and we've even figured out how to put it in to helmets! Hell, if a player goes down and stays down to the point play has to be stopped, that off ice official has the power to say "yeah, he legitimately got hurt by that stick/puck/etc." or "no, he probably is just looking for a whistle, give him a delay of game or embellishment penalty". I'll use the Leafs as an example, they have THREE players with a salary over 10.9 million dollars per year. The NHL is a big business with a LOT of money being made and spent. How much would it be to consolidate all of those feeds and pay one guy to watch them?
