Call centers and canvassing jobs turn n burn 3-5 employees a week. Our weird staff dude was a 20-something that invited us all over one night and literally had swords and shields and made his apartment a low-rate renaissance fair. he asked if we wanted to see his capes and we all laughed at him. He quit a few days later. I didn't know anyone who brushed a doll's hair, but there was a guy who would talk to his daughters on the phone and help them fall asleep while there was a California 7/10 attractive coke fiend kneeled in front of him frustrated she has to wait for this phone call to finish before blowing him for blow. I'm so glad I can talk to my best friend and his sidekick that takes half the revenue

Eh if that's a hobby that makes the renaissance guy happy I'd be a bit more forgiving. One of my previous co workers had his house paid for but his x wife got pounded out by other men in it. Routinely. I'd take an eccentric hobbyist over a legitimate cuck any day. The drug stuff is far more common than you'd think and every job I've ever had there was someone that drove there completely zonked 100% of the time.

4:29 I think about this all the time and it pisses me off, idk exactly what makes Nick want to be interned in a Chinese labor camp but this is what does it for me. I’d rather have to dig for wild roots and tubers to eat in the wilderness and die of parasites at age 40 than learn to use whatever bullshit new social media is going to be out in 5 years

My call center job experience sounds so similar to NIck's. It's a fucked up dance between you and management. They desperate for workers due to the rate of turnover and constant training. You're badly underpaid and overworked. And you find a balance.

I worked at a call center for 4 years, because of it I developed severe anxiety and not from the customers but by the ones in charge and just being complete dicks and clueless at the same time since most don't understand why the calls would last too long since they moved up food chain like withing a week of being on the floor. worst job ever, but it was the only job I could get that paid 11 an hour at the time.

Oh my god, as my parents have gotten older they have somehow lost the ability to properly use a TV remote control despite having used TV remote controls for over 40 years and it drives me nuts. I can totally sympathize with the call center people. Also, listening to Nick describe behavior I consider totally normal as wacky, aberrant, and autistic was a real pick-me-up.

Had a similar call center job. It was alright before the lockdowns, but once I started working from home it became way too gruelling. I didn't get the catharsis of complaining about all the retards who called in anymore. I had to quit. Couldn't hold out until WFH ended.

My best friend who works in a call centre here in india(medical paper work) described it as a tap. Once you login, the water(calls) starts flowing in non-stop and it won't stop ringing till you logout. You need a shot of whiskey every night to flush the days crap out. People who don't talk will not be able to handle this job.

My most memorable moment from working at a call centre was doing network troubleshooting for a guy who, based on the frailty of his voice, was about 117 years old: "Okay, so you should see a small box with lights on the front with the word "netgear" on the side." "[FULL BORE HARD R N-WORD SHOUTED INTO PHONE]?" "no... Netgear." "*[N-WORD SHOUTED INTO PHONE AGAIN BUT LOUDER]??*" "No, net gear. Like internet gear." "Oh. Okay I see it."
