luis22c 💯 agree. I’m fixing to enter my 14 years of active duty service and I was able to attain my associate, bachelor’s, master’s degree and I’m currently working on my doctorate. While also maintaining my job qualifications, serving my community, collateral duties, and most importantly being a husband and a father for two kids. When there’s a will, there’s a way. How bad do you want it?

I got a BA in Psychology using tuition assistance while in the Air Force. I joined the Navy after that and went into high tech electronics and went to two years of Navy A and C schools which translated to an Associates in Electronics from the University of Phoenix. Using the GI Bill, after I was out of the Navy, I got a Masters in Teaching Special Education and while teaching in Chicago, I got a Masters in Liberal Arts from the University of Chicago. I completed a four year course of study at the University of Chicago in their Basic Program of Adult learning. Why did I do all this? The military inspires one to always improve.

Good advice. Get qualified through your senior in-rate equals. Know your job and contribute to your division and department. You doing well helps everyone in your chain of command in addition to yourself. Good bosses want you to succeed, show initiative and drive. Its likely that they won't necessarily gift you anything but they should get out of your way. You probably won't see it but they will probably be opening doors for you.

60% done with the Masters yet the AF is STILL giving me a hard time to commission. Been in almost 7 years now. Heck, even re-enlisted just to apply for the next OTS board doing a job Im honestly not excited about. Got flight hours with deployment money, took a bunch of tests, canceled retraining into an enlisted aircrew position, jumped through many other hoops I can’t think of for years. Yet, here I am doing the saaame job while chipping away through the BS for the end goal. If I could do it over, I would have just gotten out and went through AFROTC with the GI Bill. Even then, there probably would have been other hurdles lol.

Nicky, if you already have your MASTERS DEGREE and the Navy is giving you the run around about getting a commission. You need to apply to all of the other services. It is getting hard to make chief. The Navy is not the only game in town. Continue to try for a Navy commission. It just may be time to let the Navy know the you bring value and that “YOU” have other options. Pfeiffer University just received its first PA class. If you don’t get considered via whatever Navy Medical Program, have you considered going active Naval Reserve duty so that you might be able to attend a special evening PA program? However, you might’ve to pay your own way, right? Now, the upside is that you’ll probably be promoted to OE-2. The Navy really needs and must retain medical professionals. However, if Navy doesn’t do it for you, then you’ve to go ...yup, Army Medical Corps! You’ll be on the pathway of OE-3 in no time and O-4 and possibly O-5 for retirement.

Bang, no more math needed. + as u said Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) auto awards credits for doing Basic Training & Tech Tng credits that start every Airman in an Associates Degree @ CCAF. The majority of senior enlisted and most officers want their people to attend college courses. Some enlisted supervisors resent those whom are bettering themselves. My shop LPO, an AMH-1 gave me a hard time for going to Prince George's Community College at night. My command MCPO moved me to another shop in order to get me away from this clown. This I shall never forget. This E-6's wife told me on the side that he resented me at a unit party.

Nickster, I concur with you that the dice must favorably roll in his favor. If you wanna jumpstart your MS program, request duty assignments at Norfolk or San Diego. Why wait 4-years to secure your GI-Bill? However, it’s possible to accomplish this if you’re highly motivated. You’ve to enroll on campus at ODU, W&M, UCSD, or USD during your time. Be prepared to payout of pocket. Look for scholarships for service members for graduate degree programs. Take grad coursework while on active duty at opportune times. Shore duty is the key term here, but per Navy policy, sea duty is common for first-term enlistees. You should checkout the Navy’s Medical Bureau, NROTC billets, and specialized research programs for assignments. If lucky you might be assigned to a major university where you can embark upon researcher-scientist studies program. By taking courses while on shore duty lessens your MS program if at the same university. Then, take your GI Bill finish your MS & use the remainder towards your PhD. Another out of the way scenario is to go naval reserve status. This isn’t recommended bcuse no full GI Bill. Later, you can submit a OCS or direct commission (DC) packet for the Army, AF or back to the Navy. I recommend you conduct research. You might consider campaigning for an appropriate navy rating where you are immersed in chemical analysis. Why didn’t you consider going Army’s Chemical Corps?

Hey Nicky, are the classes at National hard. Especially seeing there only one month classes. I'm active duty Navy.

Not here if you put the time in. Many of the classes there will follow a format of discussion post done by Wednesday/Thursday, responses by Sunday. The work like papers and exams are typically on Sunday as well. I found myself doing school work twice a week sacrificing a Sunday.

Don’t waste your hard earned TA and personal funds. There are two great programs. If you’re a resident of NYS, tuition at any university or college at State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY). To qualify, you’ve to make less than $125K per year. Also, agree to reside and work in NYS. This program covers both campus and online delivery formats. Next, it’s the NC Promise Tuition Plan at 3 designated UNC-System universities: ECSU, UNCP & WCU. NC residents pay $500 per semester and taking up to 15 credit hours. For nonresidents, tuition is $2500 per semester and the same number of courses. This is especially great if one already has completed at least 7 to 10 courses.

Per navy guidance no. 120 credits total. However TA could change back over time as well. This has changed every couple years it seems

Can’t I just take hella CLEP/DSST tests and straighterline courses then enroll into a college that accepts a lot of credits. I’ve heard people done this method and got their degree in 2 years some possibly did 1 year:
@NICKYMGTV
@NICKYMGTV 3 жыл бұрын
This varies on the school. For example my program i'm applying to does not accept CLEP. Just be aware of your intentions.

NICKY MGTV I heard there’s few universities that accept 90+ credits from CLEP or anything so is that okay? Plus my recruiter emphasized taking some of the tests
@NICKYMGTV
@NICKYMGTV 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you find a school that accepts them good on you. I’m not saying don’t do them, I’m just advising before you put in your free time studying the CLEP study material to ensure the school you want a bachelors from will accept them and give you credit.

What do u think about AMU?
@NICKYMGTV
@NICKYMGTV 3 жыл бұрын
1. They are regionally accredited. 2. 'Military' in the name throws me off as predatory to be honest. 3. If you're transferring you're likely okay just make sure the other school accepts credits. 4. If you are using the degree for commission or government job it likely wont be a major issue, but other places it may. While I do not believe the name of a school is the only determinant of employment. It is also naive to believe it does not have any bearing on employ ability. Also I should note the further away you are from academic years you are less likely to have people value your degree and be more interested in your work experience and skills.
