I did my best to condense down three days of traveling and performing into a seventeen-minute video. We talk about how to fly with a guitar, how to pack, and what it's like traveling with a group of musicians to play in a desolate land. Flying with a guitar and dealing with airlines can be stressful so hopefully this alleviates some of that anxiety. What is the time range for "lights out" (bedtime) on most of these travel gigs, regardless of opening or closing, unless that is a major factor. Thanks.

@@jefffather4663 it's honestly all over the map. I wake up around 5:30 everyday which is unusual but most cats hit the hay by midnight...but like I said it varies quite a bit.

Just found you this morning. As a young guy learned to play rhythm in a church orchestra. Small church. I got hooked by the music. Made myself learn theory and had desires to make a life and living with music. One brain tumor later, Deaf in one ear some paralysis. I love to play just do not possess the faculties necessary to play at that level. Your talent is humbling.

Really appreciate all the positivity you’ve been leaving on the comments. So sorry you have had to deal with that set back. But love that you have stayed positive and still play and enjoy music. I think music is the most special part of life right behind a persons loved ones.

Maybe do a video describing what happens when things might not go as scheduled, since I'm sure you've encountered unexpected situations when playing live. Musicians that don't show up, gear failures, other emotional challenges with difficult people, weather, weird fans, or other spontaneous disasters - and what to do when things don't go as hoped. To me that is real life, and I can imagine that playing LIVE is full of surprises. Great job capturing so many details and letting us be a fly on the wall to see a small glimpse of your life on tour experience with Shenandoah during this gig.

I’m off the road now and doing studio work full time but there were definitely times on the road when things went awry. Usually in Texas lol…always as far away from Nashville as possible. Usually the bus breaking down.

I’ve actually transitioned off the road and resigned from the band. Just doing studio work full time and starting a family myself

Thanks for the great videos! I think you have some of the best Pro-Misician content on YT! I loved Ozzy too. As a former Nashville guy, I was just wondering if you'd do a video on Local 257? The reason I mention this is I remember when I moved to town and at that time the policy was you could "guest" as a sideman on the Opry without joining the union. Then, at that time anyway, you would get a visit from the shop steward. This visit would include something like " we are so glad to have you here in Nashville and we can't wait to have you back on the Opry..." This chat also included directions to the union hall, how much it is going to cost you and the implied pressure one might expext. Just thought it might be an interesting topic for you to cover. I also understand that you might NOT want to cover this as to not step on any toes. No matter the outcome, you've got a new sub and fan in me. P.S., I know Marty and Mike are good guys to work for and I'm sure you're being treated well.

Hey John, thanks so much for sharing and checking the video out. I joined the union when I first got to town for the health insurance and thought it would be a must if I was going to be doing studio work. Great bunch of people at the local here. I might do a short or something on it just because I don’t have enough experience with it other than filling out the card on a session. Thank you again!

I flew out to the Whiskey A Go Go to play a show there last November but I didn't take my guitar because I wasn't sure if the airlines would smash it. I had to use my buddy's piece of crap guitar once I got out there. This video is informative. Going back out there to open up for what is left of White Lion in October. I will take your advice. My Bro in law who played with some bands back in the day, told me to carry my guitar, this one in a hard case, right to the door of the cabin and the flight attendant will take it from you and put it in a closet. I didn't even know they had a closet! I was nervous as if I was carrying contraband! Thought she might turn me around and make me go check it. But, it went off just like he said.

That works probably half of the time and also depends on the airline. I just take a Tele now because they are hard to break.

Ya I didn’t want to pull the camera out going through security haha but you are spot on. It’s a problem. They pulled it out and tested it for explosives. That can be a problem if there is pyro on stage but most TSA if you are flying from a music city like Nashville, Dallas, LA etc…see Pedalboard all day and know the deal. If you fly out of a smaller airport it can throw them for a loop. If you check the pedalboard, TSA will inspect it sometimes.

OK your videos aremaximum intrigue and great to watch. Is it great to actually use the provebial phrase..."I'm with the band." and actually be with the band? "Lobby Call"... Do people ever figure out who you are? Do you ever have tickets you can give out as band members?

Haha right on. Thanks for watching! People do recognize us before a show some of the time but if we go out after a show then usually there is a fair amount of hanging and chatting with fans. I personally never mind and I appreciate them and want to make them happy.

We usually have a certain guest list allowance which varies depending on contract and venue.

The mono bag with a Tele is pretty solid. If it was a Gibson I would check it in a flight case
