As I continued my trip, across West Africa, my next stop after the Republic of Benin was Togo. A quick 24 stop on my trip across 3 West African countries. Togo, a beautiful country, but with a very interesting twist to it. In 24 hours, I would have explored its voodoo market, grand market and the grand cathedral. We stayed the night at Hotel Petit Brussel, which translates to "Small Brussels" in English. Waking up in a hotel by the beach was something I was looking forward to. Exploring Togo, we experienced a huge language barrier as most people speak French being the official language.
This festish market brought chills down my spine. It had all forms of dead animals. Extremely creepy to say the least. Grand Market located in Lowe, the capital of Togo…You can find almost everything in this market.
This market is huge and goes way back. One thing stood out for me, they were speaking Yoruba, which is a language spoken by one of the biggest tribes in Nigeria and the same as one I speak. The Grand Cathedral
Despite the strong practice of voodoo in the country, almost half of the entire population are Christians? Many of whom are Roman Catholic.
Prior to independence, christianity was brought as part of a consequence of colonialism by German colonial authorities. The Grand Cathedral, also known as The Sacred Heart Cathedral, is the mother of the Archdiocese of Lome.
This was an amazing site. We made our way into the church, led by the tour guide. He took us all the way to the top of the church, into the church bell.
The national museum, established in 1975, is located in the heart of Lome, the capital of Togo. It exhibits artifacts dating back thousands of years.
They would not let me film inside but only take a few photos. In the course of my museum tour, that was when i learned more about Togo’s political history. It was one tough one. At this point, a lot of things I had seen made sense. Togo is a beautiful country with amazing people, but being here only for a day, I felt a bit of a tense air to it,
