Acrylic Pouring Painting Abstract Art Ring Pour Night Pour Series
Hello Friends!
We are shooting at night again, fine-tuning our equipment and checking.. so far so good!
I want to do another ring pour tonight
My Colors are:
Colors
Golden's
- Payne's Gray

to thicken paints
I layer my cup carefully down the side, keeping contrast in mind.
I thin out some of my gold to use as a flow extender.
For a 20x20 canvas you need 14.28 ounces of paint, plus a bit to cover the sides. I want to only use 16 ounces in my cup, plus a flow extender, and see if that works better for me than using 21 ounces plus a flow extender.
I pour the ring pour, and its really cool! The Copper next to the Permanent Deep Violet is amazing!
As I tilt it, there is enough paint to cover the canvas, but I noticed my paint was rolling over itself on the edges of the canvas. Either I didn't have enough of a basecoat on the corners or I needed to thin out the flow extender gold even more. Probably both actually..
There are things I really love, but I'm not happy with the composition, and there is not enough paint left to continue to stretch it (remember i used only 16 oz in my cup).
I decided to pour a little more paint in the center and try again.
This time its amazing!! I love this piece!!
So in regards to using less paint, or 'the correct amount' of paint... I didn't like it as much. That extra 5 or 6 ounces in my cup gives me more freedom to decide what I like and what I don't, and be able to change the composition.
I think that formula for finding how much paint you need should be a rough guideline to know how much paint you need bare minimum....But I think adding a few extra ounces is a good idea. Especially if you are using a gallery wrapped canvas.
