I sold two nice rifles so I could get a PVS-14 gen-3 and now I can't remember what rifles I sold. Seeing in the dark is so much neater than having a new gun, it's very under rated. I'm hunting down all the supportive items for my NVGs, I just bought a Steiner DBAL D2. Next I need a bump helmet and a 8-10" 300 blackout upper for a new pistol build and then a can.

When was the last time anyone saw a glazier walking across a field in the middle of the night when you were looking through your thermal scope? Exactly, Glass. the new ultimate camo. Set of windscreen wipers for a windy night. Good to go.

Anyone with a Get Home Bag needs a PVS14 in one of it's pockets. If you have used night vision you know what a game changer it is.

I recently bought a CAT S60 phone for a kind of new gadget. I don't use the phone anymore, but am keeping it for a tool because of it's ability to see the dogs at night if one takes off. Find's them right away, just a few feet away usually. FLIR is amazing.

What if I had a piece of glass that was camouflage walking through a field can they see me with either night vision or thermal
@Vera-xu3xw4 жыл бұрын
The piece of glass would be really obvious to thermal. I have both an Thermal in my opinion is the best for looking for people or animals (if they're there you'll see them. Night vision is better for just moving around but it's really easy to hide from.
@TheRealRenn4 жыл бұрын
Vera 1957 , thermal cannot see through glass.
@MrTmbjr4 жыл бұрын
The movement would still be easy to detect and even though your thermal signature is obscured by the glass, you would still be transferring heat to the glass by holding it, which would be visible
@banjohero83524 жыл бұрын
Renn It cannot see through glass but if someone was holding glass in a field I would see it immediately with my high end thermal scope it would appear as a perfect square gray block in a field because it would have a slight temp difference between the ambient air temp now if I’m scanning really fast I may not notice just depends on the situation.

NVG need at least some sort of light whereas FLIR doesn't. If you are using a IR lite, anyone else with NVG can and will see you broadcasting. Then all you need to do is watch it for a few seconds, observe the sweep of the beam and boom baby, instant target acquisition. Aim for the rotation point of the beam. Same as when using a flashlight on your weapon. Don't aim for the light, aim behind it. For the most part, these are still priced out of the 'every man' range. The optimum is a monocular IR and a scope mounted NVG. IR to acquire, NVG to dispatch.
@evox7865 жыл бұрын
With gen 3 night vision, you're pretty much always going to have enough ambient light outside to run NVGs without supplemental illumination. It's never perfectly dark out. I like to run an IR laser on my weapon with head mounted NVGs. That way you can always have your night vision without having to hold your weapon up and look through the optic.
@flyingviking21495 жыл бұрын
It’s easier to move with NV instead of thermals. IR should be your back up. NV to move and navigate thermal as an extra line of defense.
@jshaw15035 жыл бұрын
Modern tubes don’t need as much light as you think, I’m speaking from experience.... also battery life is a huge factor in relation to nv vs. thermal

Mount a Trijicon A.C.O.G. scope then back it up with a PBS14. The Trijicon acog it in some cases bulletproof. Get one with the fiberoptic feature and it will last forever. Other alternatives are Leopold scopes. They are unbelievably tough. And guaranteed forever. Leopold once replaced a scope for me that was made in 1963.

Are there any thermal or night vision that don't burn through a ton of batteries? Any lithium rechargeable with replaceable packs that last more hours of use? Feel like they all burn through batteries so fast is crazy not to mention expensive. Then rechargeable AA in my experience, which it's been a while, just don't hold up like alkaline. Are there rechargeables that hold up as good as standard batteries these days without going lithium? They can't make a lithium AA or anything because the voltage is double output for a lithium over a AA. Basically you get a AA device it can never be turned lithium really they claim. Anyway, thought I'd ask if there's a resolution for this problem. I've always wanted some night vision and thermal but feel the juice requirements are too excessive for me to afford to feed.

i wanted to know about the longevity of the thermal vs night vision. i understand that night scopes have tubes that burn out. for a $2500 purchase its alot of money. i dont know how long it takes for tubes to burn out and i dont know if thermals have similar things that burn out over time. would like to know more about what makes them work
@fathertimencUSA3 жыл бұрын
As far as I heard thermals are all digital. But it is an electronic camera. As long as the electronics doesn’t fail the thermal will keep working just like a digital night vision. Analog night vision has a intensifier tube the more you use it the more it degrades over time. It also can be damaged by bright light.

Hello, I'm looking for a camera that has a long shutter speed to look at mountainsides for temperature differences. Do you know which one would be best? I suppose it does not need to be a really good one, because it does not have a short shutter speed like the pros use. But likely it needs an adjustable shutter speed and every pixel needs uniform sensitivity. It also probably needs a long focal length or range. Would you be able to point me in the right direction, I'm looking for something less than $300?

I'm no expert but it seems to me that unless your buddy is looking at the target that you referenced from your perspective, the azimuth is going to be different. If he is across from you, you would be off by 180 degrees.

Eric Day what you wanna do is mount ur night vision on your helmet and use a tall mount or a riser for your optic. 1.93 and 2.04 inch mounts are designed for this. Or you could just use a half inch or so riser.

does night vision emit light that can be detected by humans ? i have IR driveway alarm that goes red when it detects and i can see it and know i am passing an IR detector..............
@drakeps3604 жыл бұрын
If you haven't got your answer yet then no, it emits no visible light even with its little ir illuminator light on. now the part you look through can cast light on your face if you dont use the rubber eye cup. Usually that led on sensors is just to let you know it's on and or it could be a cheap/faulty ir led that emits a little visible light... now I'm going to have to go out and look at my driveway light with nightvison in the cold tonight lol

Black IR lights are 'no glow' (940nm, and not visible to the human eye). What you have is probably 'low glow' IR lights that emit at 860nm, faintly visible.. No glow is becoming more and more standard in e.g. wildlife camera's.

Save your money ! Buy ammo and training ! You don’t need it, I was a marine in the early 80s and we rarely used night vision. When we did night patrol we would let our eyes adjust to the dark, about a 1/2 hour. You would be surprised at how much you can see at night! One thing these guys aren’t telling you is that when you wear them , you loose your sense’s and situational awareness.. one more thing , you will not win against our military ! You also need military training to use correctly, not being disrespectful but these guys arent pros and I wouldn’t take their advice on night vision!

Why didn't you give us some real world examples of what these technologies actually look like looking through the lens? 4. The entire video was worthless to someone who didn't really know the difference between the two because of this-a wasted 10:51.

@Aegis Off Grid Living In this case, your video should be all inclusive and should not be dependent on one having to look at all your other videos to get a background on everything. If it IS dependent on looking at your other videos, even you should say so at the beginning of your video, then point out which of your videos should be the most helpful. I like the idea of this video, just not the way it was presented.
