It had to be hard for Ginger and Liza to come on TV on the night that Fred died. They both said the things that people thought about Fred Astaire. He was always charming, graceful and classy. He will always be remembered and no one can take his place.

"His talent is one that's going to live forever and I think the centuries that come on, the youngsters will...look to him for class, style, and charm, 'cause he epitomizes it." "I think they'll look to both of you for that." We certainly do. I think Ginger and Fred would be tickled pink that their magic is still thrilling audiences the better part of a century later.

It was a magi time when the stars aligned with composers, actors, studios to produce excellence: George & Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin. When music was intended to communicate to another person, to move the story along. Performers who honed their craft on the live vaudeville stage. It was a magical time never to be repeated.

It's really nice how long this segment is. Today, it might be a couple minutes at most and then on to something else.

MJ was a huuge fan of Fred Astaire, and Astaire liked Mike a lot. i just realized that number he was doing in the white suit is one of Mike's inspirations for smooth criminal.

I don't know if Fred Astaire made a lot of money like they do today, but you can see that he had a love for what he did.

"Fred Astaire.. an unparalleled lifelong romance, with dance!!" "A dance of life fulfilled.. it is passion & grace, elevated over time & space." "For what is life - unless you break a leg - with impact, with heart, with sway." "An opus on life. Dance it out, to the full." "Astaire.. way to Heaven." "For our time, it is no crime, to dance.. as a gentleman." "And Heaven above - now motions us - in a different way." ~ Paul Jung

@Arthur....Eleanor Powell was a brilliant dancer...However Ginger Rogers was his very best dance partner... simply because of the great chemistry they had together and the magic they created in their ten films. She looked the best with Fred and was a very talented actress as well. I tend to think of Eleanor Powell as a mostly solo tap/athletic type of dancer. Cyd Charrise was beautiful and another wonderful dancer... however there was almost zero chemistry between her and Fred.

Ginger admitted that she had no formal training to dance, however, Eleanor Powell was trained not only in tap, but in ballet, modern and gymnastics.
