Very melodious raga this is, Pandi Debiprasad Chottopadhyay also played a very heart touching Ahiri on sitar, Here pt. Nikhil Banerjee presented a mind blowing Ahiri.

Raag Ahiri is also called as Ahira. It was also frequently played by Late Pt Bhismadev Vedi ( 1901- 1984) and Samvadini Maestro late Pt. Manohar Chimote (1929- 2012). A song of Lata Mangeshkar from film Saraswatichandra is based on raag Ahiri. Nearest raag is Parmeswari.Bhanu Joshi.

Brilliant as Nikhil ALWAYS IS. Great raga. Ahiri is big in the Carnatic tradition. Not so much up north. Baluji Shrivatav plays a great ahiri on dilruba. Check it out.

Ahiri is an ancient and a rare raga and by the combination of Ahiri and Bhairav - Ahir bhairav is composed. But may be Ahiri comes bhairavi thaat, So the uploader has put it as Ahiri bhairavi together. But raag is ahiri itself.

No, the reason could be because he plays Bhairavi separately after Ahiri.

This is raga Ahiri, not Ahir Bhairav or bhairavi. Some people call this Rag

You say this is Ahiri but when teh video starts you say it is Ahir Bhairav -- can you confirm?

Nowhere does it say Ahir Bhairav. It says Ahiri and separately lists Bhairavi as a second item.

Some people call this Ahir Todi but the Todi treatment of sa re ga is not present here, hence Ahiri. Pt Tejendra Majumdar has a recording of Ahiri as well which matches this treatment, which he says he learned from his Guru Baharur Khansahib.
