Nikki Fox, the BBC's disability correspondent, has walked without help for the first time in 10 years, thanks to motorised robotic equipment.
The device, known as an exoskeleton, is strapped to the outside of a person's limbs and can then be controlled by them.
"My legs hadn’t been that straight since 1995," Nikki, who has muscular dystrophy, said. "What was quite unbelievable was how I felt afterwards. Standing for half an hour would usually be quite tough but it wasn’t.
"That evening I stood and stretched on my own for the first time in years."
