Nikola Jokic played nearly perfect basketball in Game 4, manipulating the Minnesota Timberwolves' elite defense like a puppet master as he, Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray secured a huge win for the Denver Nuggets. Here's how Jokic and Denver have pulled off this massive 2-0 comeback against Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and company.

@@nor-in5kj it's how the wolves are constructed that's the problem. It's not a sophisticated offense like the Nuggets. Nuggets at all times have a 2 man game 2 shooters and someone in the dunker position. It's always pick your poison. Overcommit to Jokic, he'll pass it to a perimeter shooter, handoff to Murray or dish it to Gordon. Jump at the fake pass from Jokic and he'll hit you with an automatic floater or baby hook. Absolutely surgical.

On top of that, they played much better defense overall in games 3 and 4 as well. And they're running the floor. And Murray isn't carrying the ball to start the offense all the time. Their adjustments have been fantastic

just imagine if jokic had the physical and genetic gifts of a lebron james of the speed and quickness of a shaq. with his skills and intelligence/“basketball iq”, he would be unstoppable. His skills are so incredible if he had the athletic gifts he would be the greatest player of all time in 5 years no question whatsoever. But he may still be able to do that but it’s not likely. Not with Wemby coming along and 110% becoming exactly what i just described. If he can get real strong and get there fast.

@@nor-in5kjthat's 1 thing bothering me about MJ's greatness. People seem to ignore that both Larry and Magic had to retire early. And Larry's back was messed up a couple of years before he retired. Magic Johnson for example was only 32 when he retired. You mean to tell me Magic couldn't have got another one. It's Magic Johnson and the Lakers. I am pretty sure he could have brought some legit player to the Lakers to play with him.

I watched all the teams play in the last couple of days... nobody is even close to denver when it comes to offense, they are all playing individual basketball and a lot of isolation, pick and roll is the peak of their offensive strategy... but in the end, it comes down to sinking a shot over a defender who is at best not glued to you... denver creates the most open shots out of all teams by far (not a stat, got that feeling from watching the games) and that is why they got it this season as well, no problem, minnesota was their biggest hurdle and they are about to overcome it, I think minnesota is the 2nd best team in the nba right now. boston is not winning a series against any western team that's for sure.....

Great analysis. Now that I see everything in slow motion, I see what a defense it is. They stick to Jokic, there are two of them, they are as big as mountains, but oh my god, he manages to get past and is so dominant, it's just to enjoy. There aren't many players in the NBA who could have done that. But to do it consistently then, Jokic is very unique. Jokic is a giant mountain himself and to move other mountains you have to be bigger.

Don't act like this offense doesn't have a chance against the Bulls. Jokic is smart enough to recognize that Rodman can slow or even clamp him down in the post. They're definitely gonna be more active and do the pick and roll which is just hard to guard because of how well the Nuggets work together. Again, not saying they beat the Bulls (like come on Michael Jordan is in that team), I'm simply saying this offense can hold up against even physical defenses like the Bulls.

Funny because the T-Wolves allowed 104 pts per game for the season and the Nuggets allowed 103.8. I kind of winder how they calculate the best defensive team because there are 6 other teams that allowed less points per game than Minnesota. Orlando allowed 8 less points per game with 95.86, which was best in the NBA. How a team that allows 8 more points a game, which is 656 MORE total points allowed over an 82 game season is considered "better" defensively, baffles me.

The Wolves D was better without him in game 2 and he's a liability on offense, especially at the FT line. I know Wemby is a stick, but I wonder if he would bother Jokic more. In games 1 and 2 the Nuggets looked like they didn't want to be there. And to top it off in game 2 they played like clowns. Got slapped, and fot awake.

Love the analyses so since I am not capable of doing better (or as well), I will just correct a couple of facts... Joker is not nearly the best shooter-he is not the best in % from anywhere, nor of course total volume-or any combination of the two. He is also not the strongest player even currently-people underestimate his strength due to his relatively skinny arms & softish body. But someone like Zion Williamson is 5" shorter & the same weight without being fatter & clearly has more muscle. Jokic is quite strong, but it is an overstatement to say the strongest-you can name some who are stronger & have more muscle too... This is not to dis him: he is my very favorite NBA player, AND the best player in the world every season for the last 4 years! He is da-best due to doing most everything well, despite limited speed & the lowest draft combine vertical leap in NBA history. And the most genius B-Ball mapping & passing. But to say he is the best at strength or shooting, (when Curry is the GOAT in 3 pointers AND foul shots despite being small, & many score more often...) Is needless hyperbole.

You argument for him not being the strongest player is that he's the same weight as zion despite having less muscle, when neither weighing more nor having more muscle equal to being stronger. Jokic can back down anyone in the league with ease including zion which makes him one of the strongest if not the strongest as no one is able to stop him from getting close to the paint with a couple of shoulder bumps and hand swipes. He also never said that Jokic is the best shooter he said that he has the best paint touch in the league, which is true, and that he's the best post scorer and offensive player which is also true.

@@EthanIzeta I will need to listen again, IF he said those things about shooting he & you are right! Since offense involves much more than shooting..., & he *may* be best in the paint/w/touch-the latter I know he said... He does not back down everyone w/"ease", & I do not even know if he is better than say Embiid in this. However, backing someone down is in some part WEIGHT & using leverage. And just the latter can be decisive: nobody would argue that Ali was as strong as Foreman-but in Zaire he was better than him grappling in the inside because he was a better/wiser user of position. The main thing that is associated, I mean directly causes, not just correlated, with strength is cross-sectional size of muscle. Sometimes advantages in levers/proportions can make someone w/less bulk stronger-but in particular muscle groups only, AND it needs to be in the ballpark in terms of muscle. I would bet my life/wife (which I do not have, lol!), that in the weight room, w/the best measures of overall & compound muscle strength, there are a bunch stronger. Let alone in isolation movements-he has relatively small arms. ALSO Joker has very good endurance & cannot jump over a (choose metaphor here) due to almost certainly having a high proportion of SLOW twitch muscle fibers. Even though his butt/legs cannot be weak-he cannot explode vertically effectively even FOR his weight! Worst ever NBA combine vertical leap! 😏 The opposite of say Shaq who had the vertical leap/what he reached record before-even though even as a "skinny" rookie he was heavier. Fast twitch is absolutely needed to be near #1 in a league w/athletic freaks. Although YES he is strong-& stronger than he looks!
