The Nikon D500 is a great camera for all types of photography, like Astro, Landscape and what it’s famous for Wildlife. But the D500 is also very good at capturing video and this Video Setup Guide will help photographers using the Nikon D500 to capture the best video on their camera.
I explain how and why I’ve setup my D500 to capture video in this fashion which helps me get the most colourful and dynamic range from its 20MP sensor.

Thank you for this interesting topic. I have the Nikon D7500, and all that you said applies to my video experience with that DSLR. I must say, if you carefully meter and focus before filming, the 4K on the D7500 (I am assuming it is the same as the D500) is really, really good. I am a hobbyist who films my kids, pets and family events, so for more static scenes and some B-roll, I find the Nikon to be really good, ie situations where the time to meter and focus is not pressured. To catch my pets and kids in action is an exercise in frustration, the focus just can not keep up, and manual focus can be tricky. Conversely, for photos using the excellent phase detect system with 8 fps, I rarely miss an action photo with the D7500!

I had the D7500 before selling it and buying the D500 and you get less cropping at 4k on the D7500 than the D500, but I like the colours for video on the Nikon's

Once again, interesting, to say the least. You said in the video that the D500 does not autofocus in video mode. Do you know if the Z mount cameras will autofocus using the FTZ adapter with F mount lenses. When called upon, I do technical/engineering photography. Video might help. Thanks again.

I would recommend the ARTCISE AS80C and a good pan and tilt tripod head

Have you tried Digital VR? D500 has it. (I´ve taken very very very few videos with this camera. And not even one on 4K yet. :) But I know it has electronic VR.

Yes! By default Digital VR is turned on, and I accidently skipped it as it was on by default. But I've tried using the D500 with Digital VR On and with it Off and didn't find any real difference

I have Nikon d7100 and i am thinking to changing to d500 . Will I notice a big change in the quality of the photos and the higher usability of the iso ? Is such a change worth it in Your opinion?

The only reason to change from the D7100 to the D500 is if you want to shoot wildlife, especially birds in flight at 10fps. The auto-focus is much quicker as well, but that only helps if you need to tack a subject that's moving very quickly. I had the D7100 years ago and it was a great camera and even taking photos of the Milky Way at night I could use ISO6400. Hi friends all over the world. Could you help me on this, please? I am watching a video file from my D500 on Nikon´s NX Studio and I had curiosity to know ALL settings, including AUDIO. I can´t find any inofmration about AUDIO on the EXIF data. Thank you very much!

Audio is not recorded in the exif data, the exif data only records the primary settings used by the camera

@@rmgwheelsspokeslab.7767 I have jut double checked to make sure and looking at the Info panel in NX Studio is the size of the video "for example 1080p" and the quaility of the video.
